Markham Park Mountain Bike Trails - Sunrise, Florida

- On a trip down to Florida in January, I decided to fly the mountain bike south to check out what the Sunshine State's mountain bike trails are all about. I was able to squeeze in two days of riding while we were there. First day of riding consisted of Balm Boyette and Alafia River State Park. The second day we drove east across Florida to Sunrise, just outside Fort Lauderdale to ride Markham Park. We rented a Scott Spark for my girlfriend and we rode right from Alex's Bicycle Pro Shop. Markham Park exceeded my expectations and was packed full of so much variety. This place contains a skills park, jump line, dirt jumps, asphalt pump track, and all around great trails. Favorite trails include Area 51, Gun Range, and Yo Mamma. Even without mountains, the trail builders make excellent use of the terrain. There is plenty of features inside this tropical landscape to keep riders of all experience levels, from beginner to advanced, coming back for more. Both she and I had an awesome time. It was the best of both worlds enjoying beautiful trails with the girlfriend while having a blast riding every feature I could find. I like to do a little research before I ride somewhere new to help make the most of my ride, and I hope my videos can help others do the same. Really enjoyed riding in Florida and would love to do it again soon. Like, comment, subscribe if you enjoy this content. More importantly enjoy the ride!

I've lived 15 minutes away from Markham for several years but this week I finally bought a mountain bike! I'll let you know what hospital room they put me in.
Something for everyone there! Enjoy your new bike!

hears gun shots riding through the woods *vietnam flashbacks starts kicking in* 😳🤯🤣
I started pedaling faster!
Where's that alafaya trail you mentioned ?
Alafia is a state park in Lithia, Florida with some awesome riding!
And gators lol
See many hard tails here or is a full suspension necessary?
I would say that a hardtail would be fine here or really anywhere in Florida. I personally prefer a full suspension for the drops and technical bits, though I have ridden my hardtail at chunkier places than this.
@@keystonemtb9925 Thanks for taking the time to reply. I have a Surly Krampus with a suspension fork on the front. I love the bike and am hoping it would get the job done down there. I bought a place in Venice and see some really fun looking stuff in Carlton Mabry Reserve, but imagine it would be fun to check out some of the other stuff around the state. I imagine the majority of my riding would be double track and single track stuff and me just randomly putting around. Glad to know that a full suspension won't be absolutely necessary.
@@jakenoack6702 my buddy has a Surly Krampus and he rides that thing on all kinds of terrain. Great bike!
@@keystonemtb9925 Sweet. Sounds like I better keep the Krampus in my fleet. Can't wait to check out all the cool riding Florida has to offer. Really itching to do the Florida Coast to Coast Trail.
Alafia is certainly quieter!
Hearing all the guns go off helps keep us riders sharp!
I ride to markham every day Just to ride it's so close to my house
You chose a good spot to live, these are some of my favorite FL trails!
“A 70 year old man died here… that’s sick!!!”
That is what I was told!
while laughing* “broke his fricken neck and died, that’s insane”
Almost unbelievable, but sh*t happens! Goes to show that we all need to ride safe and respect the trails.
DUDE I WANTED TO GO HERE FOR MY BIRTHDAY NOW MY MOM WONT LET ME DUDE WHY WHIULD YOU SAY SOMEONE DIED ON IT!!!!!!!
That's the story I was told! Hope you are able to ride here!
How much was to rent a bike ?
They had different prices for different builds. I believe we paid somewhere between $60 and $90. Have fun!
@@keystonemtb9925 thanks also if you can answer this , It is true you have to sing a waiver or watch a video to ride on this trail?
@@gipsyduran19 nope just go ride!
@@keystonemtb9925 thanks for being si helpful!
busted my ass here today
Ill be ridding these for my first time soon, and i guarantee you that i will buat my ass as well... 😅
why tf does south florida have better trails than south caolina? where theres natural hills.... I rode markham for years and just moved to SC, it frankly dissapointing. Looking forward to micng back to SF!!!
