Ink Island, here's what happened. There was a writer's conference in 1817, just after the Year Without a Summer. All the best writers were there. There was Jane Austin, Lord Byron, the Bronte sisters, George Elliot and many more. They were all plugging along, working on their novels and poetry and having a great time. Then Mary Shelly showed up and they all gave up. They threw their quill pens, manuscripts, clay pipes, wine bottles and inkwells in the river and went home. To this day, we still don't know what they were working on.
"save the worm" got a warm smile from me, i always feel like you can trust a person who doesn't want to hurt anything no matter how small it is. I have never actually seen a ragworm before, only the marks on sand where they hang out, very interesting! Aside from that, very interesting vid, i am glad you didn't pass up the chance to dig at the Victorian fly tip, nice find.
I just love the variety of activities in your videos, as well as the fun of seeing you and your friends out enjoying a great trip! The estuary is a really interesting place…you just never know what will be revealed.
We are enjoying each video you put out. The mateship between you & treasures you find, the trash to art is a joy to watch. Good to see the progress of the beetle 🪲 as well.
The serpent pipe is a very cool find. Love that green glass bottle with the crest, good luck with the gold leaf application, if it adheres to the glass it will look fabulous. Ink Island looks like a fertile place for very interesting finds, I hope the HHH team returns for another go.
When we were young we were chuffed to find empty Clarks lemonade bottles because you could return them to a shop and get 5p for them. At that time you could buy a lot of Blackjack or Fruit Salad chews for that ! Loved that serpent pipe and the ' matador ' lid.
Beautiful collection of finds from Ink Island this time around. My favourite is the half lid with the man on it. Love your cut down bottle collection - you do such a good job with them! Thanks Si, Steve and Jules.
A suggestion, for the bottles that are too damaged to cut down the normal way how about cutting them lengthways creating a dish shape that can be used for storing poket ephemera, jewellery or as a desk tidy. As ever I love your videos thank you so much for sharing x
Ps. Thinking of bottles that have writing you would like to highlight there is a product called buff it (other similar products exist) which is a wax that will give a faux guided look.
Nothing better than H3. Y'all Rock. What a great episode & fascinating to see how fast the tide come in. Epic. Great finds, friends, & fun. Long live H3!
If you find an old bed spring they are thicker and may balance well, great idea just a thought. Thanks for posting I am a quadriplegic and used to take my kids tip larking in a dump and lake edge us. Totally amazing, be safe!
I gotta get me one of those bubble green blown torpedo bottles one day........ NOT CAST FROM CHINA WHERE THE GREEN GLASS IS SO CLEAN YOU CAN SEE THE STARS THROUGH THEM!!! AT NIGHT!
Nice pipes and with long stems. The serpent/fish one was great. Lots of great finds today, the lid with the Celtic design and the half lid with the matador. That green bottle with the crest is beautiful.
Man oh man! What a great outing, lads! Some spectacular finds. That illegal dump was in your favour. I would have thought you’d have brought that slab of marble home. That would have done nicely in one of your creations, Si. That lovely translucent ink and bottle were just gorgeous! Will they stay those pearly, bright colours? That worm thing looked of another world! YUK! And the weather!!!! October and 30C! We really do have proof of global warming! See you next time guys…..Thanks for sharing. 🦘❤️
Thanks Yvonne, not all my videos are filmed this week... I save some months ago... sometime I might go out three times in a week, then save them for when I can't go out. : ) Glad you enjoyed it though : )
Good morning Simon, just bought the London 1808 amber seltzer beaker can’t wait to get it !!!! Thanks for another great adventure today from Stockbridge Michigan USA.... ❤️🍺🍻🍀👍
A little cozy with the three of you on that hovercraft, especially with Jules rooting around in your hole like that 😂 Nice finds on the island 🏝️👍 The picture arrived unscathed and is hanging in my man cave. 😁
Morning Si, I enjoy watching you finding all the fantastic old things! There's even lots of things I've seen with my auntie Elsie as we walked the Thames foreshore!! That was in the early 60's!!! I'm wishing you safe hunting and the best of luck!!!! Always Lesley, originally from Brandon, Suffolk!!
A pitch folk would come in handy on Ink Island. Too large to carry, I suppose but something similar and small enough to carry would help in the loosing up the mud and muck. Great haul, guys. Fun day! ☺️
so much mud, looks like it is ash your digging through too - and I love how they are all watching you dig Simon ha ha - look forward to seeing your videos every week and Steve /Jules love the Hovercraft too
Lovely to see you out on the hovercrafts again . Great finds , love the pipes , so detailed. Just the same years ago as it is today people dumping their rubbish where they shouldn't !! except that yesteryears 's finds are worth having aren't they ? !!
I luv the bit at the beginning- 2 mudlovers skipping hand in hand across the beach-- the ink bottle with cork is lovely , its iridescence stunning!! watching you 2 dig on that island makes me green with envy-- considering what treasures are hidden in that glop!! Thanks for taking us along- the schlurp schlurp of your wellies in the mud is so satisfying!! at 24:00 out comes that beautiful blue chemists bottle-- OOOHHH!! here in Montana a girl has to go to an antique store to buy bottles.. as yet she hasn't come across one that lovely or old! =)
When you first stopped at ink Island, I thought they'll never find anything there!! HUH, you proved me wrong. There was so much good stuff there. It's funny though once you get past the muck how tough it is to shovel that other stuff it was incredible. I love those torpedo bottles that are so cool!! Great video!!🌊🪨
That was an epic mudventure!! 😂 Lots of great finds, plus the discovery of an new landmass! 😆 Ink Island is now the de facto destination for mudlarks and treasure hunters. 😆😆 Jules did a terrific impression of an Irish washer woman. 🤣 The comedy was low-brow but very enjoyable. 😆 The round-up was very good, as was the impromptu torpedo bottle stand. 😍😍 Finishing off with the update on Steve's Beetle restoration was definitely icing on the cake. I can't wait for the next HHH video. Take care and stay safe, everyone. Bye for now from Canada. 😍
YESSSSSSS! Heehee I thought you had forgotten the blue bottle ...but you turned it and said the contents were holding it together? On the edge of my seat Ta.
Not seen the entire video yet. Just found yall. I am in love with the smoking pipes. I would never find any here in the southern U.S. I have found arrowheads though.
The Codd Hamilton hybrid might have been worthy of a repair, very rare bottle, it could have had a donor neck off a Codd bottle put on it, they were made for a very short period, company's changing over from Hamilton's to Codd's couldn't do it all in one go without disturbing production, their storage system being designed for Hamilton's.
Maybe dig with your hands or a synthetic hand trowel to protect your finds once among the more intact ones, down below? I loved your finds! Great site! The iridescence was wonderful!
Great hoverlarking finds! Loved the serpent pipe and the other pipes as well! So many great inkwells. A good result from poking around in Simon's hole! Lol😄😄
What wonderful finds Si some things I probably would not of seen if it wasn’t for people like you thank you guys for sharing love it sending love and prayers always, please keep safe xx❤️🙏🏻🇬🇧
