Si thanks for teaching this old woman (73) so many interesting things from your country..I loved watching you for a few years already and there's always an interesting treasure found by you ! I'll never get to do what you do , so thanks from me personally ! Hugs from Florida , USA
I am a 72 year old woman and love to watch too. I would love to mudlark that beach. I would make pendents out of some of those interesting pottery pieces and collect pottery shards to make mosaics out of ❤❤❤
@Sifinds it's J750 not 1750. They've changed our timeline... anything that has a J or an I in front of it was changed to a number 1. Something I came across a while ago.
The white translucent glass …..was a sort of glass called Opaline …..used about until the last century for toilet little bottles or elegant table services bottles for Salt and other things …..this glass was produced putting precious substances in melting the liquid glass…..so the bottles and the boxes used for cosmetics and tables services were quite expensive ……I have got a service salt and pepper like that at home …
I was depressed to find that You Tube had decided to drop several of my favourite channels in favour of stuff that didn't rock my world, so now both Nic and you, for starters, have got a new subscriber, which means that I can now comment rather than just mumbling at my tablet! So, I think that lemonade bottle scoop is great, very clever, well done! (Sorry Si, that's the elderly lady teacher part of me, having her say,)
It's probably a shard of opalescent glass from an old dish from back in the day. Great finds from both you guys. you can also put that gold leaf on/ around your broken pieces of pottery and make those into jewelry as well. Even a tiny thin line on some of the raised pieces of pottery to make it stand out more. Those coins are amazing and in amazing condition. I love all of your up cycling you are amazing. I also love love love your fur babies.
it's amazing Si, that between you, Nicolla and all your mudlarking friends, have not already found ALL the pipes that were dropped in/around the Thames yet..
Red was so happy to get the seeds out of the brilliant new exquisite shovel you made. Great equipment for a handyman. Lovely finds, liked the Georg II coin. Great video again Si! Cheers!
Excellent lark! Sean's area of the Thames seems like the path least taken & full of finds. Love the upcycle & perfect for the chicks. Thanks for the kitty cameos. Love seeing those two. All of the finds were over the top .... Well Done!
Hello Si, The deep hole in the handle is where the tang from the implement was inserted in order to secure the working part of the tool to the handle hence the long gap in the wood.
Just found your channel and liked it lots. That " chisel" handle, did it not have a ferrule at both ends? It reminded me of the galvanised bucket my grandmother had back in the 1950s pre plastic handles. Just a thought 🤔
im surprised to hear to that they will actually give back a find after being recorded rather than just sitting in a museum’s storage room for no one to see again
Gad I like your friends. Serious luck in the muck today, and the up-cycle is lovely. Thanks for taking us along, and for spending all the time involved with filming and editing the video.
I love going with you “mudlarking” and the explanations of the items you find. But I also like your inventions- the old handle decorated with gold leaf. I am a very senior citizen Si and your expeditions are wonderful, so thank you.
I just enjoy so much watching you find all these treasures! As a bottle collector here in Hawaii, we find all kinds of treasures from the past in the muck! Thank you, Si!
Its absolutely amazing to me seeing the age of artifacts you find. Being from NY in a house i consider old "180 yrs" When you talk about the age of your finds it blows my mind
What a variety of super awesome finds! That coin is in amazing condition. Doesn't really look like it's spent a couple of the hundred years in the Thames. That twice struck coin is very unique, whether a real mistake or a forgery, very cool. Your remakes of old things are very creative. I thought the pendant was a stylized letter 'g', until you turned in sideways and showed the keyhole 😂. You certainly had luck in the much on this outing.
That Georgian farthing must have been lost not long after going into circulation to be as crisp as it is. Really neat to find a coin like that. Finding 19:10 that dropped musket ball and the flint earlier makes me think that the flint was worked. To me it looked like a shaped flint for use on a flintlock musket. They tend to be squared off and thicker on one end.
So Si, I was wondering when you register something with the Museum of London and they give it back to you, do you have to make sure it’s available in case they should want to see it again or use it in a display in the museum? I live in the USA so I’ve wondered how that all works. Thanks so much for your videos! All of you mudlarks are so much fun to watch and to get to see your historical finds!
Excellent video! Lots of good finds in this one; I'm also a flint-knapper, and I've been eyeing all the beautiful flint calkins that show up on the Foreshore for years of videos-- I'd give a lot to have some to work on my own (I mostly do obsidian and glass, but I do work at flint sometimes.) That bizarre coin with the multiple strikes was my favorite item from todays haul; can't wait to hear what the Museum of London has to say about it. Lastly, your scoop... The kintsugi idea was inspired; and if you ever have a burglar try to break in, you've got one hell of a self-defense weapon there!
Si - You keep surprising me! I did not know you did wood work too! I had two older brothers who both made wooden things with lathes and their hands - also a BIL who made mini birdhouses on his lathes and wooden toys and tops - you made me think of them today - I have their work sitting in vignettes throughout my home and I miss this very much. Your creative mind and fearless dives in the muck are inspiring - thank you!
Oh my days! You have a tool for every craft/DIY going......boys and their toys! Talking about boys, your video this week really brought out your cheeky side, loved it. The finds are brilliant those Georgian coins and the old pottery/stoneware are fantastic. Keep up the grand work xx
Hi Si I think the pendant thing at about 1 minute in the video is part of a keyhole plate from an old piece of furniture a dresser, cupbord or some thing like that.
Absolutely a very fine pipe, one of the best I've seen si finds, the broken pottery I'd love to turn into jewelry si, great vlog as always. Stay safe & lucky. Peace
Great video Si, Sean's bead with a hole one end could be a pearl, they were often half drilled to be stuck to a post. Love the coins today, amazing age! Great upcycling too!!
I loved your golden joinery idea! Just as a possible idea, and given how much you had already done to restore that piece, you might consider using a non-solvent based stain in future, instead of an oil because the oil may slowly soften and effect the glue ‘s bond.
There are so many beautiful pottery shards there! I wish we had a place like that around my home. Your finds are very fun today, and it was great to see Sean (sp?) As always, thanks so much for taking us along, Si!
The trading bead, although beautiful, made me quite sad as a part of the dealings with trading in humans. The tales these foreshores can tell through all your hard work. Thanks Si.
Just realized that I never left a comment after I watched. Silly dog insisted he needed to go right then and when I came back in, I completely forgot! Speaking of beautiful creatures, it was lovely to see Daisy and Nelly, the prettiest two cats I know of. This was a thoroughly enjoyable video! Sean always makes me smile and you always seem really relaxed when with him. It gives the videos a sort of holiday feel! 😂 You had some interesting finds - especially those two coins! - but the tokens and pipes were nice and I always love the pottery and china bits. The large pieces of the tankard were beautiful and so close to fitting together! Thanks for showing us two upcycles this time! That pendant is so sweet and delicate. And Red's new feed scoop was a labor of love! She seemed to appreciate it, I think. Till we see you next!
Woodturning is another fascinating craft I love to watch! Your channel never disappoints! MC are my husbands and my initials: I loved that find. Your George II was so lovely and pristine. Fun day with Simon and Sean: thanks for taking us along! ❤
@@Sifinds Yes, by a mile! Brilliant in every way! Best thing you’ve produced in ages! (That’s meant as a compliment not a criticism 🫠😂) I’ll stop talking now.
At 1:44 I think it is ⅔ of an escutcheon for a lock front from a small box, the one side looks like it was broken off, that was not a hanger, just a curlicue. Hold it horizontal with the curl on the right side,
Aww Si, you were a proper 90s boy with that hairstyle. A staple of nearly every lad in my year lol. Love to see people using kintsugi, the scoop was a great craft. Really original
Some great finds again and love the idea of the broken bottle and old handle, which I think was once a joiners chisel handle, deep drilled to accomodate the Tang (Spike) with the metal anti splitting ring on the bottom, and turned at the top to accomodate the striking ring which would probably been copper or brass.
Si, I really like the large horse head. Wonderful clay pipes today. I always enjoy your videos when you film with this friend of yours. He's such a nice and fun man. 🌻🐕🐶🥰🇺🇸
@@Sifinds thank you. I guess I need to watch them all again. Have a blessed day and thank you again for sharing with us all of your beautiful and interest finds.

Hello Simon, I wanted you to know I received my Mud life Crisis T-Shirt and it is wonderful 🥳🥳 I am very excited to get to wear it! Thank you very much I couldn’t believe it was such quick delivery 😊 I loved this video, you found some amazing old pieces this day. Glad to see Sean with you, he also found amazing pieces. That scoop you made with the old wooden handle and old stoneware was unbelievable 😮you have such a great artistic mind. Love it! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💜
the wooden handle you found looks like the handle to a file or chisel, the tang can be 5-6 inches long and there would have been a brass ring on the outside to strengthen the joint, you can still get them today, and its common to only have 1 or 2 handles for several tools, you knock it off to store.
This looks like so much fun. I can’t believe I lived in London for so long and never knew this was possible. I’d have waited in queue for years to have a go!
rhode island reds, great egg layers. it has been 60 years since i had chickens. my job was to gather the eggs every morning. two broken pieces make something useful.
Loved watching…very clever in your creative ways to use the finds….thank you so much for an entertaining morning…between you and Nicola I get my mud larking fix as it were….thanks so much….greetings from Wendy in AZ, USA
My son and I went mudlarking for the first time today. What an amazing day we had! We found pipes, potery, and much to my sons horror lots of bones! Turns out probly mutton and bison, but should of seen his face when I said it could be washed up plague skeletons lol This is certainly something we shall do more off. Great video, cheers
That’s so interesting that the pipe goes from black to white!!! If you wanted to know if it is the UV light that’s doing it, maybe you could try putting one under a UV nail lamp 🤷🏼♀️
Is great to be able to watch your videos, really informative and like the links to the cleaned materials and the ideas of things you are thinking of making. I'd been thinking about applying for a permit from the LPA for a few yrs and never got around to it as is not got around to planning the visit to central London, and then they changed the rules last yr🙈! So I'm going to have to wait until they decide to issue permits again and not prevaricate next time! Until then I'm getting my full of the mudlarking adventures by watching the various you tube channels from those who have permits - so thank you :)
For the upcycling part, the handle would have fitted around the rod, so it did not break through the handle under pressure. Maybe there was a brass or iron band or cap over the top end of vye handle too. Love to see a lathe at work. And chickens 🐔😳.

your many pipe strems that are shorter ... you could string as beed curtain .. I bet it would make a lovely sound in the breeze ...
Your scoop is a beautiful creation that would be a joy to use. When the ordinary becomes extraordinary.
Thanks so much👍🏻🐾🧡
That largest horses head would make an outstanding pendant. Maybe Wendy could cast it in silver!
Good idea!
You’re a right bodger Si, nice work on the scoop! Can’t wait to see more of it. Another great video, thank you Sir!
A bodger is someone who just smashes sh*T together lol. Thanks haha
I love watching you up cycling, repairing and or creating treasures.
Cheers Eileen👍🏻🐾🧡
Loved that. Especially with the chickens at the end!!!!!!!
I watched this and found myself transported to my young life playing on the banks of the river Tyne thanks mate, I have subscribed and hit the bell
Si, your are a very creative artist. I enjoy all the finds you turn into art.
I love watching you create! Your videos are so much fun Simon.
Cheers Lilybee👍🏻🐾🧡
For the upcycling part, the handle would have fitted around the rod, so it did not break through the handle under pressure. Maybe there was a brass or iron band or cap over the top end of vye handle too. Love to see a lathe at work. And chickens 🐔😳.
