    Now this is the revolution I was waiting for. No more bent or torn off derailleurs, no more chain and cassette cleaning after a muddy ride, no more chain lubing and fussing over drivetrain service and finally possibility to shift under load with a gearbox. We need this on all ebikes, it's high time to say goodbye cassette!

      Yes its fantastic , i have a recumbent trike with a super long ,ugly ,ugly ,ugly chain and gear system , this would instantly transform it into something so much more user friendly .
      If this came as an assembly that needed a tailor made frame …… i would happily alter the frame to accomodate it.
      Again …. I want one !

      That is why this ebike motor is a paradigm shift in ebike evolution.
      It completely changes the trajectory of ebike design and philosophy.
      But the most important is the technology that it opened.
      Now, Bosch, Shimano, Yamaha, Brose, TQ, and the other top ebike motor makers could not simply ignore this marvel of ebike motor technology.

    This is some awesome tech, game changing even!
    I'd like to comment specifically on the belt: I have a Pinion Gearbox on my hardtail MTB with a Gates Carbon belt. I also have a single speed MTB with a Gates belt, and they have both been great. The belts last about 3 times as long as a chain. They are built to automotive standards. However, the fibers are arranged to be strong lengthwise, not necessarily widthwise. So when handling the belts, you need to be somewhat careful with them. Folding them, prying them into place, twisting them while in place, or banging them into rocks can potentially damage or weaken them.
    Also, in dryer climates they do start to squeak a bit and need to be sprayed with silicone lubricant after about every 50 miles or so. Pouring water on it stops it for a few miles, but the silicone spray really helps. You do not need to clean the belt before spraying it, a dusting of material along with the spray seems to be helpful out here in the desert. Take care of your belt and it will take care of you!

      I remember seeing the first E-Bike and then the little motors that people started getting for their bikes... etc... I recalled seeing a small motor on like a 12 speed back in the late 70s... early 80 - 81.. But this is So impressive... I mean its Actually about time... ive bn waiting 10+ years for a true Boom in Tech that I kinda gave up waiting... This is So Awesome... This is what they have Started doing with Motorcycles a year or so ago A company did a model of their Motorcycles then Yamaha just put in for their own pattern in this kind of gearbox.. So we are all going to see some major improvements in so many areas of life. Just Imagine a gear box like this in every vehicle eventually. Many wouldn't that be Awesome , Especially if they are built like this. Great Video Bud.. Thanks... P.S. Subbed

I NEVER have to look at the chain to see if it needs maintenance. It's such a relief that every ride, I can just finger check tire pressure and brake sensitivity and go. This system will be even better when I'm a bit older and possibly in need of battery/motor assist. Only negative is that tensioner hanging underneath, looks like it may be prone to rock strikes (a DW high pivot design could fix this and make the rear sus even better) . Awesome! Thank you you Pinion, thank you Rob. It’s been overdue about 30 years. Now, next step, add regenerative braking, maybe some sort of clutch engagement on the rear hub when the brakes are activated to spin the motor via the belt to recharge the battery. (Even if it added a pound or Kg. Then… perfect!👌😉

    • @BrennanLetkeman
      @BrennanLetkeman 11 місяців тому

      unfortunately, you can't regen motors with the belt tensioned by jockey wheels like that, since you'd need the belt tension to flip sides when braking (pedalling pulls along the top of the chain, but braking is reverse, so bottom pulls). maybe if it was more like a single speed bike frame, tensioned by the whole rear axle screwing in and out...

    • @streddaz
      @streddaz 11 місяців тому +1

      @@BrennanLetkeman correct! Also because of the small amount of weight of a bicycle the amount of regen you get is minimal due to drive losses and with current technology not worth the added complexity and weight.

    Hey Rob rides emtb! I love the coming gearbox revolution because of almost all the benefits the pinion rep pitched. I hope there will be a chain version of this or a belt that has some sort of mud clearance holes. Belts don't work on off road motorcycles because the belts heat up from flexing and mud dries and packs into the holes the sprocket teeth engage into. Chains are self clearing. You must love that discreet control pod! Ride ride ride!

I know this is a mountain bike, but still amazed that mirror is not included, as for me is number 1 safety add on, better than a helmet for keeping you safe. While I'm dreaming, wouldn't mind wider hubs with bigger bearings, wider hubs also make it easier to replace spokes (don't care about slightly more weight). To save weight, make it stiffer and allow easier replacement of belt, make it single arms instead of forks.
