My goodness, Helen Joyce is certainly well-informed on this topic and surrounding issues. I'm in awe of her capacity to go straight to the heart of things. She is on the ball.
Really shows how out of touch the BBC have been. The national broadcaster has failed so badly.

Wow what a patronising tone from the interviewer. But great points well made as ever from Helen, who showed up his complete lack of knowledge and the fact he had not even looked Helen up prior to the interview. So lame! Getting paid to interview people and not bothering to even google them? 🤦🏼♀️

The interviewer is doggedly unshakeable in his belief that there are no inappropriate materials being taught to under 9yr olds.

What a shame the interviewer was so poorly informed.
I might be biased because I adore Helen, but she was outstanding here. He was rude from the start and kept interruping her and really not listening. But every time he threw a curve ball at her (or he thought he did), she gave him a clear, solid and logical argument. All this while being really charming and finding common ground (praising his comment on teaching children good values). By the end I think he couldn't ignore it as much anymore. Perhaps he might even think about what she said afterwards. It is great to finally see some semblance of real debate on this "no debate" issue.
He cares about people’s “lived experiences”, unless they are parents talking about their experiences with inappropriate material being taught to their kids in school huh 🤔 He was scoffing and instantly took the stance that it wasn’t really happening when Helen gave him examples.
Interesting who gets believed. When it aligns with his politics, he can believe the person’s lived experience and gets angry when he thinks it is being challenged. When it seems to him to go against his politics, he scoffs and downplays the account of the person.
Helen Joyce, once again, concisely, eloquently and gently nudges another BBC employee out of their lazy complacent slumber. I really hope reason is on the way to defeating gender identity theory but fear there is a long way to go and lots of kids still need protection from the ideologues.
To think that the BBC used to be the gold standard for ethics and impartiality. How far it has fallen.

It sounds like the guy has warmed to you a bit towards the end . . . as if he went into this interview with with no knowledge of you apart from malicious lies told about you and instead started to notice you sound pretty reasonable and disapprove of the same things he as a parent doesn't want his own children exposed to. Good job, Helen, keeping your cool and hopefully providing this individual an opportunity to re-think his assumptions.

This guy has the demeanour of a random man who has just been dragged in off the street, rather than a professional broadcaster.
I'd say you have a 20% chance of picking someone that cantankerous at random of the street.

This an is the worst interviewer I've ever heard.
Well it was certainly rude and incompetent and stupid but he could have been worse. She pretty much got to say her piece and he hadn't done enough research to slander her. He seemed to hope he could pick a fight over Andrew Tate or claim she had no real world experience but when all those things failed he was only a bit grumpy.

The interviewer was so poorly informed. I found his interview style incredibly unhelpful, listening to Helen, who is very knowledgeable, would have been a much better approach for him & his listeners.
If an interviewer is going to speak to Helen Joyce they had better do some preparation beforehand.
He didn't realise who he was talking too, thought he could do a quick hatchet job, but rolled it back when he realised Helen could have intellectually eviscerated him 😂

8mins in and despite delighting in Helen's demolishing of this guy's ego, I have heard enough.
I hesitated to leave a comment for fear of encouraging this unfortunate beknighted man.
The interviewer got off on a bad footing, not even knowing the name of Sex Matters and what its mission is, and it put him in an ill temper that everything started with him looking uninformed and needing to be corrected. Toward the end, he seemed finally to realize that he is out of her league, and he stopped being tetchy and trying to trip her up - maybe he realized he was embarrassing himself.

Yeah, maybe I'm being more forgiving of him to say that, I think he realised too late that he might have had a really enjoyable conversation with her, had he not been a knobhead from the get go!
My take away is that Eddie Nestor is a total prat. Sorry not sorry.
Unfortunately, this is where we are in 2024. In America we have few safeguards. Schools are often captured and controlling of oversight. Helen Joyce is on point. We should have stats on the status of all of the issues in this new movement.
This man is incredibly rude, uninformed and also disingenuous: "This is not happening- oh, it is?- then it must be great because it's done by teachers". Helen has the patience of a saint.
Tells you ALL you need to know LIVED EXPERIENCE when you hear this it is a means of denying someone who facts you.

The reason why we should question "lived experience" is so we don't end up ignorant, arrogant, and deluded like the interviewer.
What kind of parents does this guy know? My kids aren't out of my company until they are able to speak to me and toilet on their own. As soon as they are aware they have private parts we use correct language for them and start an age appropriate mantra about how no one touches anyone else's private parts and how to tell mum or dad about anyone who does. How to keep your own privacy and how to respect other's privacy.

That sounds like identity politics to me. We should listen to women and men who are right and ignore those who are wrong. Nicola Sturgeon has no special right to be listened to over Andrew Doyle to take an absurd example.
