Man, it would be so convenient if Picard had a member of his crew who could tell when people were lying!
She was on leave on earth looking for a chocolate cake. A real one.
@@darkcoeficient I think I recall Geordi's visor giving him the ability to detect lies, and maybe Data can as well. Picard isn't very good at utilizing his crew's talents
@@dmd8552 let's face it: the crew sucks.
Riker? Guy is always posturing with his leg up or something or sitting down weird. He only rose thru the ranks because of good looks.
Geordi? Guy is a creep. Has programs running of female Starfleet personel cooking him pasta and some kinky creep stuff, tried to blame it on Broccoli.
Worf? Dude gets beat up like every other mission. Cannot separate personal matters from work either. Had his parents visiting during busy times, played hanky panky with an ambassador, killed a dude he held a grudge on while on duty. Worf's a hot mess.
Data? Don't get me started on Data? Dude is always about to blow up the ship, getting himself hacked, asking fellow officers if they knew he was fully functional in 10 Forward. I think Picard only likes him because they both like detective holonovels or some other crap.
Diana? Her mom meddles in her work, it's useless as a telepath and gives the worse advice ever. And is a damn subordinate dressing as she pleases.
Wesley? Wesley should have been lauched off the ship from the torpedo bay. Kid has the gall to set foot on the bridge.... Who does he think he is? Some sort of magical alien? Some mystical luminous being? Has an ego worse than Q's. Typical male raised on a single-mother household.
But who can blame Wesley? Dr. Crusher is a mental patient. She claimed she was having sex with a ghost. A freaking space ghost! And then claimed the same ghost was shagging her gran gran? She should be interned.
Yeah, Picard is a horrible leader. Has the worst takes, picks the worse people for his crew. I even think he fakes being French. He is a starship captain but I heard even his civilian brother gave him a beating, AND THE GUY MAKES WINE!!!! No military career to speak of.
No wonder O'Brien transferred to the middle of nowhere. But even he wasn't spared from the crew of the Enterprise. Has wimp Worf move with him and he married Keiko. An engineer marrying a useless botanist? And she like the worst partner ever. NILES! NILES! NILES! Good grief.
XD
@@dmd8552 only in humans was that reliable. Aliens gave him problems because they could react differently. Makes one wonder how he ever lost on poker night to anyone other then data or potentially worf.
@@darkcoeficient I rarely am actually laughing out loud at internet comments but your Crew Analysis did it, especially the logical conclusion that Geordi framed Barclay for all the holodeck perversion. Everyone knows how sticky LaForge always left Holodeck III when he went there to conduct "Warp Field Research" with that Leah Brahms simulacra. And he knew Barclay was too much of an anxious awkward goof to defend himself. What a scumbag.
I love the look Gowron shoots Duras when he finds out he’s a traitor. Priceless.
When Gowron gets quiet, you know you’re in deep shit.
When Robert O’Reilly read for that part the first time, his was a lot quieter. There were a few people competing for the part of Gowron, so the second time he read for the part, he went over the top, and did the crazy eyes thing Gowron is known for. Jonathan Frakes was sitting in on the audition, and noticed it immediately. He asked to see it again, and the casting people liked it. It got O’Reilly the part.
Gowron's "What?" is so good. It was a flood of realizing how real shit had just gotten. Romulan detonator, he knows he didn't do it, so that means that Duras is in bed with the Romulans and trying to lead the Empire. The Entire game changed in an instant. Robert O'Reilly is an ace.
Exactly. And when Duras says that "I will return to my ship to confirm these conclusions myself", Gowron's face not only says "as will I"...but also "and I already know that it was YOU, Duras!"
One ace in a deck made entirely of aces.
@@benvolio15 Back when Gowron wasn't a complete asshole
@@andreabindolini7452 I especially liked him in the DS9-episode "House of Quark", when he was busy with normal domestic politics and not war! And I found it interesting that he showed Quark respect, too bad that they were never shown again together!
Someone as treacherous as that could fake his reactions...
Picard was tactically brilliant in getting both Duras and Gowron emotionally off-balance by springing Worf on them. The lack of immediate reaction from Duras about the Romulan detonator showed that he already knew about it.
Perhaps he didn't realize the significance of the detonator until Picard pointed it out. He's easily the least clever klingon in that room.
@@poisonhemlock or perhaps he did which was why he tried to cover it up saying the findings were inconclusive.
@@Zoras88 exactly and that glare from Golron-“as will I..” yikes if looks could slay..
That is why Picard is the best captain.
Gowron's response to the comment of the type of detonator showed how quick he is about making links; at that point he knew immediately that not only did Duras plant the bomb, but he was in league with the Romulans. His grinning response goading Duras in earlier meetings was now replaced with nothing but a look of utter contempt. It's a shame they made Duras into a raging moron by the end of his stint on DS9 pushing fruitless suicide attacks because it seemed completely out of character.
Worf: What did your investigations reveal about the explosion?
Duras: It was a bomb!
Worf: No $#!t
Well, it could just have been a power surge in an input console. 😆
...
No, wait, I did not see a pile of rocks flying about.
They REALLY wrote K'Ehleyr out of the show WAY too soon.
She has so much to offer the ongoing narrative.
Would have loved to see her and Worf as a couple raising their son. Worf on leave taking Alexander to Disneyland. Her and Alexander coming to visit Worf etc.
I thought is was poetic and beautiful me and family always cry
Suzie Plakson did an excellent job!! I too wish that they had kept her...**sigh**...
And they usually had her wearing some form fitting Klingon outfit where her otherworldly strut was shown off splendidly.
I've honestly wondered for over 2 decades what a Klingon vag looks like. If it had ridges. Was it a warrior vag with dangers. I concluded a Klingon penis was likely jagged and aggressive, but the vagina..
God, I love Worf’s sneer at Gowron. “And was your analysis just as…insightful??”
Gowron: "It was. Cheeky."
3:27.....I love the little move by Picard here. Turning Duras's refusal against him. "Fine, you don't want to proceed, then I shall take your refusal as a withdrawal from the ja'Chuq and Gowron can have the leadership!" haha, played Duras like a fiddle.
TBH, Klingons weren't known for their diplomatic prowess or subtlety. Had it been the Romulans, there would have been a LOT more subtlety and tact.
This is the Worf equivalent of Riker and Picard's "You enjoyed that." "You're damn right I did."
“Was your analysis just as…insightful?!” Wow even a a batleth doesn’t cut as sharp as Worf
To be fair, they could be assumed to be withholding detailed findings out of security concerns.
4:27 That single tear of righteous anger threatening to leap from Worf's eye.
I just saw that. I imagine it was likely something makeup related , but it certainly adds to the scene, even if I think ST has been a bit hit or miss regarding whether klingons can cry.
lol if you watch Michael Dorn in a convention video, he is like a normal dude, he dresses like a college professor and he's not intimidating at all. But if he goes into Worf mode you totally see him as Worf even without the makup and facial ridges lol
A lucky camera angle, but it really added to the scene, didn’t it?
An alternative explanation could be that it was a tear of laughter leftover from the previous take, but the makeup theory seems equally possible. Dorn seemed to be the castmember most likely to flub a line or break during scenes, which would sometimes send the entire studio crew into fits of laughter.
He’s fighting the urge to just destroy everyone but Picard in that room at the same time.
I remember watching this episode as a kid, and my mom, who wasnt at all into Star Trek says "every man needs a K'Ehleyr". One of the truest statements I've ever heard, minus the showing up with a mans grown child.
1:20 I love Picard there. Total badass diplomat.
And it was amazingly shrewd and decent how that introduced Worf's element of honor and leadership potential into the ceremony. It was a supercharged embarrassment to have their sloppy investigative work pointed out by a discommendated klingon. Almost like an unspoken: _'May I introduce to you what a true klingon looks like? ... Get used to it. You will meet him again.'_
I love how, at 0:24, Riker spoke about a "new" alliance between Klingon and Romulans, acknowledging the fact that they have already been allied once, and precisely at the time of the "Enterprise incident" episode in TOS (when Romulans suddenly used of D-7 class Klingon ships). This is good continuity.
The "75 years since..." line also fits in well with the original cast movies era.
Worf goes on to kill both of them in the end.
Worf is the true Kingmaker of the Klingon Empire!
@@davidf2676 while i love Worf, i think he is too sincere and honest to be a good politician. The empire is still incredibly corrupt, they need a sly mofo with a plan, not an honourable warrior.
Gowron, best expressions in Star Trek, all while under heavy makeup and prosthetics. Man can act with his eyes.
When I was a kid, I loved the spaceship fighting. When I grew up, I ended up loving the interspecies politics.
"It must be Duras."
"Why?"
"He is the son of a traitor, a romulan sympathizer _and_ an honorless petaQ. Need I say more?"
That sums it up.
This K'hobidah should have been fed to the dogs💯
Keylar: "Can you me more specific?"
Picard: "No."
Keylar: "............."
I LOVE that look she gave. (WTF? Did he just DARE to 'shut me down'?!? Where did THAT come from?)
Actually gave me a LOL-
Her look is priceless.
Keylar is like; fucking menz FFS
@@neliusbresnan3766 It has nothing to do with "fucking menz" unless you're a simpleton. It's about understanding her (middly) place in the hierarchy and accepting that sometimes superiors withhold things from inferiors for good reasons.
@@pwnmeisterage She's *supposed* to be senior diplomat. You don't withhold from them. You inform them heavily and expect them to lie appropriately. That's what diplomats do. You don't leave them flapping in the breeze with partial information. That's make them look like morons. Which makes your government lol like a moron.
That stare at 4:29. Wasn't the old Gow'ron crazy eyes share. It was that icy, cold, frightening, steely & deliberate look. Even from that look from Robert O'Reily. Somebody would have to peel me off from the ceiling.
if eyes could kill, Duras would burst into flames after that glare :D
What I love here is Gowron.
"It's was a common explosive."
"As will I."
He is the first to cooperate and he immediately became suspicious of Duras cause he knows the corruption of the council
He knew SOME of the corruption, later when Worf asks him to return his family honor, Gowron is shocked to find out that the council was in on the plot to frame Worf's father. Especially when he needed their support to assume leadership.
One thing I can't get out of my head every time I watch this episode is that a series dedicated to the Klingons would be AWESOME.
Even more bloodlust and backstabbing than an episode of the Kardashians. And probably more good manners, style and grace too. 😂
They gave us Discovery lol. /s
You spelled Cardassians wrong.
@@Gashahn24 lol. Nope, Kardashians. A play on words and reference to a certain overrated family who are famous for being on a crappy reality TV show.
Having seen the first half of the first Season of Discovery... I'd have to disagree.
I doubt that "traditional" Klingons will be made again, and the Discovery version... Eww!
@@davidsloat1016 it is a series about the next gen Klingons that I had in mind. If that was done it would be a winner I think.
She makes a fine Klingon and a fine Q!
She also makes damned good Vulcan doctor.
Omg I didn't know that was lady q
She also makes a damn good andorian.
She just makes a fine anything and everything!
I wish they did not kill her off. They could have had a great storyline. She,also made a a great vulcan and andorian
She was both Worf's woman and Q's... and she was also the Vulcan Dr Selar
Khelayr was an awesome character.
2:07 What a stunning shot of the Enterprise
4:28 Gowron: "Well, I know it wasn't me, you dishonourable petaQ"
Suzie Plakson oozed charisma and what a terrific actress.
The look Gawron gave Duras as the end promised death, he suspected.
Awesome how Picard ask Duras if he wants to withdraw from the change of power.
Behold, Gowron of the Crazy Eyes!
Gowron’s eyes. Their piercing intensity is amazingly beautiful….
1:38 This is how girls play detective when they think their man is cheating
Facts
Omg LMAO dude im a women and ur so right!!!!
Listening to the Klingons move around, is like listening to the LEATHERMAN Sketch from SNL
One of my favorite Worf lines: "Fortunately our investigation was MORE THOROUGH!"
Michael Dorn, Patrick Stewart looking firm, and the camera movement are all perfect.
Eventually, Worf would kill both of these men in cold blood.
"As will I." 😳
Gowron is just awesome! That actor!
Thanks so much for these brother. It had been decades.
"Can you be more specific?"
"it was in the shape of a bean!"
Always satisfying when a member of the house of Duras is put in a corner.
K'Ehleyr is pretty damn hot.
She also plays another character on the show....pointy ears blue suit....maybe the episode with datas "father".....? Watch how she stands its a dead give away....also the credits lol
She is also the female Q on Voyager.
"What ARE you doing with that dog? And I don't mean the puppy."
@@celamantia thank u for the info👍
"My presence will be disruptive!"
"Bitch I'm counting on it!"
Picard is not rude idiot
Duras: "It was a bomb!"
Worf: "inspector morse ova here"
That look on Gowron's face at 4:30 is him realizing Duras is in cahoots with the Romulans
Seeing this again years later you pick up on a lot of details they gave Gowron. He was unhappy with how the rite of succession was conducted but still respected it and the other traditions such as the pain sticks.
4:30 His EYES. That STARE. If looks could kill, he'd be the deadliest Klingon.
This was brilliant acting when you understand things between Worf and Duras. Worf was practically about to cry at 4:26.
Worf is like partial Federation soldier mixed in with part Federation police investigator. Worf will rise in rank and go places along with his pals Data, Riker, La Forge.
Micheal Dorn was trying for years to get a new Trek series going that would have featured Worf as Captian of his own Starship. To bad it never came to fruition.
@@keithallver2450 Dorn was trying to get a promotion for his character and his bank account. Garrett Wang as Ensign Harry Kim was stuck in Ensign rank for years on ST Voyager. He's not doing much now except conventions, fan made Star Trek productions, interviews, etc. Wang's character and his bank account didn't get too many promotions.
That Gowron glare is epic!!!!
This episode is perhaps only second to "The Best of Both Worlds" in terms of impact on the balance of power in the quadrant.
Can you be more specific? No.
Suzie's face was perfect! Miss plaxton was perfect for the role. It sucks sucks sucks sucks they killed her off
Gowron is so polite. He's not upset that Duras tried to bomb him. Only two things upset him about it. Frst, when Duras accused him of doing it, he lashes out, hence Gowron's anger is at the dishonesty involved. Second, Gowron gets very quiet and deadly upon hearing about the detonator. Again, his problem isn't the bomb _per se_, but rather that Duras would consort with Romulans. Separately, although he's definitely upset about Worf being in the room, he settles and sits down quickly and answers Worf's questions politely. Early Gowron is a gentleman.
0:52 - I love this exchange. K'Ehleyr has no idea, but as soon as Captain Picard says that they've dealt with Duras before, you see her gears immediately start turning.
God, this is excellent acting. When Gowron realizes what the hell is going on, how nervous Suras looks and his inability to throw everything off the trail. The look between them when crazy eyes there now realizes the other is legit a traitor, starts to question everything involving worf and the council? Absolutely top tier
Duras always looks like he has no clue what is going on. Mouth always agape and thousand eyed stare
"Can you be more specific?"
"...No."
0:59 started the train of thought that got Kh'eylar killed. I genuinely liked her character though
She’s did the 24th century equivalent of Facebook stalking.
It amazes me the klingons ever advanced into space , so friggin backwards.
The only person more Klingon than a Klingon? Picard.
"It must be Duras!"
"Why?"
"Be- because he's a meanie."
Because he's a meanie beanie
Worf caught himself before giving up the beans.
"Can you be more specific?"
"No."
😂
Angry tear in the wharfs eye, nice touch.
3:04 Duras poker face is like my dog just before he is going to throw up.
And we’re your findings equally insightful??
It was a common explosive.
Duras is such a *weasel*. Even Gowron at his worst was never that petulant and whiny.
Outstanding channel! Please keep up the great work, and thank you!!
"It was a bomb." Such slimy behavior.
At 2:08 I thought "now that's the only way the Enterprise should go down in flames when fighting Klingons"
True True. But all three of those ships aren't gonna make it to the end.
"I will not sit at the same table with *THAT!"*
*Ahem* Once again, Troi shows just how "valuable" she is to the Enterprise, i.e. where is SHE at during all of this...scarfing down chocolate cake ???
Maybe inappropriate for this ceremony to have a 'spy mind' like that.
Then again, if they have something to hide, that would be dishonorable, so they should have no objections.
Still, though, it might be ceremonial protocol - only those who are necessary. (Worf's appearance was, of course, a calculated disturbance.)
All that being said, Troi could perfectly have sensed them from afar and consulted Picard about it during recess.
Also note that, since the High Council has the full record from _Enterprise,_ they knew that Duras was behind the cowardly assassination, the bombing, and the murder... and they still largely chose to back his illegitimate son Toral over Gowron.
Ezri was right, Q'onos was _hopelessly_ corrupt.
1:24 This reminds me of a bit from "The Thin Man"
Tommy: I'm getting out of here.
Nick Charles: No, you stay here.
Tommy: If I stay, I know I'm gonna take a poke at him!
Nick Charles: Then I INSIST you stay!
I’m convinced my ex is related to the house of Duras.
"Yes it will."
Yes,it will.
how you knew Gowron was really the best for the empire in this scene was his reactions of absolute anger in the what :D
I love how gowron over dramatizes everything
She did not play Klingon, she did not play Human, he played exactly half-human, half-klingon!
What an actress!
Notice that, during the briefing, Worf couldn't resist accusing Duras of the crime, forgetting that he had no proof _other than his prior incident with Duras on Q'onos._ A prior incident that happens to be top secret to prevent a Klingon civil war. Had he remained silent, K'ehleyr would not have been murdered by Duras.
Gowron reminds me of Rutger Hauer. He's seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Not having Troi in there was a major oversight.
I know Marina Sirtis voiced Demona from the Gargoyles series. But the actress playing K'heylr sounds like Demona
Tactical brilliance for Picard to bring worf in with what they knew and what was being said.
1:16 This bit reminds me of "Shadow of the Thin Man".
What kind of trouble are you expecting, Nick?
I don't know. But I'm gonna do my level best to stir it up!
Don't play poker with Jon Luc. Don't play chess with Data. Don't try to hand to hand combat with Worf.
Glad they are in the future. I feel safer here and now.
You are an enemy of Starfleet?
@@Dowlphin no. I love trek. Just no good at poker, chess, or hand to hand.
@@mikedickison244 You said their presence in our time would make you feel unsafe, i.e. totally neglecting their character and only focusing on their abilities directed against you.
Worf is always ready for battle or should I say kick some ass...
He's ready to kick ass, and eat gagh, and he's fresh out of gagh.
I love the way Klingons behave. Both bold and funny. I'm no 2Gen'er[I'm a TOS] but I almost feel like Worf stole that show.
"It MUST be Duras!"
"Why???"
"Beans..."
Every single episode in the entire Star Trek genre contains absolute sh** for security.
This show needs to return….
From where to where?
The next Dog I get I plan to train it to accept commands in Klingon!.... Just like I did with the Cat.
If you've got a cat that accepts commands then you are a Jedi. So I'm really confused that you would chose Klingon. Just sayin'.
@@daviddewey2107
Yes my cat does know a few commands. It's not as easy as teaching a dog but I got it done. As far as Klingon, I did that because I'm a nerd at heart and my buddy passed away who put me on 2 Star Trek, left me his TNG stuff. A book translating the Klingon language was 1 of those items so that's mainly why I did it.
Lmao a cat that takes orders ...... I doubt that
A Klingon is a wonderful tool to manipulate for your own devices, but when they find out you manipulated them. I wouldn't want to be in the same Galaxy.
We all know Duras has connections with the Romulans, but Gowron's reactions very much prove he had nothing to do with the explosion, even without knowing that factor.
Isn't this one of those rare times that Troi would be helpful?
I find it amazing that ship's security is so lax. Why no escorts for the Klingons that are in opposition to one another....and oh yeah....why tf, doesn't the Ambassador have guards?
3:04 that's the look that says oh shit
2265 and they still shop at Office Depot for chairs.
Lt Worf is the most Klingon of all Klingons.
Respect for how chill Gowron is with the rites Picard insists upon. No bravado or demands. Picard just says “lemme think about this,” and he nods and rolls with it.
I know Duras is in bed with the Romulans here, and anybody would look good next to him, but Gowron comes across as pretty reasonable, all told.
The fact that Gowron seems so decent here then turns into such a corrupt a*****e by the end of the Dominion War is one of the major character inconsistencies in the Star Trek universe.
@@condorboss3339 Not really. We know that Gowron is more of a politician than a warrior. That's established in this episode, too, when he tries to quid-pro-quo K'heylar, and it's reinforced throughout the series. His concern about the clone Kahless comes from a political perspective, and in season five, we get glimpses of him controlling the narrative of his rise to power.
That these traits would only worsen as he consolidated his power only stands to reason.
Wirf The will be insenced my presence will be disrupted
Picard: yes it will. Translation I'm counting on it
Duras looks like the Al Bundy of Klingons at 2:34.
