The overarching strategy of Japan was to build a network of colonies (the "East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere") to get access to oil, which the United States refused to sell after Japan's bloody conquest of eastern China and its massacre in Nanjing. To get to the oil, they would have either conquer the Philippines or fight their way through Indochina to get to Malaysia. The Philippines were American possessions and stood between the Japanese Empire and Malaysia. Japan would need to take the Philippines, which would bring the Americans down on them as effectively as an attack on Hawaii. A large portion of the Pacific Fleet was in Hawaii, so crippling them would keep them from supporting the Japanese conquest of the Philippines. So if the Philippines were to be taken, Pearl Harbor had to be destroyed. (Instead, it was bombed hard enough to enrage the Americans, but Japan did not send the third wave of bombers that would have finished it off.) The better plan would have been for Japan to stop at Manchuria, which abounded in iron, coal and arable land. Korea, Manchuria, Taiwan and the Eight Islands themselves would have made for a strong empire that could simply purchase the oil it needed from the USSR, Indonesia (the Dutch East Indies) and the USA.
The problem was the aggressive military caste, hyper obsessed with conquest, to justify their same esistence, plus a racist ideology, in a certain way worst than the western ones' , so the outcome was inevitabile
i doubt that, japan was basically isolated afer german capitulation, maybe they win in china, but god knows what would have happened next, i hardly see an three sided cold war here
Very interesting. I liked the part where Japan got Madagascar as a colony, it's so out there that its entertaining but still plausible if negotiations went the right way. Great Work as always, my friend.

This map shows a very interesting fact that ultimately decided the Japanese hegemony in the East Asian sphere: The Russian Empire ceded Northern Sakhalin to Japan. The area was full of oil reserves, so Imperial Japan never had to eye up down South East Asian in search of it. Thus, not having to provoke Western powers for the Navy plan. Although I would need answers from the video a bit, is how the Empire's South East Asian colonies (thoses ceded by Britain and France) gained there independence, as not enough info really talked into the matter. Anw, great video about the alternative histroy of Japan
Bogd Khanate of Mongolia is still alive, it keeps Tuva and gets Inner Mongolia? That's a really nice story! Oh yes, but the Japanese part is great too No DPRK, no atomic bombs...
Next: Show down between the socialist north and the nationalist south Aftermath: A third party natsoc rebellion broke out and united china, under national socialism (nothing can ever go wrong lmao)

I personally think that if Japan wasn't attacking the Hawaii islands they would have a big empire today
