It goes through one’s mind why couples sometimes vacation separate from each other but you girls are such a great example of trust and freedom and love within a relationship. It’s so important to sometimes have our own experiences, to maintain close friendships and have healthy fun adventures with other people in our lives. It’s also so healthy to have some autonomy and spend time just with ourselves. My husband I have separate guys and girl trips a couple times a year and some people find it so strange, but we find it so rewarding. You ladies have such a rare and beautiful connection and we love celebrating that with you ❤️

Here I am with some skillsaw safety tips (60 years worth). You are making beautiful progress and I would like to continue seeing that without any accidents. Any time you decide to use the skillsaw, set the depth of cut properly. Only the minimum depth should be used that will complete your cut. There are a few good reasons for that. First and formost is your safety. Use the skillsaw long enough and you will cut yourself. The less blade the is through the cut the smaller the cut to your finger will be. Secondly the blade guard will retract in a more cooperative manner with a minimum cut depth. Lastly is blade life. The cooler the blade runs the longer it will last. With a minimum depth of cut you also get a maximum of cooling. Good luck, keep up the good works and don't stop the beautiful videos.

You got a lot accomplished alone, really nice to see the wood stoves installed. I was thinking when you were talking about the barrel over flowing and moving it into the trees. Why not just get a spigot and put it into the barrel about 4"-6" down from the top of the barrel and attach a drain hose to it and run that hose into the trees. That way it will not over fill and you do not need to plumb new lines back to sink and eves out to barrel.

My wife and I have a standard 3 bedroom 2 bath home with an oil furnace but we have a wood stove insert in the downstairs fireplace, and wood heat is like no other. Once the entire chimney stack is warm it warms the whole house. It dries everything out, and just feels so cozy. We also find the fireplace very handy when the power goes out. We do have a small generator that we use to run the blower. I watch every Sunday and am constantly amazed what you have accomplished in only a year!

Hi. me as a guy from Norway and that you have bought a Jøtul oven from Norway.. So I am reasonably sure that it should be fired in the following way.. Put some larger logs in the oven first, cross once more with slightly thinner logs. Fire up on top of this with thin dry wood.. It will burn longer, and you will save wood:) It is probably in the user manual. Good luck with a really good oven in the winter cold.

Instead of moving the rain barrel, how about drilling a hole, about 3/4 inch, and put a pipe plastic pipe thread to garden hose adapter on it, hook on a piece of hose, and it will drain away from the building. Mine strains the needles out when it flows over. Periodically in the winter, I have to take it off, give it a shake as the needles plug it a little, and that clears it right out. Really impressed with the work you both have done there. Sure a lot of growth in confidence from when you did your first van build.

Jasmin put the sheet of ply on from the side then the trestles will not fall over!! When you use a tin of food, save it, split it down and use it to cover the boxing for the water casing for the garage to keep the water out of the flat top. Put some good sized timber on those tarps before the wind gets under them and blows them away, those staples will not hold the tarp alone.
Top up the wood box as the first job of the day when your fresh.

Re your outhouse rain barrel… we connect our overflow hose to a second barrel, that way we always have water even in drought. That said, depending on temperature, not sure I’d call my hands “clean” if the temps have been in the 30’s, unless the water has been treated with an antibacterial product.

You could add an overflow outlet near the top of outhouse rain barrel and run the outlet hose into the woods. No more overflow into the pit and it’s way easier than extending gutters and relocating the barrel. You could also shorten the drain pipe from the sink for removing the bucket without spillage. Just my thoughts.

Don't move the rain barrel into the bush. Just drill a garden hose adapter into the top inch and put a hose on it. You did great on your own!

I agree. Install an overflow outlet at the top of the barrel and plumb that out to the woods. A whole lot less work.

Jazz, when you get some snow, start piling it up around the gap under your house. Even just creating the wind break will help, but you will probably have enough to build the wall up around the house.

Just a suggestion... as a temp. fix for this winter... "skirt" the cabin with some bales of old hay. It will insulate a little but mostly it will block that pesky wind.
Come spring you can use it for garden mulch.

so you may need fire starters i make them from egg cartons saw dust and wax 1. put saw dust into egg carton 2.melt wax pour into egg carton and put more saw dust on top let wax cure up. you can make a few layers. when dry break off one or two eggs and places in fireplace lay kindling on top and light starters up. you can also mix saw dust with lint or dog hair . i use dryer lint and saw dust. they work great. i make a bunch up for camping.

Jaz, I resonate so much with your aura, presence, and being. I love Crys to death and she reminds me of my partner, but I just wanted you to know how touching and life-giving it is to watch you be unapologetically you. Being myself and feeling life I have to be a different version of myself based on my current surroundings is something I've always struggled with. It is absolutely beautiful to watch you just be you and complete things solo because your process is just 110% Jaz. Thank you 💚

Love the channel thank you both! Suggestion for your water butt, instead of moving the butt and extending the gutter it may be simpler to set an overflow pipe into the butt at the high water level and let the water flow down a short length of hose pipe into the woods.

Safety tip... sorry if you have already done this but...I saw that you built a box around the propane tank/tanks. Please check with the gasfitter at your supplier to make sure of adequate clearance for prv and that you have enough venting at bottom of box for any leakage.

We had a Jotul wood stove growing up in rural Iowa. It had a Norwegian inscription on it that translated (loosely) to: "I built me a flame late one night. When day is done, God will my flame never die out." That, and another woodstove in the basement was all we used. Nothing compares to wood heat. Enjoy!!

Instead of moving the rain barrel and eves downspouts … consider an overflow… tap in a new hose before the barrel overflows and have it drain out in the woods away from the outhouse 🥰 happy to see you guys have wood stoves just in time for winter and you are all together again to enjoy it ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Hammer tacker. Lol! Regarding the rain water barrel at the out house... you can leave the barrel beside the building just need to add a hose near the top of the barrel and let it run into the woods. This way if the water gets to close to the top of the barrel the excess will run into the woods. Otherwise. Great job! Doing all that work with no pants on.... well... I'm glad you posted! LOL!

With the wood burning stove in the house ensure that you have at least one working carbon monoxide detector. Carbon monoxide is order less and tasteless so you want to make sure if you have a carbon monoxide leak you can detect it. High enough concentration is fatal you just go to sleep and never wake up again. The detector should be installed low to the floor as carbon monoxide is denser then air and therefore will concentrate high enough at floor level to set off the detector. If the detractor goes off the safe response is to leave the enclosed space. Anyhow just a safety tip just in case you are not aware.

  • @brad3072

easy fix for the rain barrel. put a hose connection a couple inches from the top. attach a hose into the forest. then the only way it can overflow is if it is collecting faster than your hose can drain the top few inches of the barrel. the syphon effect should keep the top few inches of the barrel empty fairly well even in moderate rain.

You could easily "skirt your cabin" temporarily with some tyvec or polyethelene plastic stapled to the bottom of the siding and then anchoring the resulting "flaps" to the ground with pavers. Once you get a good snowfall, you're good until spring thaw.
I can't imagine it would take more than an afternoon, and you prolly already have all the necessary materials on-site.
    Hope this helps.....

May I humbly suggest, that rather than moving the rain barrel away from the outhouse. I would think you could drill and insert a piece of PVC pipe (1"?) near the top of the barrel, to act as an overflow pipe. And then support & direct it as far away into the woods as needed.
*I look forward to watching your adventures and accomplishments every Sunday!
