      Does the motor size matter? I think it says a 70CFM on mine. Would it be okay to get the 50CFM for my small bathroom (it's only a toilet and sink).

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  3 роки тому +1

      @@toma.rogers6647 I'd say that 50CFM is more than enough for that sized room.

      Can you replace the motor of cfm 50 to CFM 70? Do the pin outs spacing the same to fit?

    Great video. I’m trying to figure out if these can be upgraded. This is a great resource for disassembly and reassembly.

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  2 роки тому +1

      Glad it was helpful! As far as upgrading... do you mean like gutting it and replacing the mechanical parts? If so, you could but remember that they often change designs between model numbers so it would need to be a part that is interchangeable with your current model. That's similiar to what I did when replacing the motor in this video.

      @@MCFIXIT Yes I’ve checked the Broan website for an upgrade fan replacement but it doesn’t seem available for my particular model. I would like to move more air without a total tear out and replacement but that is looking like my only option. Thanks again for the great video. Well done.

    would love some help understanding why its important to know if the fan spindle rotates clockwise or counterclockwise, and also how the fan blades are facing or air will blow in vs. out. replacement motors come in CW and CCW directions and buying the wrong one will result in not exhaust but air blowing in

    I just ordered a replacement motor for my mother in law’s bathroom fan. It’s probably at least 30 years old and light, fan, heat and nightlight. The modern replacement has a plug and the original is wired in, both wires black. Is one a hot wire or does it matter?

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  5 місяців тому +1

      Hello, it is hard to tell unless I would be there. I would use a volt meter to see which one is which. It's too hard to guess in an online comment, sorry. I hope you are able to complete your project!

      @@MCFIXIT The new one has a plug with no wide blade. No matter which way I plug it in it turns counterclockwise.

    Is changing out the motor quicker that just replacing the whole unit?

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  3 роки тому +1

      cheaper and much faster. You would need to redrywall if you take whole unit it. This is a quick repair that many people can do themselves!

    • @oreomayes3735
      @oreomayes3735 3 роки тому

      So true! it's very cheap to do this yourself. I spend about $25 total on the repair instead of almost $100 for a new one plus having to get someone to help re-drywall the area. Just do it this way for sure!

    How often should we replace bathroom fan motors so this doesn't happen again

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  2 роки тому +2

      Great question. Not sure if there’s a good answer. It mainly depends on how much dust you have in your home and how long the actual motor lasts. Mine was almost 20 years.

      I believe so. You will want to check the specs online through the company to ensure that would work. Many of of the 50 and 70 look very similar.

      @@MCFIXIT That’s a Broan-Nautilus type fan if you want to know. These are either branded Broan or Nautilus and they both use the same motor and parts. The BP27 works for Broan, Nautilus, And some NuTone fans.
