I miss this life so much.. The preparation, the smell of the air, the kai, just the entire atmosphere and best of all laughing with the funny uncles, aunties and cousins
Beautiful whanau. The best memories. Whanaungatanga right there. The stories, the laughter of the old man te mea te mea will remain forever in your hearts and passed down through the generations to come. Cant beat in the ground red hot rockes steam, earth smell the pressure whilst burying it. And sticking to the kaupapa for the Koroua 80th birthday. Have a beer later after all mahi done. Tumeke whanau ma. Blessings to you all. Mauri ora.
Awesome job men.....just three things missing.......number 1, Where's the kids?....number 2, not really a biggie but we always put watercress or cabbage leaves on the rocks.....and number 3, it may have come later but the Tuna always tasted delishimo grilled on those embers....yum yum. As a kid, it was our job to watch the Hangi and plug all the leaks and we used to eat the watercress off the rocks after the Hangi was done.....loved the fork with the long handle, forks didn't last long where I was from, they were mysteriously transformed into Spears.
Awesome Whanau, can’t beat a ‘ground hangi’! The piping hot fire/ rocks, intense heat you have to keep moving.. my dad loved to use banana leaves Umu style on the rocks. Full basket of choice meats and veg, stuffing.. sheets and sacks soaking in the tub.. sugar sacks seasoned from many hangi, placing them on the basket, steam and smells filing the nostrils. Then placing the secret ingredient, Dirt.. to seal in the steam. NGA Mihi Aroha Whanau 🙏🏽❤️
