How to cook a NEW ZEALAND HANGI
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 лют 2025
- I cooked a Hangi (a traditional underground earth oven) this week and roasted potatoes, kumera, pumpkin and cabbage with some wild pork and Lamb. This was my first attempt and it went well, I used all natural resources and filmed in the beautiful New Zealand forest.

Filmed using IPhone 13pro
Shot on location - Wellington, New Zealand.

Thanks matey! I liked your channel too
i never seen hard lump charcoals used like that before.
I got a webber 57 kettle.
Dose a good job too.
Like 😂👍
Believe me, neither did I hahah. I just wanted to see if it would work and that's kinda what I'm about winging it and seeing haha. Now that I know the iron bars I used kept their heat I probably won't use charcoals again
Have to watch over again,
I didn't see iron bars!
those barbell discs be the buggah, too. 5 kg ones.
I'm going to try your method, i could smell it from here mate, a really neat video guide, thankyou for posting.
Hey that’s great news! I’m glad so many people are getting inspired to try new things. That’s the whole point of doing this. Let me know how it goes my friend!
Good onya bro. I like people who try and do. Glad you didn't cover the dishes with foil otherwise you wouldn't get that hangi flavour and smell.
Kudos to you brother!! U da man 👍
Hey man that's awesome of you to say, cheers for that. That's the ultimate goal to get more people out doin stuff they thought they couldn't.
Awesome bro..looks amazing
Thanks mate! Glad you enjoyed it, keep watching for more kiwi tucker in the future
Doing a Hangi in Barefeet!!!
Hahah yea man! it’s my jam. I did have some safety gumboots when I pulled it out of the pit though. So half right isn’t all wrong? Haha
@@bogansguidetotheworldlike your style bro
Very nice brother! What is kumera? Thanks for sharing 🤠
Thanks my friend! So kumera is kind of what you would call “sweet potatoe” I guess. It’s in that family of vegetables like potato’s but it’s way larger and harder, and sweeter than a potato. And has a few different colours too.
@@bogansguidetotheworld cool 😎
Forgot da stuffing cuz. Ah stuff it still tino pai anyway👍
I know eh, I regretted it afterwards but I didn't know how to make it. But I've got another Hangi planned for this long weekend so I wont forget this time!
Lol😂 shopping busbusket.
Such a bargain! 😂
Try doing a hāngi without any herbs and spices next time.. it over powers the unique earth taste a hāngi is known for..
Definitely keen to try again!

The second Hangi video
leave the skin on the pumpkin cuz ???
Mmmm I wondered about that. When I make my roast's at home I leave the skins on. I actually don't know why I did it on this video hahah. Thanks for watching Tony
Forgot the beer buddy.
I know. a cold one would have gone down a treat! But unfortunately this old dog gave up the grog a few years ago now. I was always more of a burbon guy anyways haha.
