- Your vehicle has many different parts that function in many different ways to make your vehicle run correctly. Over time some of these parts will go bad and need to be replaced. The Purge valve on your Vehicle is an important part, and when it goes bad it can cause your vehicle not to start up correctly after putting gas in it, as well as cause your check engine light to come on. This video shows you how to test and change a Purge Valve on a Chevy Traverse, Buick Enclave & GMC Acadia from 2009-2017.

Your video just saved my bank account, with you as a guide we replaced the purge valve on my 2016 Buick Encore. Slowly began idling rough upon starting a few months ago, then twice in the last two weeks stalled at the pump after filling up. Took it into my mechanic who said *really* to run some dry gas thru it. The part was about $40 and the work took us about 20 minutes and it's running smoothly and silently and I'm so grateful. Thank you.

Just for the record I fought this problem with a Ford Fusion and thanks to great videos like this I have peace of mind when I fill up now. I had actually made it a habit never to fill up anywhere but in my hometown just in case I couldn't start it I figured the wrecker bill would be less.

2010 Buick Enclave was difficult to start after we got gas. Replaced this part and solved our problem. It was exactly as described. Easy fix. Thank you

My 2012 chevy traverse has this same issue. I just leave it running when I get gas now because I'm afraid it won't start back

I got a P0496 EVAP SYSTEM HIGH PURGE FLOW code as we as a P0442 EVAP SYSTEM LEAK DETECTED (small leak) . I replaced my gas cap and my engine codes cleared so consider this possibility as a problem as well especially if your EVAP VALVE passes the paper test or you replace the valve after it fails and you still have the problem. In my case the system leak was coming thru the gas cap rubber seal.

Thank you for this video! My husband changed the purge valve several weeks ago and it did good for awhile but now the last few times it isn’t starting up right. Could the purge valve have went bad again?
Shouldn't go out so soon unless your topping off your gas when filling, which can cause it to go bad, also would use some gas treatment sometimes that helps. Hope u get it fixed.Please subscribe & like and share if haven't already and check out our other helpful videos

one thing, if the car works while the valve is disconnected, why not leave it disconnected? would it hurt the engine?
Yes it will cause other problems. So you should replace.

If the hose is loose should that be replaced along with the purge valve canister. I did notice it was a little loose when I replaced the other part. Changed the purge valve and it fixed the issue of not starting after fueling, however it randomly stalled in a drive thru days later. So now wondering maybe the hose is bad too.

2015 Chevy Traverse having intermittent starting issues. Replaced purge valve but the problem still exist. Next thing to look for after this? Was told engine has carbon deposits. Any fixes for that? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

my 2016 chevy traverse Lt is starting to smell gas fumes after starting my car up i have gone threw everything that I can think of new spark plugs and coil packs air fliters, throttle body, changed one O2 sensor up front purge valve. Im at a loss going threw gas like crazy any help would be appreciated

Sorry not sure, but sometimes it takes a few weeks to start working correctly. Make sure you don't top off gas, that is what can cause this problem.
