HAPPY NEW YEAR I'M GOING TO RUIN MY RELATIONSHIP!
Happy New Year, gurl! …Again!
Happy New Year!
Pretty sure that was ruined last night with Jilk
Happy new year. Y'all are going to be fine
Finally losing your Mario Party virginity Reese! These boards and mini games are the true IQ test! Next you have to face Masae’s “BUTTON MASH BUTTON MASH BUTTON MASH!” And figuring out where to go next while listening to Emile’s puns & logic!
"It's like I'm playing with Tim and Emile." DK rolls a 10 and Jon/Waluigi rolls a 1. It really is just Jon's luck.
I mean they did pick DK who was one of Emile's mains, so there's that as well
I guess now the question is will Lucah play like Tim or hard CPU4?
The minute you said that, the words "You Liar! You Fucking Liar!" echoed in my head
@@castleoffiction96 That entire LP just fucked Jon over constantly, I honestly still feel bad for him. Especially with the DK stage when Emile got like 22 stars in one run, like holy shit
@@andrewpappas9311The game is not supposed to treat Jon as its Canadian plaything; that's Lucah's job!
Tips:
- Patience. Mario Party requires learning the boards, mini games, events, etc. So just keep rolling with it as you play and learn.
- Learn the items. Some are definitely worth the coin cost but some are very situational. Also can depend on board and star cycle.
- Fight dirty against your opponents when you can. Steal items and coins. Sabotage in 2-v-2 if you can afford to, etc.
- Also watch your placing though because too far in first (or coins) can make you a target.
- Weaponize Jon's luck. Mario Party is chaos and luck. Sorry Jon ;D
- Have Fun! ❤
The difference in energy with Jon between Lucah vs Emile and Tim is honestly adorable. It’s so much fun watching them play together.
Any friendship/relationship that can survive a game of Mario Party is immortal.
They should add that in wedding vows;
“Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, in sickness and in health, for better or for worse, throughout Dokapon & Mario Party, as long as you both shall live?”
Anybody who says “yes” are real ones.
@@JJ_R But they haven't played Dokapon together yet. Honestly, that one is even more friendship-ruiney than Mario Party IMO.
@@JJ_RWatch as the number of married couples decreases. XD
Though that’d ruin Waluigi’s business…
@@Klaxynd It may decrease the number of married couples, but it’ll also decrease the number of divorce cases.
Chance Time is gonna show up in a divorce paper one off these days.
Luccahjin “I don’t like Donkey Kong.”
Somewhere Emile is quietly crying.
Yeah, I remember her saying she doesn’t like monkeys in her Pokemon Platinum series.
Sad Monke noises
(slowly retracts teeth)...
First rule of Mario Party: If you're losing, you're winning.
If you’re winning, and Jon’s in the room, you’re missing something.
0:35 I mean, Mario Party is close, but the game that REALLY ruins friendships and/or marriages is Dokapon Kingdom. Jon can tell you ALL about that one.
Technically second time if we count Colosseum. Almost had the win too if it weren’t for MalSweep, but Raleigh memes too stronk.
6:28 Reese, if you ever want an easy win against Jon, pick Peach’s Birthday Cake. It is the board where Jon’s good luck goes to die.
More like what little of Jon's luck there is dies.
Jon and Lucah playing together are the most wholesome thing, love these duo LPs!
Whelp, I know Jon is a Mario Party Vet from the trenches of TRG, so I can only assume he will take the 2 partner paths in this scenario and be gentle a guiding with Lucah, or ABSOLUTELY CRUSH HER.
Or option 3: try to guide and help her, only to end up winning anyway because he's Jon :V
It's the first time Lucah plays Mario Party, and she's already rocking the boat in minigames.
Also she plays Shantae and Touhou. 💙💙💙
From one deadly game of betrayal and trechery straight into another
I'd like to go back to Rhizome 9, thank you very much.
A fun fact you may enjoy: Mario Party 1's soundtrack was composed by Yasunori Mitsuda! Some of those tracks of course appear in this game - the hub world music (at 3:21) reminds me a little of Chrono Trigger/Cross (thinking of 1000 AD map or Arni Village).
According to a recent interview from when Mario Party launched on Nintendo Switch Online, Mitsuda had to scrap over 200 tracks during production - a record he thankfully has not broken since! Director Kenji Kikuchi initially tasked him with writing "jazz" pieces, but didn't specify that he meant "big band" until much later...
Oh boy, good luck Lucah. Your husband is notoriously lucky in Mario Party, his only weakness being Emile. I'm very looking forward to this.
In an alternate universe, I'm sure Morphogentic Fields and jumping through time have been developped by playing Mario Party and you can't change my mind about that.
30:14 Wario says “D’oh!”, this really is a callback to the N64 games!
In that case, it sounds more like, "WHOA!"
Been playing with Jon for over a year now and only now it feels like I'm finally learning how he plays.
Whispy Woods is what Lucah is thinking of
I can’t believe you’ve never played Mario party when you’re married to a member of TRG. Time to join the chaos
I grew up with Mario Party 7, terrific memories.
Lucah choosing Woody Woods as the the first board is the most in character move I've ever seen her make lol
Never thought Lucah was a Touhou fan. You learn something new every day.
i really need to find others to play MP online with one of these days for a stream or something XD
Also, Reese did a damn good job at the first ever minigame.
Reese don't sweat it too much, this is literally Mario Party. Ask Mr. Jon how many times this franchise has meme'd on him, you stand a chance too lol
no one:
absolutely no one:
lucahjin playing as wario at the item shop: can i get two number 9's, a number 9 large, a number 6 with extra dip, a number 7, two number 45's, one with cheese & a large soda
Really glad to see people using classic bonus stars. It makes the game much more about skill rather than just luck.
A tip I will say for the memory game if it ever comes up again. Anything that is still on the shelves is right. You don’t have to move it. You would have gotten perfect if you had known that this time.
Honestly, it would have been hilarious if Lucah had gotten the star from the hidden block!
I don't know which part is funnier here: The idea of Jon teaching Lucah how to play Mario Party (hopefully without teaching her his rolling luck), or the idea that Lucah and I both use Wario in Mario Party (even though I used to use Yoshi for a lot of the games until I started playing as Wario during Super Mario Party, where he got one of the higher-tier special dice in my opinion. Legit though, a 2 in 3 shot of rolling a 6, and a 1 in 3 shot of losing coins while rolling a 0? I'd take those odds. Also, I started doing really good with him at that point and eventually became a Wario main at that point instead of a Yoshi main).
As far as tips to get good? The main one I can think of is trying to buy your items situationally (by which I mean you base your purchases on what a specific situation calls for. But in general, the Double and Triple Dice Block options are usually pretty good. Otherwise, there's another item that appears in the shop randomly that you can buy for 25 coins that lets you warp to the space before a Star, basically guaranteeing you that Star (provided you don't use it when a bunch of Chomp Calls are in play). But really, just do your best and hope that you don't get screwed over by RNG, since RNG is very much a factor in Mario Party, at least from my experience.
That said, this is gonna be fun seeing how Lucah fares playing Mario Party. To be honest though? With all respect to Jon, I could see Lucah beating him her first try with how his luck hates him in Mario Party. So if that does happen, RIP Jon's luck.
I have a small handful of tips that I can give. I can relate to Jon in his position, since I've played Mario Party for over 2 decades. I can confirm it can ruin friendships; but it depends on who you play with and their tolerance, I don't think you have to worry so much because he's helping out to be better at it. It's also recommended that to not take Mario party too seriously as there is RNG factor at play too. Here are some tips to help you get closer to getting better at Mario party:
- Because you selected the bonus stars on classic, keep track or a notepad of the players who is winning the most mini-games, for each player that has landed on the happening place, and players who have reached the highest amount of coins. Stars are the most important, it's extremely useful during late game. Getting all 3, or 2 bonus stars can change the tide very quickly from last to first if other players are not paying attention.
- For mini-games, because each one is different, all you need is practice. Some mini-games are skewed especially in 1 vs 3 mini-games. If you're not sure how you lost, definitely ask Jon. Know which mini-games are skilled or luck based. Practice on the ones you're not great at, especially if you're aiming for the mini-game bonus star. If you're not sure how to put yourself in advantage position, you may have to either ask Jon or look up some videos of people playing that specific mini-game, observe what they are doing differently that makes the mini-game easier to win and overcome. Patience, learning and adapting quickly is your best teacher here because you will encounter some mini-games more then once.
- For items, learn which one does what, if not sure ask. Some are great for movement, stealing coins or stars, gain advantages, or cause disruption to the star or players. I like lots of movement for example, so I like to keep double or triple dices with me in the beginning if I need to get to a star quickly, or if I'm a place I need to get out of quickly. I usually pick one up when I'm at the toad store if I don't have any in my inventory, extra dices are your best friend.
- Take advantage of the board, learn the gimmick for each one. If it's helping you, or it disrupts other players. Happening spaces are different for each map, however normal spaces like blue, red, chance time, and bowser spaces don't change drastically until the last 5 turns.
- The map is your best friend! You can open the map to see where players are at the beginning of your turn, or during other situations like toad shop, or other events. Doing this helps you strategize better, and gives you advantages when deciding what to do next turn. For example, If someone is going for a star next turn, check your items to see if you can disrupt them.
- Lastly, cash is king! Pile of coins lets you buy many things at the store, and buy stars readily. However, it also puts a giant target on your back if you have a lot of coins or stars. Computers are known to target first place frequently, so carrying disruptive items are useful, or landing on happening spaces, that will detour other players.
Goodluck Lucah! Have lots of fun playing one of my favorite games. :D
This is absolutely hilarious because my sister and I just played this game for the first time a few days ago. I chose Waluigi since Boo isn't an option, and I had absolutely horrible luck rolling, to the point where I looked at my sister and said, "I inherited Jon's luck by choosing his character." 🤣 happy new year - may 2024 be full of joy, love, and many entertaining moments!
Oh Luchajin never played Mario Party before? Lets hope that she has a blast, and doesn't do something like TRG's MP3 run
"What's he worried about?"
"Life"
Most relatable quote of 2024 already, damn. XD
First video of the new year! Fantastic start! Happy New Year, you two! With the way Mario Party works, I’m expecting a blowout from you, gurl, even if you’re not expecting it.
Don’t forget to keep your friendship/marriage alive afterward!
This is about to be the BEST Let’s Play series I have ever watched hahah
Pro tip:
Go for chaos. There is no need to strategize. Just go hog wild and you will bend the game to your will. If you don't expect to win you'll always win.
The advice I would give Lucah is think: What would Wario do?
tbh Lucah has already exceeded my expectations on how well she'll do on her first game. so excited to see more of this!! #teamwario ftw
28:49 Lucah: If you teach me well and I come 🤣🤣🤣
The only way to truly win Mario Party is to get everyone else tilted
Now I kinda wanna see Lucah play through the Shantae games. Those...seem like they are right up her alley ^^
A great way to ring in the new year! Mario Party 3 is my favorite one, so it's really cool to see so much of that game carried over into this one. And don't worry, you've been rocking the minigames so far. You got this!
5:20 i think i'm quoting tom fawkes here correctly, but
He's the leader of the bunch
And to you I bequeath
The knowledge of his
Retractable teeth!
Lucah fluking a victory to the first minigame is a good sign
Oh boy, Lucah! By the end of this, you'll know why Mario Party is so infamous for runing friendships.
Yesss! Love this idea for an LP! I too haven't really ever played the Mario Party games so I'll be living vicariously through you Lucah. It looked like the CPUs were a big hinderance to Jon on that block minigame.
26:03 There are also Dedicated Sound Effects if you land on a blue space with a hidden block in it.
Yay! Couple's LP! Don't feel bad Lucah. I have never played a Mario Party game and am damn proud of it! 😅
Man, Lucah could’ve had that memory minigame if she didn’t move what was already there. But she’s not doing bad so far.
I was going to say something about the "to protect ourselves from Jon's mother" joke when Horror Land flashed by. Never mind, Jon did it himself and also more than hinted at the DIRTY MIND implications of the Woody Woods title. Mario Party is fun Lucah, but good luck on finding people who will play mercifully with newbies. Or at least, that was my experience with MP3 growing up.
I read the title. This is not going to end well, and by that I mean this is going to be beautiful chaos.
You got something in Cast Aways! Unironically, great job! Like seriously- That's far harder than it should be. Not to mention you got something besides the farthest distance!
First frame and I see two Touhou games, great start!
When I heard your tweet about playing Mario Party for the first time, I had an inkling that you might start with Mario Party 1 on the Nintendo 64. I'm glad that you're starting with Superstars; like Jon said, it's essentially a "greatest hits" game and is ideal for beginners.
I remember my first game of Mario Party; it was about 24 years ago when I rented Mario Party 2 from Blockbuster. My siblings beat me in every round...
Since then, I have practiced Mario Party 2 on my own time. I would slowly proceed to pick up all of the home console games in the series. As for today? I really like Mario Party! My three favorite games ever are in the MP series.
While I love Mario Party very much...I am by no means an expert. See, I usually play against the AI on Normal difficulty. It's very rare that I play against actual people. I imagine that if I challenged Jon, Tim, or Emile, I would get absolutely _crushed_ by their skill.
Therefore, I can't give you much advice, Lucahjin. Still, it's fun to see a completely blind run of Mario Party. I trust that this will be most entertaining.
This series is going to be awesome possible seeing lucahjin play it in coliseum in the future who knows maybe really good at
Best way to kick off a new year with a game that ultimately ruins friendships/relationships lol, Happy New Year to you, Jon and Bagel, Reese, stay awesome and love from a fellow Canadian

Jon: "This is Mario Party, everyone takes your money."
Lucah: "What? I'm calling my lawyer!"
Uh.... should we tell her? XD
The best tips I can give as a Mario Party freak:
1. USE YOUR ITEMS.
RPG's have trained us never to items but think of items like your abilities in an RPG. You can only hold onto a certain amount of items in these games so if you don't use them they will just be wasted money so it is better to use it than waste it. Something else to think about is the items that other people have. Some items move you to the Star so trying to use an item like Cursed Dice on that player may not be as beneficial as using it on someone else.
Example: At 25:05 you chose to go away from the star but you had a Cursed Die which would have changed your odds from rolling a 1 from 1/10 to 1/3. You then maybe could have landed on the Event (!) space and changed the signs back. Not saying this is a misplay because Jon had Triple Dice and needed to roll 15 for the Star so he probably would have gotten it if you did that, just something to think about.
2. Think about the turn order.
This will help you determine when to use your items and on who. In this game Donkey Kong and Mario were going before you so they will be able to use an item on their turn before you are able to. This means you need to try and think one turn ahead if you want to do something to them. Also, since Jon is going after you in this game you won't have to worry about him using an item before you can.
Example: If Jon has enough coins to get a star and has a dice item you can use a Chomp Call to move the star before he has a chance to do anything.
3. The colour space you land on matters a LITTLE bit
At the end of each turn the minigame is decided based on what colour space you landed on. If everyone landed on the same colour - let's say blue - then it will be a 4 player minigame where everyone is competing against each other. If people have landed on different colours that is what team they are on - two blue & two red is a 2 vs 2, one blue & three red is a 1 vs 3, etc. Any other colour you land on is randomly made blue or red at the end of the turn. You can see what colour people landed on by the circle next to their character portrait. This technically means you CAN swing what team you are on but don't expect to be able to do this too often with how random the game can be, just something to think about.
4. Practice the minigames before hand if you can.
Mario Party physics are JANK as hell sometimes. Understanding how far your character can move before playing the minigame will go along way in making you feel more confident in how to play and in Mario Party confidence is half the battle. The other half is luck.
5. Bonus Stars
Since you picked Classic you have 3 bonus stars that you know what they will be. Understanding the specifics of these stars will help you get them. For example: The Coin Star is not for having the most coins at the end of the game it is for having the most coins at ANY point in the game. If you get 100 coins on turn 11 but then lose them all you will still get the Bonus Star if no one else gets more than 100 coins.
The Minigame star in this game only counts the number of minigames won, NOT the coins you win in the minigame like it did in previous games. So this means that coin collecting Minigames (the golden ones) no longer give a big advantage like they used to.
The Eventful star is awarded to whoever landed on the most Event spaces (the green ! ones). Some eventful spaces are optional and you DO NOT have to participate to get the Eventful star, only landing on the space matters.
6. Boo
Boo is your friend, and will be your one left after you use him. Stealing Stars is what you want to do most of the time if you have the money, but sometimes stealing coins from someone is the better option.
Let's say Mario has 50 coins and is about to get Boo. There is an almost 100% chance he is going to use his money to steal a star. You COULD spend 50 coins to steal his star only for him to steal it back OR you could spend 5 coins to steal Mario's coins and preventing him from stealing a star from you. Both outcomes result in the same Star count for each player but you have saved 45 coins.
Make sure to write everything down it will be on the test later.
I didn’t expect this but I’m so excited for it!!!
Woof, Mario Party’s rough to play with people. I remember being a kid and my siblings would slap the controller out of each other’s hands so we’d hit “no” to buying stars
So, this is Reese's first time playing Mario Party, huh? Well, I guess it's time for her to join the Mario Party chaos, much like Jon, Emile and Tim before her.
I’m willing to bet that Lucah chose DK because he’s Emile’s regular character in Mario Party
Happy New Year Lucah! So excited to watch you finally play Mario Party!!
Happy new year!
Startin the year strong with a banger of an LP!
Lookin forwards to more!
My only Mario Party tip is to cry if you lose. As a kid, the original Mario Party got banned in my house because I cried every time I came in fourth place because something bad always happened to the losing character.
WOOOO!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR LUCAH!!!
I love that we can tell this is very recent. That game history was last Saturday's (as of this writing) fortune cookie. So this has to have been recorded on 12/31 or 1/1.
I'm surprised Jon accepted to be tortured with even more Mario Party, as if TRG wasn't enough.
When he has practice, he’s fine. And he’s ALWAYS going in with practice after DS.
Omg I NEVER would’ve guessed!
Party time. Always wanted to see Lucah try one of these.
Oooh I never expected Mario party! This is going to be fun!
Lucahjin is my favorite youtuber keep up the great work
"How to Git Gud Tip": Just keep playing Mario Party. I know it's cliche, but practice makes perfect! You learn the boards, the minigames, the items, and the tricks and everything else over time.
Yeah that tracks, outside of Colosseum I think the only time i've even seen you commentate over Mario Party was that one clip that Patty put up forever ago where Peach took huge advantage of RNG in the first two turns.
5:12 [Tom Fawkes has entered the chat]
Happy New Year, Lucah!
Aaaa!! This is gonna be such a fun series!!
3 is a great game I’ve grown up with mostly 8 & ds but definitely 3 & 4 honestly the best Mario Party games ❤
Man I haven't watched you since last year
.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
You’ve already made my 2024 this is awesome
so excited for this omg 😄
The best tip to win at all Mario parties is just do what John does. unless you’re playing Mario party ds
Yessss thank you!
I truly did not expect this!!
today I learned you can move the stuff in messy memory that DOESN'T get thrown off the shelf lmao
"Yeah, and there are a few minigames where his (Donkey Kong's) teeth are retractable."
*Tom Fawkes would like to know your location*
(Yes, I know Jon was there when Tom first found about that.)
Lucha YOU PIICK WARRRIO!
this is the best thing of all things
When Lucah said she never played Mario Party, I thought to myself, "No way, that can't be right. I've seen her play it! It was on... it was with... there was a stream where... 😧"
This is my Mandela Effect.
I'm pretty sure she's been forced in for a Colosseum or two...
Yaaaay! Horse queen is back!
Lucah: I have been FALLING, for 30 minutes!
I used to play soooo much mario party as a kid, and I was TERRIBLE at games. I used to get my brother to help me with the platforming segments of *Paper Mario*. You're gonna do fine! I always appreciated how varied the minigames were
Omg I’m so damn in for this!
2:51
I was gonna say Mario Party 8 has the biggest roster with 14 characters, but then I remembered Super Mario Party, which has 20
Hey Lucah I don’t know if you’ll end up playing it again but for the memory game the game places items on the shelf that are meant to be to be there. But you’re doing great
My friends and I swear by 15 turn games now, 20 turns just feels too long for us.
oooh a lovely surprise!!!!!
It game good I love Mario party glad you playing Mario party
Happy new year!!!
Gotta love a game of Mario Party! But my favorite board, Rules Land, isn't here!
Don't worry Lucah, I grew up on the PLaysation, so I also have 0 Mario Party exp as well. You are not alone.
Also, this is getting started on my birthday.
