THIS man made me cry. Made "Into The Wild" something completely different to me. So talented and underrated. And just discovered he died on my last birthday. Peace
I just learned that this wonderful actor passed away. I cried for hours inconsolably. I never met this man, yet his death has impacted me tremendously. This past year and a half has been tragic. So many people have died. May they all Rest In Peace!
Hal Holbrook was one of the greatest actors of our lifetime. I will never forget how easily he could move me to tears or make me enjoy a scene. The man was a natural. R.I.P Sir, thank you for your talent and I'm glad you are with your wife.
I remember him in Designing Women as Julia's boyfriend. He was so funny because he could make great comeback lines to Julia's pompous remarks. Rest in Peace!
It's so sad that Hal passed to everlasting life and the media talk about how he was Deep Throat. Well, Hal was just starting out in those days and needed money so he did that one porno. But he redeemed himself and gave us so many wonderful years of Barney Miller. Hal, I'll never forget you.
Bigwave2003: Hal Holbrook played "Deep Throat" in "All The President's Men" He was the confidential source that Woodward and Bernstein used to investigate the Watergate scandal. You have him confused with Linda Lovelace who was in the Deep Throat porno film. And you are confusing him with Hal Linden, who played Barney Miller. I do agree, that Mr. Holbrook gave many fine performances during his career.
FUN FACT: Commander Rochefort in Midway (1976), Cranston in Cats Don't Dance, plus Amphitryon in Hercules (1997) and Great Ak in The Life of Adventures of Santa Claus (2000).
A wonderful actor - he'll be missed... by everyone except CBC News - NOT A MENTION of Hal Holbrook's passing but massive and multiple headlines about Christopher Plummer's death. Why is Holbrook not mentioned anywhere that I can find on the Canadian CBC network?
I am beginning to believe we are in another dimension because al hold brook died while Dixie Carter was playing in Designing woman and this one I am not going to back off of.
Every time I watched Hal in movies, for me he stole the screen, he had such presence. Then he got political and started criticising presidents and political views, now I cant watch him the same way. Simple message, if you are an actor be an actor, if you are a Politian be a politician. You ruin all your work if you try to be both.
We can all wish a man loves us this way. R. I. P
