Oh no another loss of a great talented American. I remember that he narrated a PBS show on Lewis and Clark The Journey of the Corps of Discovery back in the 1990's and I remember him as an actor many years before. He had a very calming but distinctive and authoritative voice as a narrator I was amazed that he was a U S Army World War II veteran too just like my father and my uncle. He had a long life but he will definitely be missed by a lot of us.
What a great life. I thought one of his best roles was Oliver Lambert in the movie The Firm alongside Tom Cruise. And thank you for your service in WW2. RIP Staff Sergeant!
He was in a TV movie ( can't remember the name) but the last rememberable line was, ",read my mind,". It was one of his best.....Then there was the Perry Mason movies!!!
A master of his craft and a class act, whose longevity seemed to defy time. Hal Holbrook could steal a scene, without being the center of attention. God speed, good sir.
I had no idea he had even passed until I came across this video. Very sad to hear. Such a great actor. Magnum Force and Wall Street were two of my favorites with him. R.I.P.
I just remembered not long ago revisiting his film In the Wild for which he received his only Oscar nomination, it’s a shame that he didn’t get it then, I so hoped that he would be given an Honorary Oscar that or this year. Very sorry for the underrated actor. RIP 😥😥😥😿😭😰
He maybe america's favorite actor from his hometown actor Hal Holbrook. and his career spent more than six decades earning five emmy and academy award just to name a few of his life. He passed away January 23, 2021 at the aged of 96. What was he famous for?
He was really good as Deep Throat (whom we now know was Mark Felt) in "All the President's Men." The scenes of him and Robert Redford as Bob Woodward in the basement level of the DC parking garage late at night have an eerie quality, and they are a big part of what makes that film great.
ABSOLUTELY IRREPLACEABLE. DOES anyone remember him in.. They kill their Masters . Don't they. RIP SIR , And Thank you for Choosing the PROFESSION(S) you did.
I only just now became aware that Hal has died. Another great American icon has passed! I always enjoyed his performances. His on screen personality was very close to my own, which could not help but impress me. He made it to age 95, which is a good run. R.I.P., Hal. Thanks for the memories.
I recognize him from Capricorn One, The Fog, Creepshow, etc. He was in a lot of movies. He was quite a big actor back in the 70s and 80s. I didn't know he died. Rest in peace.
I remember him best from his roles in Magnum Force, Capricorn One and as the codecracker in "Midway" (the 1976 version) and on television, as Cmdr. Pete Bucher in "Pueblo" and as Jeremiah Denton in "When Hell Was In Session." He had so many other roles over the years, I can't remember them all, but those were the ones that made me take notice of him as a significant actor of considerable merit. I also got to see him perform live in his "Mark Twain Tonight" at the Flint Center for the Performing Arts (front row seat, no less!) several years ago; that was a wonderful experience.
A MAN LOOKS IN THE ABYSS. THERE'S NOTHING STARING BACK AT HIM. AT THAT MOMENT A MEN FINDS HIS CHARACTER. AND THAT IS WHAT KEEPS HIM OUT OF THE ABYSS! RIP HAL!!!
What the fudge, I know he was in his 90s but I can't turn on the radio or t.v. without hearing another celluloid hero has pass away. And least we not forget all those from coronavirus, family and friends 😔🕯. My heart goes out to all.
They forgot to mention he played in the role as a vigilante Police Lieutenant in Magnum Force with Clint Eastwood as Dirty Harry!
Thanks for reminding me. I was struggling to remember a film where I’d seen him.
"A Man's got to know his limitations..."

RIP Hal Holbrook. Here's a favorite scene from Into the Wild which seems particularly relevant at his passing.
