CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Mark (Jesse Eisenberg) asks for recognition from the Harvard board instead of hostility for breaking security measures.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Director David Fincher (Fight Club, Seven) teams with screenwriter Aaron Sorkin (The West Wing) to explore the meaning of success in the early 21st century from the perspectives of the technological innovators who revolutionized the way we all communicate. The year was 2003. As prohibitively expensive technology became affordable to the masses and the Internet made it easy to stay in touch with people who were halfway across the world, Harvard undergrad and computer programming wizard Mark Zuckerberg (Jesse Eisenberg) launched a website with the potential to alter the very fabric of our society. At the time, Zuckerberg was just six years away from making his first million. But his hearty payday would come at a high price, because despite all of Zuckerberg's wealth and success, his personal life began to suffer as he became mired in legal disputes, and discovered that many of the 500 million people he had friended during his rise to the top were eager to see him fall. Chief among that growing list of detractors was Zuckerberg's former college friend Eduardo Saverin (Andrew Garfield), whose generous financial contributions to Facebook served as the seed that helped the company to sprout. And some might argue that Zuckerberg's bold venture wouldn't have evolved into the cultural juggernaut that it ultimately became had Napster founder Sean Parker (Justin Timberlake) not spread the word about Facebook to the venture capitalists from Silicon Valley. Meanwhile, the Winklevoss twins (Armie Hammer and Josh Pence) engage Zuckerberg in a fierce courtroom battle for ownership of Facebook that left many suspecting the young entrepreneur might have let his greed eclipse his better judgment. The Social Network was based on the book The Accidental Billionaires by Ben Mezrich.

You don't get to five million friends without making a few enemies has to be one of the greatest movie tag lines ever.
500 million.
Jason Smith I have to agree !
@@NT-or9wh About 3 billion nowadays.
Not really
"Man is the warmest place to hide" and "In space, no one can hear you scream" are the other ones.
"Im sorry?"
"Yes"
YES YOU'RE SORRY.
best response ever
part of that is a quirky sense of humor, part of it is a lack of social skills.
@@baneblackguard584 I doubt anyone with lack of social skills could come up with a smartass reply like that.
@@Eyeofthetiger69 what's with all this zucc thing. Z U C C
Even in that short scene it's easy to see what a good friend Eduardo is. He is waiting outside by himself, judging by the fact that he is sitting down, it implies that he has been there a while. Mark comes out unapologetically after humiliating both of them and making them notorious, all Eduardo does is support him by patting him on the back as if it's par for the course and they just go on with their day
Yes he was a great friend who believed in him
Aand jerk put knife in the back of a friend
He was a good friend, I will say... BUT he was selfish at times and too much in his own feelings reflected his work toward fb, for ex. He wanted Mark to pick him up from the airport when he knew Mark's world revolved around fb... I could go on and on about that, I will end this by saying, it was definitely some good reasons why Mark wanted him out.
@@jeremymagee2650 But in a friendship you sort of expect your friend to do nice things back. Eduardo did so many things for Mark. He was a good friend, but mark didn't give that back.
@@lillianvalla5808 I will admit again he was a good friend to Mark. U also have to take in perspective that friendship turned strickly into business when fb came about. And honestly Eduardo should of realized the simple signs of friendship... like if I'm nice to a person and they dont show me the same respect back, that's a red flag to me, kinda common sense
This guy plays Zuckerberg better than Zuckerberg plays Zuckerberg...
@Rick Lokers Which part?
Jesse is much smoother and verbally gifted.
@@echt114 You do realize there are such things called scripts, right?
@@mikecantreed Why would you feel the need for that comment? We all know it's a movie. The OP's comparison was how he "plays Zuckerberg," so of course I'm referring to his acting.
Watch an interview where he crucifies a young female reportor. Not pleasant.
“Doesn’t anyone have a sense of humor anymore?” That didn’t age well Mark.
In fact, it’s been about 10 years (exactly how old the movie is) that that’s been changing...
FOR REALL THOUGH
True
Can’t even make a comment on the site anymore without violating the ridiculous Community Standards. 😂
Very true he also played Lex Luthor very well also.
how funny would it have been if he had actually shown up to the senate hearing wearing adidas flip flops, pajama pants and a hoodie
apparently he did show up at a board meeting in pajamas
he also sat on a booster seat lol
@@reechel4390 I know he's relatively average height did he actually need it or was it just to take the piss?
@@THOMAS2910able I think it was to make him look taller and confident or something
@Cman no 5'9" isn't below avg
Oh I got it you are talking about the actor YES
Man, still sucks that Garfield didn’t get nominated for this. But hey, eisenberg deserved his nomination, so I can take some solace knowing that at least he got some love
The first time I saw this I thought they painted Mark in a sweeter light than what he really is. But the more times I've watched it the little things you pick up on. Jesse really did Mark justice by showing how much of a psycho he really is. All the little details he added here and there. Mustve gone full method and studied with some lizards.
It's witty with him pointing out the formula written outside his window and it gets uncomfortable when he says 'doesn't anyone has sense of humour these days?' turns straight up pathological
Oh yeah, he’s definitely a psychopath. I always thought he was one from the first time I watched it.
Edwardo was your only friend.
He really was, and he was a good friend too
Well having 65 billion dollars would ease some of that pain I guess
The Bill Gates and Steve Wozniak of his Steve Jobs
98.5 billion dollars or 1 friend? Of course that wasn’t the option back then, but looking back on it I think it’s safe to say the majority of people would pick the 98.5 billion. Anyone who says otherwise is a straight liar.
1:00 When the guy said that he was in charge of security, Mark is just like huh that figures lol
Lmaoo
Go figure
"I was kidding for God's sake, doesn't anyone have a sense of humor?" I don't know, Zuck, ask your censors.
When you become part of the vicious cycle.
I don't think the problem with the censors is a lack of humour - it's the blatant anti-male sexism.
@@CrashSable You can't even post a dank "it's ma'am!" Meme on FB.
@@CrashSable "anti-male sexism" pathetic
Sheesh, can't really comment on insta now. At all.
His 'apology' was more along the lines of ' I'm sorry if anyone was offended'
"Doesn't anybody have a sense of humor?"
That is so rich coming from Mark Zuckerberg.
Crashes the entire Harvard network traffic and yet has the balls to say he deserves some recognition. Wow.... just wow
That was a sarcastic way of challenging the security features after all.
There is an entire industry called ethical hackers who do just that. They hack systems, tell the owners, and then get rewarded
This is actually how cyber security networks get better and work in the real world.
They need someone to break in to be able to know what needs reinforcing.
Really shouldn't be surprised, hes a sociopath. Thats what sociopaths do.
He was an attention starved introvert with zero skills. Did the only thing he knew for attention. Should've been thrown in jail for 20 years...at least wouldn't end up as a cybercriminal in society.
A true brogrammer
I love the symbolism. Facing the Harvard board after the creation of Facemash. Facing the Senate after Facebook.
"Im sorry?"
"Yes"
Classic Sorkin
I dont understand. - Which part? LOL, thats epic
It really was. The charisma of Jesse Eisenberg is amazing
Can u explain the joke
@@Alexandra-gj4ch I think most of the credit should go to Aaron Sorkin.
1:30 Perfectly predicted today’s society
Mark do be manipulating data
Yeah it does, lol, because people in today's society think that just because they call what they said is a joke, it means they're miraculously free from criticism, which is false
LOL. The scene outside the building was filmed at my school - Johns Hopkins Univeristy. The building is called Schaffer Hall!
D W YO. So I’m in a science Olympiad team in Maryland, and I just realized I’ve been outside where Eduardo was sitting for a state competition. I was sitting in the same area too. That’s awesome
That is great
Now let's see paul allens recognition scene..
😂😂😂
Dorsia?
Wrong movie, citizen.
Love Sorkin’s little writing details. The “Which part?” quip illustrates how his brain works like a computer. Parsing conversation like it’s data within code.
I like how he's tapping his foot at the beginning implying that he's bored
I thought it was an anxious tic
you know i bet all the real people at that board meeting have Facebook. Not the actors from the movie

What do you mean?
@@shazid1891 He means this is the best movie he has seen in the last 11 years
Steve Jobs is only 6 years old if you mean a film of a similar topic.
Otherwise, if you just mean films in general, Guardians of the Galaxy is only 7 years old. It was the film that made me actually start enjoying films again so I will defend it to the hilt.
@@CrashSable guardians of the galaxy is great in its genre but its nowhere near this masterpiece.....
@Ninja Named Bob you do realize that people have different opinions right
I'd just like to point out the sheer irony of Mark Zuckerberg getting suspended over a joke.
Well played
It wouldn’t considered irony as he was not the Zuckerberg we know of today
he's not saying "you should have been looking at my dorm room window." he's saying "i wasn't even trying to cover my tracks. i cared so little about hiding that what i was doing was literally even written on my dorm room window. anyone who knew what they were doing would have found me immediately. why did it take you four hours?"
Thank you. His comment made no sense to me for 10 years up until now.
I love that line.
I don't understand...... which part?? 🤣😂
The perfect response when someone says "I'm sorry?" to a comment you make.

As a person, he’s vile. As a pioneer in social networking he’s done well
I am not sure how people perceive meta verse but it's probably in negative light now
Social media has only been a net drain on humanity
You can’t do both. He’s changed the world for worse
the "which part" is my favorite.
"6 months academic probation"
First starting college, I assumed that was some sort of actual punishment, but all it is is a label you'd just as easily get if you simply fail a course.

When I was younger I used to think how cool and brave the protagonist is.
Then when I get more and more older I realize how pretentious and condescending and downright criminal he is.
Oh I always see those 2011 'inspirational posts' about this guy, it's despicable
Zuckerberg may be pretentious / condescending / arrogant...but exactly what crime did he commit?
no not at all, if u look at full story, u can understand why he did so. He was highly frustrated due to some. (I don't want to name.)
The point is he is MARK not a random HARVARD guy, so he has ability to hack into systems. So he is a genius. If anyone in world has ability to do things then they will do at the frustrated point.
so I felt nothing wrong with it, if those prof and others were so brainy then MARK could have not hacked it. SO I really feel PROUD of him.
In this entire world only few are such exceptionally brainy. I wish I could get 50% of it.
Yep, a total narsaccist
He took images from a site and made a hot or not clone, there's almost nothing criminal about what he did. Just douchey.
They should come out with the extended version of this movie where he meets with the government and agrees to censor whatever they want him to in exchange for not regulating his website out of existence.
Except if your important of course.
"if you knew what you were looking for you'd have found it on my dorm room window" this doesn't make sense
is he implying that I would be quicker to check every dorm's window?
further, what was written on the window was the ranking algo, which was not in itself a problem or indicative of something or what they were looking for.
He is saying 4 hours wasn’t impressive at all, because he wasn’t trying to hide.
Because it's like bragging that you were able to catch The Joker when The Joker had bright neon signs pointing right to him that nobody bothered to look up at.
“If you knew what you were looking for” meaning that it shouldn’t have taken 4 hours for the security to figure out it was him
Who's here because of the FB hearing in 2018? lolol
Gelsson Ortiz me hahaha
nope. just like the movie.
Or the Congress hearing
Had to come back to this vid considering that I just watched this film in my Social Media class in University😅
Social mesia classes are a thing???

"Written on his Dorm room window."
In context to finding a computer hacker this comment has utterly no relevance.
He meant that he was making no effort to hide, digitally or otherwise.
ZesPak I thought it was more literal context relating to the Chess elo rating alogorithim Eduardo wrote on his dorm window.
@@ZesPak Still makes no sense. I get what you mean, but his words don't really imply that.
I think its just a line to make viewers think rather than saying something like "you say 4 hours as if that's a good thing". This is exactly the reason I googled this quote, because it makes no sense to me either.
Because if they had any real programming skills, they would have seen the algorithm in the code Mark used. At that point the same algorithm written on their window would have been a dead giveaway. But this dude is incompetent, he never even found the algorithm
I wish i could write a script like that when it comes to the arguments with my wife.
We all need the capacity of Aaron sorkin's dialogue intellectualism
From Stanford board to European union,
What a journey :p
Harvard
When making social networks was seen as illegal because it affected these corrupt institutions bottom line.
Also it is actually true that people actually get compensated for breaching security if they identify and help to correct the flaw. There are whole fields of business for it now
Frank abignale and the counterfeit check scams he pulled then gets recruited by the FBI
It's like the digital version of the Plexiglas case at our local transit center. It's a got a couple hundred dollars inside, the sign says if you can break it open, not only are you free from criminal prosecution for vandalism or property damage, but you get to take the money home.
late reply but the thing is, you get compensated if that company or individual ASKED you to breach their stuff. breaching it and then expecting to be hailed is illegal

Interesting how Mark only faced disciplinary action and probation for the FaceSmash site
Yet this inspired him to go bigger with connecting everyone on the Internet
Yeah, too bad the platform was hijacked by politics.
He's so quick witted
Not quite as quick witted now during the congress hearings
it's easy to sound quick witted when aaron sorkin is writing your lines. this kind of dialogue is typical in all of his writing.

Great movie!
"Uh, I'm sorry?"
"Yes"
Dormroom?
Try front house window.
Wait this happened twice
Very beautiful movie 🍿
So in this scene when mark replies “if you would have know what you were looking for you would have seen it on my dorm room window” what exactly is he saying? Is he literally referring to when Eduardo wrote the algorithm on his window implying that someone on campus should have noticed it written on the window, or does this statement have some sort of a deeper meaning? What does he exactly mean when he says this?
The guy bragged about it only taking 4 hours. “If you knew what you were looking for” implies that the cyber security head should have figured mark out much quicker according to mark, and the 4 hours is not a brag but an embarrassment
Beautiful movie lll
It's an interesting choice to use a human to play mark
I suggest recognition is earned. One has to achieve & CONSISTENTLY MAINTAIN it.
Consistency.
That "Which Part" is so Zuckerberg!!!

Jade Mcgrowger In the movie, marks friend writes out the algorithm which allows them to create the website on his dorm room window. Therefore, marks basically saying that everyone else is not intelligent enough to know the algorithm and the fact that the said algorithm allowed them to bypass their so called “sophisticated” system.
