    In the video I stated that you can use the Kenwood CAT control without a port sharing utility... That is false... sorry big mistake on my part...

      Jay Tompkins ...What port utility program are you using? Do you have a link to it?

    Thank you for your service Shipmate. How did you port share or is there software? I have almost the same setup- De W1SRR

      I used port sharing software that I purchased but later discovered that you can get it free from Kenwood at there downloads section of their web site. Yaesu has one too. In my case the TXMTR is on port one and I selected an empty port, in my case that was 18. So everything other than the Txmtr goes to 18.

      I need to revise this. The port sharing utility I used was from VSPE. Kenwood does not have one. I don’t know how I got that in my head. Here is the link. If you tell him you are a ham radio operator you will get it for free. www.eterlogic.com/Products.VSPE.html

    Jay, thanks for this, it's one of the best and simplest made, very effective. My question, since you made this, ha e you used this remotely, like on vacation or in another room? I am thinki.g about getting a 590 or 890 and would lime.to.use while I travel, and do SSB with radio at my house and computer with me. Any thoughts welcomed! De WO8USA🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸

    Great video, just getting started with a 590SG, and PC connectivity with a radio. This will be my first radio that wasn't built in the 80's.... Any RF issues using the SDR while running the amp?

    • @JamisonTompkins
      @JamisonTompkins  3 роки тому +1

      Absolutely none. I would suggest that if you are going to set something like this up be sure to set up one connected app at a time and make sure there are no bugs. Get your logging program running then try hooking up the rest.

    Hello, I could use some help.
    I have a Kenwood 590 and an ACOM 700S amp.
    I need the correct control cable that will key my amp. I'm guessing I can make one. The ACOM amp has an RCA input that says KEY. What connector do I need on the other end to connect to my Kenwood 590? Thank you much.
    Mel

      Hi Mel... I dont know what model of ACOM you have but it should work fine by connecting it directly to the Kenwood. The relay in the Kenwood is very robust and should handle the amperage of the ACOM fine. If you are worried then use a relay. As far as what plug to use, its a 7 pin DIN plug and should have come with the 590 when it was purchased but they are easily sourced. The plug plugs into the socket in the back of the transceiver named "remote". The info and pin out on this is in the instruction book. I did have mine hooked up using this method for a long time then switched to a foot switch and separate relays to control a number of accessories, see video i did. I have foot switches for sale. way better than whay you will find at HRO.

    Where did you find the CAT program for the radio? I have the 570D and can't seem to find the software.

    Are all the monitors connected to the same computer? What SDR are you using? Just getting back on the air and am learning a lot. First licensed 1977. Tnx, 73

    • @JamisonTompkins
      @JamisonTompkins  4 роки тому

      Yes, all the monitors go to the same computer. I am using a RSP2. This video doesn’t really show much as far as hooking things up but it does show how well it can work. I plan on doing one that shows the entire process but time is always the problem. Two very important utilities you will need you is Omnirig and a port sharing utility. What transceiver do you have?

    How do you connect the 3 monitors together

    • @JamisonTompkins
      @JamisonTompkins  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure what you mean by connect together. One is plugged into the video port the other two use video adapters with USB. Window can run several screens at the same time so that part was just setting up the perimeters properly
