It is not because the S300 lack of capability , it is rather because of the Russian position not to engage the Israelis . Russia is responsible for disallowing Syria to retaliate against Israel which is a most twisted position that shows Russia's political will to appeases the criminal behaviour of Israel. This prompted Iran to deploy its own systems before the talk of Syria purchasing some of them. Iran has had it with Russia's complacency at Syria and its own expense. I hope that Syria regains its national independent decision and will to hit back when hit by Israel. For Russia, they will have to decide if they want to continue serving as guard dogs for Israel. It should be beneath Russia to do so but this remains their choice. They will only lose more of their credibility if they continue to do so and maybe they deserve it. One can understand the west taking Israel's side but Russia's position is not ethical nor in its own national interest as Israel backed , armed, trained and fought with Ukraine against Russia yet when it comes to Israel Russia behaves as a rabbit. Naturally, they do not fear the Israeli army but apparently their elite has a soft spot for Israel's influence on internal issues ( Media, economy and finance) if not for a more sinister connection.
Absolutely true. I had always wondered why Israel can easily hit the targets in Syria when they had S300s. Only recently I got to know Russia refused to engage their system on many occasions. With friends like that, who need enemies?
When buying/using weapons from the US and Russia, there is always a catch. For example, you need the ok from the US if you want to use the aircrafts they sold you before using them against another country. So what is the point buying them in the first place? Is is a scam. That is why Islamic countries need to work with each other and buying each other defence systems. Turkey and Iran have already made a good progress.
I am still absolutely shocked that Iran did not deploy its Bavar systems with its IRGC corps, electing instead to let them be targets for Israel’s bombs. And that it took this long for Syria to determine that they need these systems from Iran for themselves.
Also, Iran was supposed to have the Sepehr over the horizon radar fully operational by now. It’s supposed to have tracking of around 3,000 km range and able to detect stealth. Where the heck is it?
I keep hearing glowing reports from Iran’s commanders as to how great their anti-air defence systems are. Yet, Isreal is allowed to attack their consulate with complete impunity.
40 years after the first gulf war, you would think that Middle Eastern countries would’ve realized that they have some weak ass air defence systems where it comes to facing Israel or the west. And to fix it the way Ukraine fixed their shortcomings vs. Russia in six months.

I think the answer to this complex threat's by : 1- constructing a network of advance AA guns system's with high firing rate and using high explosive fragmentation rounds HEFR deploying it around the high value target's, these AA guns could be heavily upgraded and modified with advanced millimeters radar and long range multi channels electro optical unit : 20mm vulcan, zsu23-2/4, supported by bundle of man portable air defense systems manpads or fully automated defensive line of AA guns deployed in a ring surrounding the high value target's, in 360 degree defensive deployment posture made of 14.5 mm zpu4 augmented with bundles of manpads, although the 14.5mm zpu4/2 rounds providing high volume of fire but it rounds lacking the fragmentation properties, same thing for the Iranian 8 barrel 12.7mm dshk ...
generally speaking these arrangement of deploying AA guns are important not only to protect the highy value target's from those threat's, but also it is important to releaf pressures from the other missile's air defense systems especially short range and medium ranges which usually deployed near the heavy air defense systems in order to protect it from low to medium altitude flying aerial target's...

What happened to the S-300 that Syria has!!!, Additionally, All Iranian missiles are Russian/Soviet Era missiles with new paint Job and an Iranian name!!, so how is this going to help Syria!!??. Whether it is the Bavar or the S-300, Syria is afraid to use them or cannot shoot down an Israeli plane. Syrian airspace has been a play ground for the Israeli Airforce for the past 20 years...
