Great balanced review and a total flip compared to the recent Ferrari reviews! Having seen (albeit the previous gen Corsa) at £10K for a 3 year old one, the depreciation on these is mammoth even for a Vauxhall

I agree with you that Vauxhall have definitely upped their design game recently and are producing some good looking cars. This Corsa is a smart looking small hatch. However, whilst this may be a more reasonably priced EV, I’m sure that most people looking at a small hatch car will look at the £10,000 premium for the EV (50% premium on the base model!! 😮) and say that it’s just not worth that extra cost. That £10,000 would pay for 70,000mls of fuel for the petrol version! So unless you are a committed fan of EVs, which I would suggest most people are not, then the EV just makes no sense even with a good finance deal 🤔

From what I can see it’s not a major change from the outgoing model. Key thing with any EV is realising if it’s fit for YOUR purpose. Our MINI electric is perfect as our daily with us covering minimal miles per day. The Corsa electric is a bargain on the second hand market, with cheapest models from around the £10k bracket and equivalent to many ICE cars. I know where my money would go

friend of mine in battle with Vauxhall over range, halved in just over a year, they know theres a problem but wont step up. He’s cant use it for work and they have said the battery is not the issue but want him to pay £350 to diagnose it, which he will not do. Beware buyers , they have cocked up and it will be on Watchdog soon…

39k for a Corsa, world gone mad. 6 years ago I bought a brand new Golf R estate mk7.5 for 36k! So it’s good to see Vauxhall making the finance a little more attractive.

I had a Vauxhall Senator 3.0 CDi with the LCD dash for 18 months back in the mid-90s. Cost a fortune in fuel but an absolute beast of a car, I loved it!
As a current EV owner I definitely won’t be buying brand new for my next one but there are some great 12-24 months old bargains out there that I would have no qualms about. My current EV is 3.5 years old with no noticeable degradation of the battery.

@@tSp289 I've just bought a 73 plate petrol Corsa just under £19000 almost brand new. Don't trust electric cars and the country isn't ready for them either. Car companies seriously need to bring down the prices of electric cars as alot of people will be priced out of the market. I would have thought that if countries want us to be more greener then they should sell petrol cars at a higher price and reduce the price of electric cars, simples. It's just that car companies are greedy and want more money.

    • @tSp289
      @tSp289 6 місяців тому

@@juliebaxter3564 Depends on your circumstances. If you've got somewhere at home to charge and don't frequently do long motorway journey they make a ton of sense e.g my longest regular journey is 70 miles, so an EV cosa even in -10 C should be able to manage to go there and back on a single charge, then recharge to full for abut £3.50. Talking about trust, I drive a 16 yr old FIAT which costs me hundreds in repairs on a regular basis. EVs just don't have 90% fo the parts that can go wrong on an ICE and a battery with thermal management should last for decades - which the huge majority fo them have been.
On cost, consider that ICE engines have been made for about 200 years. It's an extremely mature technology. First gen EVs are still available as used cars today. They're too expensive now, but look at the massive depreciation they've had this year and consider tat new battery tech inc solid state will be on sale in the next few years, which offers double the range, faster charging, minimal degradation and lower cost.
Have you ever driven one? Because of the immediate power delivery even a 136 BHP EV corsa is quicker off the line than my mapped 185 BHP sporty hatchback. I went for a test drive in one feeling a bit scpetical and within 30 seconds I was giggling like a little girl and looking forward to my next payday so I can buy one. My brother has a Tesla that can pull so hard your head smacks off the headrest. It's early days for EVs, but you'd be mad to count them out based on the few teething troubles they've had so far.

As always Peter…a very fair and realistic review of a car that has a purpose…a reliable family runabout with a good amount of style and practicality. As others say, it will depreciate like a used sandwich but then will be a wonderful purchase. It isn’t exciting…but it was never meant to be ….that hat was worn by the Astra 2.0 GTE Red Top….and my (now) wife had one when they were new….maybe one of the best engines of all time!! We will see what that Astra Tourer is like…probably far better than it will ever be recognised for.🤔😬😃😃😃😃😃

It would be interesting to do a comparison between Byd Dolphin, Vauxhall Corsa Ultimate and a 5 door electric Mini Countryman. Although, the Mini Countryman I notice is £10,000 more than the Corsa or Dolphin cars. I suspect that there will be an electric version of the Mini 5-door hatch, which I have no doubt possibly would be priced similar to the Corsa and Dolphin.

The B mode seems similar to an exhaust brake on my lorry. Obviously not the same but slows you down slightly on hills. I had a brand new 1.2 black Corsa SXi in 2005 with tinted windows and rear lights back in the day. Loved it. I’m considering replacing my Focus for a used Corsa e Elite Nav for my commute and local driving. They’re going for around £13k at the moment. I will only be charging it at home so would work great and save me a ton of cash on fuel. Our other car is a diesel Meriva which we use when we have the kids or do long runs. Then for the weekend fun I’m considering a GT86.

What you gain on fuel gets you more expensive tyres and Insurance and less than 100 miles in the winter good luck. Once you plug it into a fast charger the money you save will be gone. If you dont get on with it expect to lose a fortune in depreciation as well.

Only charging up at home so will save £70 on fuel a month after charging at home. Tyres only slightly more expensive, so will be off set by cheaper servicing costs. Works for me.

Interesting to see this new EV Corsa. I currently drive a 22 plate Corsa Ultimate Auto. I went from a Mini Cooper S Sport (and previous to that an Abarth 595) to the Corsa (I am a Motability customer) and I was concerned that I would really miss the excitement of driving a proper hot hatch. Both my previous cars were fantastic and are the two best cars I have ever had. However I love my Corsa. It's not as rapid, obviously, as the Mini or Abarth but the driving experience is just as enjoyable. My driving style has changed significantly as the Corsa is perfect for just cruising along. It is comfortable and easy to drive and my only grumble is the daft 'gear selector' which is little more than a slider which makes it a faff to get into reverse from park at times. It's economical too and I am getting well north of 50 /55 mpg on long journeys. It is an excellent car for me as a single person. The new styling on the 2024 model enhances some of the already great looks (love the blacked out badges) and the interior display looks better too. Excellent review Pete, I would be interested to see what the petrol version is like as an EV would be very difficult for me as a disabled person to live with as I would not be able to home charge and the infrastructure is just not good enough currently. Look forward to seeing the Astra video as I have has a couple of those too over the years.

Look at the size of the bloody thing!! It's only 28" shorter, 6" narrower and only 220Kg lighter than my Mustang!! No wonder we complain our parking spaces are too small. (Vauxhall Nova, which is where the Corsa came from, is 46" shorter, 22" narrower and 1020Kg lighter than my Mustang)!! I use the Mustang as a comparison because when it arrived in 2015 the motoring press said it was too big and heavy for UK roads.
Having said that, it is a lovely car.

Stellantis seem to be in cloud cuckoo land with their pricing. Entry level electric £32k, MG4 starts at £26k. A 1 year old Tesla Model 3 is about £30k. £38k for the top spec, MG4 X Power is £36k. I Hope Vauxhall have some profit to play with to reduce prices when they have to seriously compete with the Chinese.

I learned to drive in a Turbo Diesel Cavalier and I thought it was brilliant my instructor not so much. One of my 20 favourite cars is the 2 door Astra mk5 on looks. I have only owned one vauxhall in my list of 30 a Corsa VXR and my experience of ownership was not great as it blew a radiator then two turbos in quick succession which was the final straw. I detail my neighbours Mokka and the roof feels like a skin of plastic as it flexes and moves around like I have not felt before. The new styling of the Astra does look good in that blue colour they do with the black roof and pillars and I think it looks closer to a focus which can't be a bad thing. I look forward to your next review as an electric sports tourer is a good idea and if they did a 4x4 version that might be very interesting.

Buying any new EV as a private buyer (i.e not as a company car) is basically like burning a pile of cash as the depreciation is so severe, most EV's have lost 70% of their value after 3 years.
On the plus side it does mean we're now starting to see some very good EV's come onto the used market at knockdown prices so there are a lot of 2019 plate EV's now available around the £10k mark and these will get better over time.
PS i loved the Astra, i used to drive a 2nd generation 1.6 1990 plate for work back in the day, very nippy with a really nice interior, seemed like a very modern car for its day.

Good to see Vauxhall on the channel. Like many they were the staple of family motoring in the 80's and 90's, my Dad owned 7 consecutive Astras all the way to GSi, my first car was a 1.3SR Nova. Pretty sure Corsa wasn't used in the Uk until the 90's as my 2nd car was a Corsa in Caribic blue (3rd car was a Calibra 4x4 Turbo and then a Vectra Super Touring!) and the Police proudly nabbed all criminals in their 3.0 24v Senators as nothing could get away from them in those days.
As for the Vauxhall EV prospect, my better half got a Mokka e earlier this year; styling is far improved, arguably one of the better mini SUV's out there. We picked up a 12 month old 22 plate ex Motibility with 3k miles on the clock for £20k, list I seem to recall was £38-40k, it's probably lost another 10% since we've owned it but what it has saved in servicing, VED and fueling costs just about makes up for that. Servicing is £70 every 2 years, no VED, charging is about £15 on public charging for 70% capacity which gets you about 140 miles in the summer, 80 in the winter so cheaper than the ICE she had.
Like nearly all EV's at all price points, either lease brand new or pick up one used. I wouldn't worry about Vauxhall too much on these taking a depreciation bath, I reliably heard how much it costs for Vauxhall to build these and they're making plenty margin in them even to cover the near 50% depreciation in the first 18-24 months.

The regen braking on both the Corsa and its Peugeot cousin the e208 should be considered as normal - coasting in and ice car, B mode - med/strong engine braking in ice car. When the brake is applied the car will deploy regen braking up to its maximum ability, after which the disc brakes are phased in as well if you need to stop even quicker. If driving smoothly you'll rarely use the disc brakes at all.

Those were thd last ones i had, till i bought a wee corsa for the kids to learn in. It was dreadful. Oh dear. An electric corsa should be small and cheap. I think all electric cars should be. Then they might actually make sense....

Facelift has improved the looks and slightly better tech/range but of course it’s still massively overpriced as an EV. However, the reality is no one pays anywhere near that price - you can get £10k off one easily and the residuals are absolute pants. Probably going to be £15k for a 1 year old base trim low mileage one in a years time and that would be a good buy. Anyone buying a new one (rather than leasing) though is nuts!

Stelantis are taking the piss with pricing. I mean, they're really gouging.
Battery packs have now reached price parity for many manufacturers. Tesla and Chinese brands have battery packs that allow them to build cars to the same cost or less than petrol cars.
£11k more for the entry spec? There's no way to justify it today. I can buy an MG4 - a much bigger car with more range and a better standard spec - for nearly £5k less than this.
It's like they're deliberately pricing them to fail.

Like the review, and in isolation it's a good looking competent EV. But with Volvo launching the larger EX30 below £35K and Renault cutting the bigger Mégane's price by £2.5K for its lead-in model, it makes the Corsa electric look even poorer value. And looking at second hand values of the pre-facelift model, you just know the depreciation will be savage.

How do they justify a 60% uplift in price from petrol to electric models. Just looked at the PCP numbers, the petrol automatic is £150 per month less than the electric, that's 1250 miles worth of petrol, I do half that so I'll be sticking with petrol for a while yet, and that's ignoring the fact that as someone without ability to home charge electric is way more inconvenient.

Let me start by confirming I own a BEV and live Vauxhall's current designs. However, their EV prices are not only far too high but they also devalue like mad. Look at Definitely Not a Guru and you can see 2021 and 2022 Mokka & Corsa at or below £15,000.... So rounding up a touch £20,000 devalued in 24 months!! Clearly buying a Corsa or Mokka EV is best done second-hand...
There is no way that £35,000 (Corsa) or £40,000+ (Astra) is value for money when a Tesla can be purchased for the same money and offers far more space. If NOT comparing to Tesla then look at Citroën E-C3 (also by Stellantis) for just over £20,000..... At least £10,000 cheaper than the Corsa.

@PetrolPed Indeed... but I feel Vauxhall are not helping themselves. Start with a high RRP....After 6mths their own dealers discount the cars... £5k to £8k.... The temperature controls are just too much out of comfortable reach. The apple CarPlay connection was hit and miss. It’s not a very bad car but it’s not worth the massive cost new when looking at the enormous depreciation as Vauxhall are selling pre-reg ones with nearly £10k off which has bottomed the resale value. We now have a mild hybrid fiesta and it’s so much more solid than the Corsa. Alas ford have stopped the fiesta 😢
