Loved this Alanna! I spent the first 17 years of my life living in a pub, well, above it! My mum & dad ran the pub and it was a real hub of life & full of fascinating characters. It was during the late 70’s & throughout the 80’s. Pubs were essential in working class communities, aside from the obvious drinking, they were often the beating heart of the community. Pubs were the social media of the time back then. A vital social exchange, a place to not only commune but to find your next job, find a tradesman, pass on important messages (some of my friend’s families didn’t even have a landline in the 80’s!) They were also vital hubs for help and support during the major strikes. Pubs were a vital resource and imho, they still are! Such a shame we’ve lost so many since I was little. You absolutely picked the best Alanna! 💗

Tea, I couldn't live without it. Closely followed by (in no particular order): The English seaside (Victorian piers, wooden groynes and all). The National Art gallery. Walking in the English countryside. The Peak District in Derbyshire. Canal towpaths in London. Bacon butties. The British sense of humour. English cheese. Driving in narrow country roads. The lovely, ever-changing British weather. Umbrellas in the rain. Walking in English woods when the bluebells are out. Red squirrels. Taking holidays in Scotland. Reading P.G. Wodehouse lying on a hill on a sunny day. London Parks. The National Trust.

My goddaughter married an American and when they were dating he wanted a Thanksgiving dinner. She overcame her distaste of cooking turkey in November but apparently spoiled it at the part where you say what you are thankful for. He said stuff about how he was thankful she was in his life. She apparently didn't get into the spirit of it by saying she was thankful for the M&S £10 meal deal.

Fish and chips from a proper traditional chippie. With either mushy peas, gravy or curry sauce. What about scollops or battered sausages. Has she tried those.
We have here in the Midlands lightly battered chips. Orange chips.

    • @MS-19
      @MS-19 4 роки тому

The real question when it comes to mushy peas is "vinegar or not?" Marco Pierre White, the award winning chef born and bred in Yorkshire, has suggested that one should taste the peas as they come, then add the vinegar to take them to another dimension. He also likes to assemble a chip butty with any bread and butter that comes on the side, though he admits that this always feels like a mistake afterwards, because you end up feeling so full that you cannot manage all the fish.

Best pub I (a londoner) ever went to was a pub in Widdicombe Devon. It was a real licensed pub, but it was literally someone's front room. We followed this hulking guy who had obviously just come from plowing a field or something, and drank cider in front of a fire, listening to a small bunch of locals talking with deep Devonshire accents we could barely understand a single word of. It could not possibly have been any more authentic; it felt like we were back in the 13th century or something.

The best way to look at roundabouts is as a one way road, which it is. So you're either trying to join or leaving a busy one way road.
One of the reasons they are not popular state side is because when they had them in the 1920, but they put traffic lights on them, which caused a lot of accidents and that is where the distrust of them comes from.

Fried bread! ‘Right’ was a surprise v. the meal deal, knowing how you are with food 🤣 Back on form with the sausage roll, though (v. Right). Great final round!💕 Yeah, our pubs are good. You need to get to know real ale... and yes, a pub is like a room from home... but not at home.

Hi'ya, I've done mine, 1st place is a pub (I could be the person sat in the corner drinking cider!), coming in 2nd place, Fish & Chips :-)

That worked brilliantly! I loved the "going with your gut" pun between Fish and Chips and Roast Dinner. 🤣. I continue to marvel at you appreciation of British Pubs I have never seen someone who isn't an alcoholic love them so much!

I'm in Australia. Some of our country pubs are pretty good, but for consistent great welcoming atmosphere, good food, and beer that's at least ok, you can't beat a British pub. Almost any one of them would rate high on my scale.

Okay, Tea being knocked out made me scowl. Roast Dinners being knocked out by Fish and Chips made me shake with rage but Football being knocked out by an M&S Foodhall?! Thanks Alanna, my laptop is now in a million pieces on the floor! M&S is for Toffs! The average working class British person isn't even aware they exist! I need a cup of tea to calm down.

    Another terrific video Alanna......
Roundabouts are an essential for safety, to keep the traffic flowing, and with no mandatory stop lines.
If you ever see an overhead video of one, and with heavy traffic, it's really impressive to see the movement, and almost like it's been choreographed!
If you want to practice with roundabouts, there are one hundred an thirty of them in Milton Keynes....lol
Any chance of a hint as to your favourite pub?

You and I are about 20 years apart, but you love all the same things about Britain that I do (moved here 2 years ago). I hope your paperwork goes through soon. My husband is stuck in the states waiting on his 😢. Thank you for the Killing Eve recommendation. I've been reluctant to watch, fearing disappointment, but you're spot on.

Pub. I have lived overseas since 1991 and the first thing I do on any visit back to the UK is go to the pub. Bars just don't compete.

What a brilliant idea this was. Except for the Underground I agreed with you on everything right till the end. I waited with bated breath. Between Fish and Chips and the Pub. It has to be Fish and Chips at the Pub with a pint of Cider.

Hi, Alanna, that was brilliant and so much fun, only you could compare Irn Bru with a Roundabout, I'm going to score this video 8 out of 8 unusual battles. Pubs have been given the go ahead to reopen, with certain safety measures, on 4th July. I think I would pick fish and chips as the winner because we have a great local shop. After watching this I'm starving and for some reason am thinking of scrambled eggs on toast. When you get back here all of your subscribers will treat you to a pint of cider in a local pub and a fish and chip lunch. So glad it is garden peas over mushy peas even though that wasn't an official battle. Looking forward to your next video soon.

I'm about to nap. I'm in that blissful pre-nap period where you know the nap is about to start. There is no risk of the nap not taking place, it's a certainty. The sun is waning in the sky, its last shafts of light are kissing the ground nearby, I'm sure of it. Every subtle movement I make as I I lay here sends cuddlesome vibes pulsing through my synapses. I'm seconds away from closing the lid on my laptop..
