  • Marshall Guitar Amp Model 2555 Silver Jubilee 2550 guitar amplifier that came in with a broken presence pot. I suspect that the knob had been glued on to the pot shaft. Some of the glue had leaked in to the pot making it hard to turn.

I'm glad I found this video, Sir. I haven't used my Silver Jubilee for more than a few months. Today when I went to test out a new guitar, 3 of the pots on this amp would not move, as if someone had glued them. I tried to work them loose and they all snapped off, leaving the stem of the pot the same as this one. So I guess I'll be replacing all 3 of them myself if I know which pots to purchase. This has never happened to me on any there amp before. Find this video was a Godsend to me. Either I fix it, or I take it to Guitar Center and have them do it, but either way, it's got to be fixed. Thanks again.

I am replying as to my first post about 10 months ago regarding the frozen pots in my Silver Jubilee. I recently emailed Marshall in the UK and told them about my problem and I got nearly an instant reply by a young lady that was very helpful. She told me that she would send me the pots I needed and also the knobs so that I can replace them. I was grateful for her help and right now I am waiting for the parts to be delivered to me. After watching your video, I decided to replace them myself rather than drive 150 miles to a tech, so wish me luck. It really doesn't seem to be such a taunting task, as long I follow the ABC,s you've laid out here. But I will let you know when the job is completed. Thanks again for the great video. It helped me a lot.

I love it when sections of amps have their own PCB’s and quick connects. It’s not nearly as easy as a hard wired single part to repair, but it’s so much better than pulling the whole amp apart.
These new 2555’s are actually pretty decent amps, especially if you pick up a taken care of used one.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Nice video! And for how much they cost they should be well-built. I’ve got one of these coming from Sweetwater and should be here at the end of the month. Can’t wait because I ordered it well over a month ago. Dang back orders! Lol

I have the same issue with mine. Presence knob was hard to turn then eventually twisted off. I ordered the new pot and knob and this video is very helpful. Do you have or know of an instructional video to set the bias on this amp? Thank you for your information.

Hello, thank you. Try this video for biasing: ua-cam.com/video/13nKNuT-JtU/v-deo.html The guy that owns this amp did some research. Marshall had a batch of bad pots when they manufactured these amps. Thanks for watching and take care.

Great video, nice demo, thanks. Where did you get that pot? I have been searching everywhere but cannot find a suitable replacement. Also you might get that amp back again in the future to replace a different pot. There is a batch of bad pots in this series amp and another Marshall amp as well, which I forget. The shaft just crumbles if you squeeze with pliers.

Hello Howard. Thank you. The owner ordered the pot from Marshall. They wouldn't sell it to him at first. But when he told them that a tech would be fitting it, they allowed him to order it; and the knob too. I did some searching and found some of the other pot values in D-shaft. I will check my notes and get back to you.. Thanks for watching and take care.

@@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher Thank you much. This pot is impossible to find in the correct configuration, I swear Marshall uses odd values in odd configurations deliberately.

is it normal with rhythm channel insert if I use Lead master (off) pot it affects and add volume (in a minor way but you can listen it works!!) although is not pulled?

Great! Could you tell me the fuses size for this amp? If 5x20mm or 6x30mm? Planning to get one soon. Kind regards.

Hi, I have similar problem with my Jubilee. Bass pot seized and while I tried to pull the knob out the shaft broke. How did you manage to pull other knobs out without braking anymore shafts? Mine don’t move at all.

Hello. It's a while since I did this one. But I seem to remember they came off pretty easy. I use string to get knobs off if they are stuck. Thread it behind the knob then ease it off. Take care.

Question, my 2555x re issue keeps losing top end and it becomes muffled and then suddenly its natural sound comes back on. any ideas of what could be?

I wish it was this simple to replace pots on *all* audio amps, whether hifi or guitar! And how the heck did they snap off an aluminum D-shaft? A plastic shaft or a split/splined shaft is easy to bend or snap off, but not these....

    • @vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher
      @vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher  Рік тому

The knob had been glued on to the shaft. Some of the glue made it's way in to the pot although it would turn but was stiff. This got worse over time till wouldn't turn at all. I put some string behind the knob to try and pull it off. I pulled evenly on the string but the shaft snapped. You could see it had been glued. It had that sealed look about it.
Thanks for all the help year. Have a good Christmas and a happy new year.

I did some research after I dropped this amp off to Martyn and apparently this was quite a common issue on some of these 2555x Reissues as Marshall apparently got a bad batch of pots and some went bad quite quickly, as this 1 did
