Wow I really like the lighter finish. I think it carries the mid-century vibe better. I do envy your patience, focus, and determination. I'd have been screaming, "Christina, bring me the axe!" over the problems with the top. Your work is phenomenal!
Thank you for being transparent and showing the things that went wrong. I started doing furniture refinishing and I totally understand your frustration. When you thought you're done, things go wrong. But you did a great job in pushing through to accomplished the vision you have on this dresser. It turned out so gorgeous. It's like the ugly duckling challenge.
A lot of work. It’s beautiful but worth it…..glad you didn’t paint! Have you ever used Odies oil which you could tint. Look up Angie at Transcenf furniture and you can get that Matt finish and color toning without having to build up a finish
What I love about your work is that you don't automatically paint but restore to the bare wood. That dresser is beautiful. I have 2 antique end tables with the same black finish (maybe even worse) that i plan to tackle this spring. You've taught me a lot. And I plan to go dark. 😊 Thank you!
So much work!!! Absolutely gorgeous! The final color is amazing! I think your vision came to life! It was an ugly dresser and you transformed it to a princess! Thanks so much for sharing. Merry Christmas
Wow! This is a stunning piece! You are definitely my sanding, stripping, scraping hero today! I would not have had the heart to put in the work but you did and look at it now❤❤❤ To pass on that beautiful wood just would’ve be a tragedy! Congratulations on a job extremely well done🎉
I love this design. Especially the recessed drawer pulls. (The active ingredient in Barkeepers Friend IS oxyalic acid.) Using the paint wash to cure the overspray was a brilliant idea. Using deep center paper plates is a great idea, too. Toss it when done and no more cleanup. As for the top, I admire your persistence at getting it right. Every now and then we run across a project like this that tests our patience and our skills. You applied both very well. I appreciate that you kept going until it was right. It's beautiful. Job well done.
You mentioning how your IG friends would have passed and I'm yelling "No, that's good wood under that mess!" 😂 You did an amazing job especially with the redos because of the unknown hiding in the wood. I would buy it in a hot minute as the look is amazing. Give me vintage anyday over most of the throwaway furniture from today's disposable world. Bravo!
Definitely worth refinishing and you did an outstanding job! LOVE the color it could not be more perfect even if it did give heart failure a few times, you conquered it and taught all how to critically think through problems we will encounter so it is a Win Win for me. You knocked it out of the Park!
Dang, you are so patient! I would've been cursing and stomping! I love the lines and integrated harware, too. It turned out lovely due to your perseverance. Thanks for sharing your difficulties and solutions. I have had good luck leaving the oxalic acid on overnight, sometimes it takes 3 applications to get those stubborn stains out. I neutralize with a baking soda and water wash then rinse with clean water to be sure it is all removed.
I think you did an excellent job bringing this vintage dresser back to life. I am glad you decided to make it look like it did originally. Beautiful job.
Interesting to see how you experiment with the tones. I like the darker colour you finished with vs the initial. It is a handsome piece so much better than just painting it and in keeping with its period but a touch more modern. It's a lot easier to use metric measurements as they are decimal based. Also, hypodermic type measured syringes are much simpler than calculating fractions of a teaspoon.
hi Lisa, I have watched a few more of your podcasts, I think they are great, you give hints, tips and really get into the details and processes. Thanks
I’m pretty new to your channel and I really appreciate the depth you go into and also share your mistakes. I think we learn more from mistakes than we do from things going right. Thank you for showing how to make toner I was not I mean I hadn’t thought of that.
I think it ended up great! I always chose to keep the wood natural when my dad built me something. My sister always chose a dark stain. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder!!
This turned out beautiful!! It was a lot of work but I know you have to feel so proud!! I’ve had some stains and I wish I had known about barkeepers friend! Great tip thanks!!
Hi. New to your channel as of yesterday. Have watched a lot of your videos since finding you. I am impressed with your persistence and problem-solving. Your painting of the wood repair was excellent and some of the best I have seen. Great job with this piece. Looking forward to watching and learning more as I am starting out. Thank you for your wonderful videos.
Love it. It's very, very nice. You did a good job. It was a hard job, but you got through it. And now you have something to talk about. The hard part and send the good parts. And now how pretty it looks keep up the good work
Your patience is a virtue. I appreciate your honesty. Your work I’ve seen 2 jobs so far and both massive work and turn out beautiful. Show long is the time spent start to finish?
Thank you! 😊 🙌🏼 Thankfully, not all projects are this much work. I target about 10 hours per project, but this was probably closer to 15. Lots of time just waiting for paint and finishes to dry 😅
I am so excited to learn that I can make my own toner! In the past, I order from Mohawk & wait, & wait, & wait some more. This would help me be so much more efficient! Thank you,
Nothing ever goes quite the way we plan it. It has been several years since I stripped a piece of cabinet furniture but I do recall switching from the 3M and Kleenstrip brands to CitrusStrip because it was more pleasant to work with. I worked in sections applying stripper and laying plastic over it until the paint was lifted and I did not have to worry about the product drying out before I got it all scraped off. Everyone develops their own techniques and it looks like yours worked well for you. You achieved a beautiful result thanks to perseverance, elbow grease and attention to detail (key ingredients for a quality outcome) Well done :)
After I saw that one drawer with the raw wood, I was hooked on uncovering it all. 😬 Then when I had all those problems I was questioning my life choices 🫠
Hi Lisa! I'm new to your channel and love it! Workin' my way through ALL of your videos. This one made me chuckle and i DO think you should get a smaller brush for putting the stripper on those larger areas!! (Teasing 🤣😜) Please keep 'em coming as you're a true inspiration to "up n' coming" furniture flippers!! 👏🙏👊🙌 ❤
Oh my goodness Lisa! Your perseverance is amazing! I’m sure I would have thrown this beautiful piece in the fire pit, but you didn’t give up and it really paid off. Just gorgeous! Congratulations!
I’m sure that would have been beautiful too. When I saw that one drawer in all it’s raw look glory, it just got stuck in my mind to go light. Darker would have probably been easier too! 🤣
I’m not sure about those pulls ( just MY taste because of course we know somebody will LOVE them) but you’re right the finish turned out surpassingly pretty! Good job! And oh my what perseverance you have. I think I would have just painted it, haha
It’s beautiful ❤ thank goodness you didn’t paint it!!! I feel like this MCM style dresser suits a lighter-mid colour. I was kind of digging the original wood grain before the paint wash too… but perhaps it wouldn’t have been as even in tonethen. Gotta respect your perseverance on this one. Thanks! No, I’ve never used Odies. I’ve used Osmo and I guess they also have tinted waxes. They are on my list to try!

Thank you for showing all of the problems that can arise. It is very helpful
Glad it was helpful! 🙌🏼
Omg! I LOVE that you stuck with it. Gorgeous piece. Thank you for your integrity. ❤

Right?! I was surprised so many people would have passed on it. The finish was in rough shape but structural it was such great quality! I agree! 🙌🏼
It’s beautiful. I love the lighter finish, and am so glad you worked to make the top perfect. Just outstanding!
I love the lighter finish too! Thanks Kathy!
I'm new to your channel and enjoy watching. If nothing else you have taught me patience! Dresser turned out amazing.

Girl that was tons of work; but so worth it. It’s gorgeous ❤

I think it turned out beautifully. You're right about the oil adding a richness. That's what put it over the top. You have awesome determination.
Aw, thank you!! 😊
Looks absolutely stunning, must admit I really liked it lighter, it was very zen. But all in all what an amazing transformation.

Yeah, we’ll see what it goes for. 🤞🏼 Thanks Brenda!
Great job. The color fits the piece so well.
I agree 😊🙌🏼

So many options. Thanks! 😊
I am so excited to learn that I can make my own toner! In the past, I order from Mohawk & wait, & wait, & wait some more. This would help me be so much more efficient! Thank you,
It’s such a great technique! General Finishes has some videos on how to do it and you might also check their FB group. It’s super informative
Bar Keepers Friend ROCKS in general.
It has SO many uses! 🙌🏼

I used to love Citristrip but they changed the formula and now it doesn’t work very well. 😢 I’m still on the hunt for a better finish stripper.
Totally worth it. Great work!
Thank you! 😊
Agree! Beautiful. 😊❤
Thank you! 😊
BEAUTIFUL job!
Thank you! 🙌🏼🤩
Looks beautiful
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
I kinda wish you would’ve painted it just because I wanted to see your vision for it. But it’s gorgeous!!
After I saw that one drawer with the raw wood, I was hooked on uncovering it all. 😬 Then when I had all those problems I was questioning my life choices 🫠
Wow I love the choices that you made on this piece. Good luck hope you get your selling price.
It was a good one! It sold on Etsy and is living its best life in Florida 😎
Love it great job❤

Beautiful!
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Wow, that’s amazing. Love the finished piece and appreciate your perseverance!
Thanks Tammie! 🤩
Wow turned out GREAT!
Thank you! 😊
It’s funny… when you said ‘should I have painted it?’ I screamed ‘NO’ out loud and startled my colleagues 😂
Ha! Oops 🫣😬😊
I think all this gorgeous walnut dresser needs to bring out its original beauty is a nice walnut stain and Odie’s oil to finish. That’s it. Easy peasy
Oh really, the pulls were my favorite part! ☺️ thank you! I loved the final finish 🤩
gorgeous!
Thank you! 😊
Wow stellar work❤

Thanks Kaity. 🙌🏼🤩
Fantastic, I love the lighter colour.
Thank you! Me too! 😊
Lovely!
Thank you!!
I'm glad you restored it. It is absolutely gorgeous! No way would I have done it though.
I had my doubts midway through 🥴🫠
Absolutely stunning! Worth the struggle!
Yes it was! 🤩🙌🏼
Congratulations 🎉 new subscriber here :)
I was loving it too, but yes, it was uneven. The paint wash just kinda blends in the imperfections. Thank you and welcome! 🫶
