RV Water Pump Replacement! Check Valve Problem Solved!

  • In this UA-cam video, we talk about our RV water pump not working properly and how we replaced and upgraded our water pump with an ultra-quiet Shurflo water pump.
    We first noticed that we had a problem with our water pump when we attached the campground water line to our city water connection and the RV water tank filled up. This told me that the RV water pump check valve was broken. In addition, the water pump kept running intermittently even when the water was not turned on.
    Lucky for us the RV water pump was not leaking but it made a lot of noise since it cycled on and off again.
    Our original water pump was a FloJet but we decided to upgrade and install a very quiet RV water pump. We did our homework and discovered that the 12 V Shurflo Revolution 4008 was the best RV fresh water pump for us because the water pump location is under the dinette in the middle of our RV and it was really noisy!
    So once we installed the new water pump the pressure switch and check valve worked perfectly so the pump no longer constantly turned on and off. Another nice feature is that the pump is self priming so we didn't have to learn how to prime an RV water pump.
    If you are interested in the best RV water pump that is ultra quiet we highly recommend Shurflow Revolution. Here's the link below if you want to check it out!

    I’m glad your pump is easy to get to. Mine is underneath the oven way back against the outside wall behind everything including a vent line coming from somewhere! You have to lay down sideways on the floor to get to it. Oh what fun!!

    Great video. We started experiencing this exact issue last year and I appreciate knowing it wasn't just me who's original trailer pumps check valve had seized and failed. We use the park water now since they switched from their wells to city water and I just capped off the discharge side of the trailer pump to stop the water leaking back through it into the holding tank, which would then overflow onto the ground. I just purchased a Shurflo 4048-153-E75 4048 High Flow Pump that I will install next year. Its a little pricey but it worked well last year when we were pumping water from our separate holding tank; until it burnt out from running dry after the trailer pump check failed and the system wouldn't pressurize to shut don't the Shurflo. And yes, we forgot to turn the power to the Shurflo off so our bad : )

      Thanks very much!
      Susan and I were talking about how something always needs to be fixed on an RV. Luckily - we enjoy learning how things work and then fixing stuff ourselves so we can share that info with other RVers.

    Thanks for the video. I notice you don't use an inline filter to trap larger bits, is there a reason for that?

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Norm,
      At the time we shot this video we used an inline filter outside the RV. You can see it right at the beginning of the video. Now we use a 2 stage filter and we are adding a UV water purification system to the RV soon so stay tuned for that video. Here is a video about our 2 stage filter if you want to check it out.

    ahh gee, what a nice man, I am at a crossroads, my freshwater tank spills its water before its full, thru a pipe underneath the rv trailer, that i use to meditate and read the WORD quietly, away from my cats and happy about that. any ideas? Miguel from Lorain, Ohio

      Does it constantly leak? Could be several things....broken pump, busted pipe, loose connection or the holding tank valve under your RV for draining. Have you checked all those? Hope this helps. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Hello, how did you know that the new pump was compatible since it was a different brand with what sounds like different settings? Thanks in advance.

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Justin,
      Great question!
      It is a 12 V pump so it can work on battery or shore power and the fittings were all the same size. Most water pumps are interchangeable...

    I have the same Shurflo water pump. The internal check valve failed causing the fresh water tank to overflow when connected to city water. Just sayin'.

    A water pressure reducer will decrease the likelihood that excessive city water pressure will damage the checkvalve in your water pump.

      Hi Chuck - or whoever you are...lol!
      Great point - we use a water pressure regulator which does help but every now and then the water pumps just fail.

    So, bottom line, was it a bad check valve in your water pump causing the problem? My fresh water inlet is leaking water and I'm not hooked up to city water. I took it to an rv repair shop and they changed the city water inlet insyead of fresh water and when I said it was the fresh water leaking they replaced the fresh water valve and it's still leaking.

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  3 роки тому

      HI Renee,
      In our case yes, there was a bad check valve within the water pump...I'm not quite sure why yours is leaking but things are not always as they appear! lol! I've had to learn that the hard way quite a few times.
