  • Today we are reviewing the IRVWP. It is a way to add smart features to your RV water pump. It also makes your RV water pump much more quiet and stops the surging and makes the flow of water much more smooth. It also has features to turn your pump off if there is a water leak and even turn your pump off if it is running dry so it doesn't over heat.

      I agree. Using DIP switches and pots on an item that is likely to be buried in the undercarriage makes no sense to me. If they don't want to use a wireless protocol for some reason, they could use a wired control panel that could be installed inside.

    • @calburnIII
      @calburnIII Рік тому +5

      I have one, which I installed. Once set, there’s no reason to change the settings. And it’s not “buried in the under carriage”-it’s within a 2 or 3 feet of the pump. Mine is easy to reach, just inside the cabinet in which the pump is located, if I want to change any settings.

    I bought this unit for our Airstream 30 ft and have had the same positive results as you, and the same dip switch frustrations. I must add the owner /engineer is a super tech and so helpful on sales and service. I sure hope this stays that way and he like others is not bought up by the BIG GUYS that do not answer the phone or an email. I have asked him about Blue tooth in the future so those settings could be done on a App. And I understand that R&D cost could be prohibitive to keep it priced right for us end users. I appreciate your Video review as I tried an Air Forums post and got the usual Naaaa I like hearing the banging pump. For you reading this I am a HUGE fan of this product. For you layman not into automotive pulse width modulation think of IRVWPC operation as a dimmer switch smooth from off to full bright or anywhere in between unlike a light switch BANG! Full on Full off.

    I have had the IRVWPC for about a year now, and I can't stop telling folks about it. It is one of those products that people generally don't know about. If you boondock this thing is great, if you are always connected to water, then don't get it. IMHO.
    What I have found is that not only does it make the pump quieter, but It can help from getting the cold/hot spurts when you shut off the shower to lather up your hair, and turn the water back on. It helps to keep you from being scalded or froze. I also found out that if the spouse turns on a facet while you are in the shower, it will help keep you from being scalded or froze. When boondocking, you can get a nice trickle of water to wash your hands, or a plate, with out the on/off/on fast/slow/fast stream of water.
    I also think they really need to re-invent the name. I think it would get a lot more traction in sales.

    Our water pump is below a closet about in the middle of our 27' Airstream. Since using this device (IRVWPC), the water pump is much, much quieter and the water pressure is better. Sometimes, when my wife is in the shower, I have to listen to tell if the pump is running. I believe that the people that their water pumps in their living area and complain about the cost would have a different opinion if they ever got to experience using it. It's been a game changer for us.

    To eliminate two of the three issues, get a SeaFlo (or equivalent) accumulator. Hook it, inline, with your pump's outlet (so, pump outlet, accumulator, RV water system) and set it to about 2-3 psi below your pump's cutoff pressure.
    This will smooth out your water flow, eliminating pulsing of the pump. And only turn it on to recharge the accumulator.
    It doesn't do much if you have your water on full-blast, but with less flow, the pump will run less often, but in longer bursts to do a full accumulator recharge. It should increase your pump's longevity too.

    • @littlechicago7482
      @littlechicago7482 Рік тому

      From the manual "The most efficient use of the accumulator occurs with the pre-charge set at the SAME pressure as the pump’s pressure switch “turn
      on” setting. Typically, a 45 psi [3 bar] pump will turn on around 30 psi [2.07 bar]. Therefore, the pre-charge should also be30 psi [2.07 bar]. The pre-charge MUST be set in a “static” condition (pump off and at least one water fixture opened).

    Thanks so much for your review of this, Jared! I wonder how much noise reduction this would provide if an accumulator tank were used with the water pump. From what I've seen, such tanks reduce the frequency of the water pump cycling, but it seems that they would still make a lot of noise when the pump runs.

    • @AllAboutRVs
      @AllAboutRVs  Рік тому +1

      Good question! We had an accumulator tank before and it does help with reducing the short cycles on low flow but didn’t change how loud the pump is. This changed the sound enough to where I had been thinking of getting an accumulator tank again before we got this to test and now it’s not necessary. You could do both and they can work fine together but with as smooth as the pump sounds now it’s fine on it’s own.

    • @BTNomad
      @BTNomad Рік тому +1

      I have installed a Seaflo pump, Seaflo accumulator, and an IRVWPC. Super quiet. I do believe having the accumulator tank does help to reduce the amount of time the pump needs to run. To me, as I'm converting a box truck, it made sense to build in all three up front. I'm glad I did.

    I'm always watching your videos with high interest but this one honestly is a too much a nice to have gadget.
    I like to hear the sound of the pump; with today trailer manufacturing quality issues, I prefer to control the pump myself from the panel switch.
    Recently we got the kitchen hot connection broken and I was alerted by the pump and was able to stop it in less than 15 sec; waiting for 5 minutes would have been too much!
    I turn off the pump every night and every time we leave the campsite when boondocking same as I always turn off city water when leaving RV park site, just my opinion but in many cases I'm always looking at the the simpler, the better ...

      Actually, I found that the IRVWPC does save water. My small 20 gallon tank used to last me 4+ days of boondocking, which includes showers every other day. After I installed the IRVWPC, my water lasts 6+ days. I attribute that to not turning up the faucets as high, which I tended to do to stop the pump knocking as much. Now if I just want a little water, like to wet a toothbrush, that’s all I use. I was frankly surprised at how much less water I used after installation.
