Hey Claudio... I have been making music for 20 years plus, and since watching your videos, you inspire me to do better (or at least try to)... thanks. :)
The mastering example was really impressive. I had no idea there were so many models of pultec equalizers. Really beautiful sounding Rhodes 73! Very nice playing! Thanks for teaching me!!
Not only the huge hat collection but also the various cowbells in the background are impressive. The Rhodes track however is awesome. I really mean that. I like it a lot! Kind regards.
great hands on video! The comparisons would be much more useful if you had compensated for the added volume. I know it would have taken a bit more work on your part but it would have been worth it to ball park it in the process. Also, would have been helpful to compare to similar treatment using a non Pultec.
in the waves version of PuigTecEQP1-A the bandwidth knob only effects the high frequency button. you can make a "knock" with this one with sharp bandwidth an high frequency on 3 or 8 or whatever fits best
I feel stupid for wondering but are those two kicks going to be in phase if those plugins aren't running blank on the dry channel? Would the processing time of the com and eq not set the parallel track a tad out of phase?
Claudio your beautiful Rhodes playing was also handy for isolating the resonating knick knacks (mainly Lego Voltron, now removed) from the top of my monitors. Worked even better with the Pultec in the path. :-)
Hey doctor great video I learn a lot watching your videos as a student learning to become an engineer in audio. I was wondering something about the Afro beat. I noticed after enhancing the mix your levels stated to go in the red. From there on out where you leave it at that or what would you have done to bring the levels down so it doesn’t clip while still keeping the life within the song
Hey Aphex :-) just to clarify, the reason why you saw red on my meters is because I set the colours to red in the last few dBs of the scale before hitting clip, however I was’t clipping. Having said this on this demonstration gain staging was not a concern as I was just demonstrating, not mixing. If you search youtube for “doctor mix gain staging” you should find at least one video and one podcast we’ve done in the past about the subject. And yes, long live Afrobeat! ❤️
You are playing with the band width after setting the low boost and frequency . . . the bandwidth has nothing to do with the low settings, its for the mid/high frequency (which you have set to 0dB -/+).
Nice plug-in. It's funny the mid range eq rack mount has paint scratches, at the place of the screws, lol. I love your Rhodes and your music, we would say the music in Charlie Brown. thanks, Cloud Dios.
Man, i suppose that you meant pre-fader send, because the fader of the original track you are paralleling doesn't affect your copy of the signal, Then, actually in the pultec unit, the bandwidth is related to the high frequencies boost only, the other are shelvings, By the way, nice recordings
Great as always, any chance you can make it more obvious when playing the with vs without modified section of the music, for non-musicians it's not very easy. Better with the second example.
Thanks a lot for the Cool Video, but I would like to know another Thing: How can I learn the jazzy Chords you played on the Rhodes? That was really nice!!!!:)
Do you know how to set up an internal feedback loop within Cubase in order to use the Waves Q-Clone plugin to see what your various EQ plugins are actually doing..? If I Google it I can't seem to find the answer, and the Waves manual only describes how to route to an external EQ and back in again. Is it even possible..? Pro Tools guys seem to be able to do it with a few simple clicks.
To answer your question, I was self taught until 8, classically trained until 16, jazz untill 20, orchestration until 22, pop session keys until 30, independent artist until now. I am 47.
I've some old songs, only exists on cassette, since midi files and instrument settings have gone with my old computer. It may be a chance to improve them. The main problem is not the fatness, but the mess, you know, everything melt together. Could an eq help this? Btw, thanks the vid.
Probably it can, there is another option for this case: The BBE Sonic Maximizer, Claudio also did a video about it - ua-cam.com/video/Ie5pUTPgxIM/v-deo.html
someone who makes a tutorial video about pultec eq use should know the bandwidth knob only effects the high frequency section and not the low frequency as used in this video
U accent IS sometimes. so particular . Where r u from plz? Je suis français mais je m'intéresse aux accents car les accents sont aussi de la musique Great video btw
I agree, but it’s better than the bleed through from the studio monitors: I hate studio videos where the music is all phasey... or can’t speak while the music is going. I know, compromises, comprmises...
I never use pultec eq only in mid side processing in mastering... .... best thing to do in mixing , mix only with stock plugins.. mixing is all about balance in leveling and panning not coloring
Why? What? You do need colouring indeed! That’s why these units keep on being made in all sorts of variations... there is an entire part of the pro audio industry that lives off the need of mix colouring!
@@Doctormix i agree with but i have tried ways to get that sound without 3rd party plugins .... in studio one.. you can do mid side processing .. i started to do that week ago.. what i have figured out that my mixes started to be colored using this technique ( mid side eq on each stereo channel ) without using any 3rd part plugins.. In my opinion i prefer not to use pultec eq because you are adding un needed frequencies using different eq over parametric eq you already fixed the frequencies that are effecting other instruments... Mixing is all about finishing the produced songs in a way to male it sound clear... once you do that you start coloring it... For example : You cant color a picture unless you draw the lines first :D
Amer Darwich I guess everyone has a different way to get there. At the end of the day there are only 2 kinds of music, bad and good 😂 So at the end of the day I don’t mind how you get to your final sound... as long as I like your final sound 😁❤️🤟🚀 groove on my friend!!
Nice shirt ;-)
People please listen to sunlightsquare - the groove (This is from the guy in the video).
Thanks!!
Man you have been using pultecs a long time and you don't know that BANDWIDTH affects only high frequencies?????....really???
OMG!!!!!!!
Lol
This guy is... a clown
Came here to say this. Stopped watching at precisely that moment.
I didn't know but I came to look for this kind of "enlightening" comments. Thanks!
Hey Claudio... I have been making music for 20 years plus, and since watching your videos, you inspire me to do better (or at least try to)... thanks. :)
Thanks for your kind words man! Love u back 🤟
Claudio, the Bandwidth just works on the high frequencies. I realized you tried to chanche the Low Q.
The mastering example was really impressive. I had no idea there were so many models of pultec equalizers. Really beautiful sounding Rhodes 73! Very nice playing!
Thanks for teaching me!!
nice Dr Mix, Acustica are probably the better emulation on the market, however gain matching is mandatory to really do a before/after...
Finally! Thanks for this comment!
and he forgot to turn on the preamps in all of them...
@@ThePhantomJack Well I guess he's a good musician and a very enthusiastic fellow who tries to do to his best with the technical...
I find it so interesting that we have all this astounding digital technology, yet we keep going back to the old stuff.
Not only the huge hat collection but also the various cowbells in the background are impressive. The Rhodes track however is awesome. I really mean that. I like it a lot! Kind regards.
the bandwidth knob on pultecs is for the high freq boost only and has no effect on the low freq band
So much more than volume :) 100% Nice job
pultec sound like smooth butter. such a natural sounding and sexy eq
Doctor Mix! ❤️🙌 I love that we use the same DAW

Absolutely recommended to watch the video with good headphones
I like that Jungle mix, great work

Great video...I love the Pultec sound!
Acustica audio best sounding plugins at the moment
That Hallex M joint just took me straight to SuncéBeat. Thanks for the tips brother Claudio they'll definitely come in handy.
YEAH!!!

That kick cut like a knife!
It is working great! Can you also recommend the hardware clone from EQP-WA or you thing this Vst is enough? Thank you for your review!
pair this with the warmth opto compression of an LA2A and it'll sound nice
Great trick! Thank you
Hi Dr Mix. what about gainstaging?
Great video, great plugins
Mastering is like voodoo. Does it sound good in a car with the treble and bass boosted to 11!
Woah, what's that song? It sounds amazing!
Excellent!

Great video !
Love it! Do you know can you get the plugin on multiple computers. I didnt seem to find any info about that
Thnx Dr.

I don't care about the mix anymore. I wanna know about the hats. SOOO MANY HATS !
Thanks Claudio !

Great video! Try to switch on the preamps for added harmonics and sweeter results (click the red diodes icons) :-)
That theme... AFRO-HOUSE is it yours??? I like it very much...where can I buy or get it???
HOLLY REVIEW..Purple 2 is AWESOME!!!
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
great and funny explanation! thank you
Love that second track!
I hit the like button as soon as I clicked on the video.
but nobody is able to pass volume change so theres hard to find any point in this eq-ing

I had no cpu issues while using it
NiceEEEE!😁
Ouch, bad review! No compensation for added volume. Not knowing that the bandwidth knob only affects the high frequencies. But the enthusiasm....
Faltou ativar o plugin amigo.
Dang, how'd you learn to play like that? You're talented dude!
Hahaha!!! And I remember when I first saw the diavolo I mistook him for a lawyer 😂

@@Doctormix Hope you did not sell your soul, like many great artists did. That's sad.
imagine squinting at your mix on ur screen and saying "yeah, oh yeah baby" after just turning the volume up real loud...
lmao
But seriously, it would be easier the judge the EQ if you matched the levels. For me, anyway...
Nice bit of Rhodes, btw.
good gear bro
make a Psy Trance track , my friend .it will be interesting to see how you do it .
ooh that bandwith knob...
Namaste and thank you

bandwidth confrol works only for high frequencies not low end 🤔
How many of those red shirts do you have?

I want my Cubase!
Thanks boss
Bandwidth only affect the high end
I will make a mix form welcome to dr mix sound!
Wauw, nice video
I love your videos, but I don't like Cubase ;-) It would be so great if you can do videos with Logic :-)

No, it's an original!
lol, it's not Kraftwerk. I love the filter modulation on the 'nyaww woow' lick at the end.
