Immediate like 1 minute into the video 😂 you’re hilarious
Haha! I try. Thanks love, I appreciate it.
Selena felt like a side character in her own show
Exactly. I think they could’ve done better with balancing it out.
RIGHT
Just like Black Widow in her own movie or Han Solo in his own movie. What's with this kind of writing?
@@user-is7xs1mr9y I think with Black Widow it's just cause the wrote the side characters to have more fun personalities and be comic relief, and unfortunately Black Widow's personality seemed very dull when they made her the protagonist.
Didn't Suzette say that this show was going to be more about the whole family though? Pretty sure she said that.
The family’s anti-Chris agenda was really showing in this series.
Big time! Smh
Absolutely
They hated Chris from the beginning and they were super Jehovah witnesses and all Selena wanted to do was get away from them according to Chris I feel like the Quintanilla family was know different than the Jackson’s .. controlling father docile mother Who push their kids to the point of breaking.. The Jacksons were witnesses to ...something about those JW 👁👄👁
Right and it really pissed me off because he loved her so much but they made him look like some slacker who never paid attention to her.
Agreeeee
This show makes me want Chris’s series of “To Selena, With Love” even more than before. Chris deserves to share their love story.
Yes! I know that the executive producer of the Selena movie actually has the rights to her life story. I wonder if he would be able to work with him to produce it.
Oh I bet it would’ve been better than the Selena series.
@@TheBlushBunny really? I thought that was all owned by Abraham
@@TheBlushBunny I retract my first comment. I gave it a Google!
Makes you wonder how Abraham has gotten away with suing everyone who speaks Selena’s name?
@@TheBlushBunny I hope so, Chris has been trying for years! And would like to see through his perspective what exactly happened. I felt like He knows something that we don't perhaps trying to silence him for years.
I 100000% agree it should’ve been called “The Quintanilla’s” because I learned way more about AB and Suzette than I actually did with Selena. It’s not a bad thing, but Selena really did feel like a background character of her own series
Exactly. If it was marketed as a show about the family, it would’ve been much easier to enjoy.
The entire series had so much Lifetime energy that I just couldn't even finish watching it.
Yes!!!!! Literally my first thought while watching episode one. It was such a struggle to finish. Lifetime is cool for a lazy Saturday. But for Selenas (with an s) absolutely not.
@@TheBlushBunny Exactly!!!!
Fr. I don’t even remember seeing Selena in the series. I literally can’t think of a major scene.
I started episode 1 and 10 minutes later I just couldn’t force myself anymore. I couldn’t believe how bad they did her story... & then continued to put it on Netflix.
The only good to come out of this series is that Chris' popularity soared: he reached 1M+ followers on IG and FB and his book topped the Amazon bestseller list by the end of the series. As musch as the Q family aimed to keep Chris in the background, it backfired!
Actually that's great I'm really happy to hear that.
@@veronicapomar6010 Right on!
Now this is what we like to see!
@@TheBlushBunny Absolutely!
Agree!! LOL 😂
They should’ve involved Chris because he understood Selena more then anybody and it’s also his love story too.
This.
THE MAIN PROBLEM IS THE FAMILY. They’re to selfish and problematic to let go of their cash cow (Selena) think about it..how many celebrities you know got another series or movie on Netflix based on their biography TWICE? The series was an absolute cash grab and RUSH, now not to say they couldn’t do one down the road, however! the fact you allow SUZETTE (or however you spell her name) to take complete control over the whole series and wouldn’t even allow Chris Perez to have a part in this series shows how far hate will go in life. Damn..what a shame.
This.
I agree cause wtf
And not only that but they hating on the wrong person. Chris loves Selena to this day. He has nothing but good things to say about her. I read his book and it brought me to tears knowing that Selena was not only very real but such a sweet and loving person.
Yessss .. as the years go by they become more sour and sour .. yeah a family member was taken and I can’t imagine that pain of losing a sister or daughter but I think it’s very selfish for them to had made Chris sign his rights away from ever publishing anything Selena .. like tf ? I bet he finally got some sense knocked into him that no she was my wife gosh darn it .. like nothing can be closer than that ? They were 1 body u know ?!?! The world deserves to know his side of the story oh how much of a beautiful person she was that’s never been told u know?!
The way they wrote suzette in the series is the way she was with selena in real life. Suzette acted jealous of Selena and didnt want her to fall in love but it was ok ti have and marry bill with no problems. That whole family are hypocrites. The only true ones were Selena and Chris. The rest just cared about money
The Series felt like Selena’s life according to her Dad or how her Fathers wants us to remember her.
the movie showed more of that tbh
Totally agree, Abraham didn't wanna see how much Selena loved Chris, that is why Chris in the series is so bad.
‘Mr. Raccoon and Mrs. Possum-“ I CAN’TTTTT LMFAOOO 💀 😂
😂
I swear, I rolled on the ground laughing 🤣
That took me out 💀💀💀
Selena the series was just another performance where the real Chris Perez had no chance to put his side in it. The only one that really knew Selena was Chris. This show was mainly about the family becoming a band and not Selena Quintanilla becoming SELENA. They kept missing main points about her. Yes, she was a wonderful singer but she did so much more and that’s what she wanted. She didn’t want to just be known as a singer, that’s why she made her boutiques. She was being captive from her own family with keeping the music business because everyone wanted part of it. What I also wanted to see was her mother’s side of everything that happened. Chris and her mom deserved better. The movie and show was ran by the Abraham, Suzette and AB
I’ve also wondered what her moms perception was of everything. Sure we get a glimpse here and there but it would’ve been interesting going more in depth. I really hope Chris gets to tell his story one day.
Jesus loves u:)
Literally they think it’s all about them like nobody cares about the band nobody ever cared about the band. It’s about SELENA.
As soon as I connected the dots that AB sr. sued Chris to stop his show so he could put this out I already knew it wouldn't be that good. Then I saw the wigs and thought 'ha! suffer'.
Waittttt.... no! I didn’t hear about that. That’s so messed up. He should be allowed to tell his OWN story. He was her husband for crying out loud.
well this crap piece of work only made people want to see CHRIS"S version even more, Thats the only one Im interested in. The guy that produced the movie from what I read owns the rights and he sued Abraham over the series. Maybe he and Chris can make something happen
Let's bluntly say it. Jennifer Lopez evoked Selena's spirit and gave a genuinely breathtaking performance worthy of an Oscar nomination, at the very least. Christian didn't look like Selena like you said, but she looks like Jennifer Lopez playing Selena. Her first mistake was to watch the movie. You can't copy such a legendary performance. Also, you took the words out of my mouth. The show made it look like it was The Wonder Years.
The Wonder Years 😂😂😂. But yes, so many wrong turns with this one.
I mean yes, hardly I agree with u on this but it’s not about the looks really . Mainly the performance and how the story is told.
Nothing will top The Wonder Years
What exactly was she copying????
Can we talk about the fact that this girl looks nothing like Selena? I mean JLo doesn’t either but in the movie she truly does embody her. And at least jlo had curves and could dance
JLo definitely served Selena well.
Agree
Yeah, the fact she looked and acted nothing like Selena but instead acted like Jlo really broke the movie fantasy. You have to force yourself to see Selena in her rather than Christian making you believe she is Selena.
Well if you paid attention SUZZETTE SAID SHE WASNT LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY THAT LOOKED LIKE SELENA
@@Ariiiyaa2 why?
I completely agree with what was said about Christian’s performance! It felt like she studied the movie Selena instead of studying interviews of Selena and videos of her performing. The entire time I watched the show it always felt like I was watching someone play Selena instead of watching Selena herself. From the cheap wigs, to the horrendous padding job, to the over reliance on the raspy voice that we all associate with JLo’s performance as Selena. This was especially true during the clips of her performing. It was painfully obvious Christian couldn’t dance and didn’t understand how to properly lip sync to her songs. When comparing clips of JLo performing as Selena to Christian performing as Selena, it’s obvious that JLo put effort into getting as many details as she could right. Anyone can do hand movements and dance the washing machine, but Selena had specific ticks to her performance that Christian failed to portray on camera. She just ended up looking like a Selena impersonator/cosplayer. Christian only really felt like Selena in the last two episodes of the series which is a big fail in my opinion. I also think it says a lot that the portrayal of Yolanda stuck with me more than portrayal of Selena. I also agree that the romance between Chris and Selena was dry. Like so dry. The actors had absolutely no chemistry and Chris just seemed so watered down, especially when compared to his lively, memorable portrayal in the movie. Selena herself also just felt very meek in the show and that’s not what she gives off when I watch interviews of her. I think the only thing that I liked about the show was that it showed the impact that her death had on her family and the fans years after the tragedy took place which is something the movie couldn’t do because it was made so close to her death. So really it’s kind of a default compliment. If anything, watching the show only reminded me that there was a better version of the story I could watch elsewhere. Yes, it gives more details which I absolutely love, but quantity never outweighs quality. In comparison to the movie, the show just falls flat.
I really needed this rant. I grew up watching the Selena movie and listening to her music. She genuinely felt like family despite me not even being alive when she died and helped me personally navigate the struggles of finding my identity as a Mexican-American woman. The fact there’s gonna be a generation that grows up with this version of Selena as their introduction to her just doesn’t feel right. Not because it’s new, but because it just doesn’t feel like Selena.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 yes. Yes. AND YES. You and I are one in the same. I agree with everything you said. And the only reason I didn’t mention the body padding was because I didn’t want people to think I was body shaming. But they could’ve done better.
And I probably should’ve added that I did appreciate seeing the families viewpoint after she passed.
But I can’t express how much you hit the nail on the head with this one. 💗👏🏾
@@TheBlushBunny thanks girl! I can definitely understand how commenting on the body padding could be misconstrued as body shaming but it just made her shape look so unnatural. I absolutely loved this video and your last point about what made the movie so much better was so right! Even though the show had more of the story, the movie had so much more heart! Although I did love the Pete Astudillo appreciation the show gave cause he’s a king lol
you literally worded this so perfectly and put exactly how i felt into your comment bc her portrayal of Selena just didn’t feel “right” and it was made to seem like Selena was so absolutely sweet, and i’m sure she was really sweet, but not a timid kind of sweet like Christian portrayed and it just feels kinda weird watching the series and then going and watching interviews bc those are two completely different people even though they are supposed to be one person it’s just kinda surreal tbh
@Nostalgia Jones I went into the show knowing that no one can get Selena down to a tee. However, finding actors who can hit close to the mark is not impossible. JLO understood how to do this. Another great example that comes to mind is Rami Malek and his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody. Christian fell flat in this area. It wasn’t that the nitpicking details were missed, but an overall essence of Selena was. Watching Christian’s portrayal of Selena compared to interviews of Selena and her performances, it is very clear that she missed the mark. I wasn’t expecting her to be exactly like Selena, because JLO wasn’t exactly like Selena. However, watching the show it was easy to see the Christian was an actress playing Selena instead of seeing her as Selena in the show’s respective universe if that makes sense.
@@aurorasalazar4488 it’s weird bc selena was portrayed in the original movie as being kind and sweet but headstrong.
I think Abraham was portrayed as less "loving" in the series on purpose. In the movie he wanted to be shown as loving and just being protective over Selena rather than controlling (as he was shown in the series). That was one of the only things they got slightly accurate in the series, other than that the series wasn't giving what it was supposed to have gave 😭
You’re probably right…. I guess I just appreciated the warmth he had in the movie. Because although he was controlling I don’t doubt that he truly loved his daughter. And still does.
But yea. It wasn’t giving what it was supposed to. I want my money back 😂
@@TheBlushBunny Yea.. it was really heartwarming to see their close bond in the movie. I'm sure he loved her..
They gave her the Tyler Perry wigs. 🙄
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 I’m CRYING
The whole cast
foul 😭
The problem with the show was the family. Suzette produced the show, I'm sure that's why they chose to focus on the others more, why Chris portrayal was off and his relationship with Selena was poorly scripted. They even said they wouldn't give this cast the same treatment they gave to the movie one bc ''there was enough material on the internet for inspiration''. It was a cash grab from Netflix mostly, they didn't even let them have an input on who was going to play Selena. A mess.
Such a cash grab! Smh
The problem with anything related Selena is always her family, they will not let her rest in peace if it means stoping banking on her.
The only story I wanna hear is Chris's
Damnn💔💯
The only highlight for me from the series was that it brought some attention to her earlier songs that don't get as much attention as her later ones get.
That was definitely a treat!
Has anyone noticed in the series whenever Suzette speaks it was like a forced country accent??! It like came and went throughout the series. It was weird to hear because I live in Texas and people don't talk like that. Lol.
The accent literally came out of nowhere! Lol I really want to know what prompted that because it was so random. Suzette in real life doesn’t talk like that.
I know right??!! It was just weird hearing it in the series. I cringed every time! 😂
Super cringe lol
I'm from Corpus Christi.....No, we don't speak like that. lol
@June Bug Some folks in Texas have a Southern accent but not like actress who played Suzette and especially not that hard here in Corpus Christi.
I think why she felt like a side character was because the “main character” is the family and the band not just Selena
Jennifer and the cast from the og movie spent time with the family and got to learn their humor and manners and the little spark that makes them special but the tv show they were just playing the roles without having attachment to the characters
Zero attachment and it shows.
It disgusting
So true. Suzette spent little to no time with the characters
Also there’s a behind the scenes documentary on how JLo prep for the Selena movie and the reason why the chemistry was amazing is because she spent almost everyday with Selena family for 3-4 months before filming to learn Selena’s habits and to build a strong bond with the other cast members, I think that’s why the performance was phenomenal, I don’t know what Netflix is doing but it seems rushed with no chemistry or layers.
It’s a story about family, and love no matter the obstacles but Netflix failed to let an actual familial relationship develop between the family and cast or just the cast getting along with each other in a way that felt like something every Mexican family can relate to
The movie was for sure better than the series. The only thing I liked about the series that wasn’t in the movie was what was truly going on with Yolanda and how Selena shut her out for what she did, and where Selena was shot and how she was convinced to come to Yolanda:
Agreed. I do like that we saw more of the dynamics of that relationship.
The main issue with Chris and Selena in the series is the time spent trying to get the audience not admire their relationship. Mr Q specifically had already fallen out with Chris and hates that the fans love Chris so much. We still do in fact the series made me dislike the Q’s.
I’ve seen a lot of people saying that online. How they look at the family differently now. I just don’t understand why they disliked Chris so much. Like is there something we all don’t know about him? It’s just not making sense.
@@TheBlushBunny a lot of really ignorant people really expected him to spend the rest of his life alone and in eternal depression over her. Chris will always love Selena like nothing else but his option to spend his life with her was taken from them. He went through all the stages of grief over a 20 year period and he’s allowed to move forward. He will never move on, move on implies he doesn’t think of her or support her and her legacy or that he doesn’t love her. But he can move forward in his life and find whatever happiness is left for him on this earth.
Then add the Q’s doing the most trying to paint him over the years as someone who did nothing for Selena and if it weren’t for them (the Q’s) we would have nothing. Here is the thing with that. Chris took the natural progression of loss when he lost Selena. Mr.Q took a different path not really wrong but different. The family (really Mr. Q because they all do as he says) would be fine with Chris and so would the supporters of the Q’s if Chris would just fall in line and do whatever Mr. Q wants. That’s not how Chris is and after so many years and realizing how he has been taken advantage of and treated in regards to Selena he had enough and said no more.
The fans begged for this book from Chris (it’s so good, it really humanizes her where the family sterilizes her image) and of course after being wildly popular a company wanted to do a series. Well Mr. Q said no and in fact is trying to sue Chris for it. Meanwhile and he and his kids hastily (and a bit unethical) threw together a series. They already had the movie and they really tried to keep him out of that but Hollywood’s stance is that “if there is no love story there is no deal.” It’s all very greedy.
Mr.Q had Chris sign his right to Selena’s name, image, and voice within 10 days of her passing. Chris was by all accounts from the family not functioning especially at a young 25, enough to understand the gravity of that and it’s really gross that Mr. Q took advantage.
One last thing these people who worship the Q’s really don’t see who they really are. Mr. Q didn’t want the “love story” a part of her story in the movie or series, that is fact. The fans want to believe that the series came about bc the family is working really hard to preserve her memory but what they fail to remember and see is how self serving the series was to their narrative (about themselves) not about Selena at all really. How Selena became a side character in her own story should have been a red flag. Since the series AB has said some shitty things like “what did Selena really do”, “anyone can be a good singer but with out a good song they have nothing”, and he along with his father have reproduced 2 of her original songs to remove Chris’s credit from them to now refer to Chris as “that person”. Yea “that person”… THE person your sister loved more than anything. THE only person who stood by her and supported her dreams of having a boutique beside her mother. THE person who was a part of the band for 5-6 years (not 2, which is what he would like you to believe) and never once tried to steal her spotlight and even allowed Selena to deny him their relationship publicly for her image and career. THE person that is the only person we can thank for loving Selena in the way she deserved before her passing (the romantic / soulmate love). How is that honoring Selena. Let’s not forget his charge of sexual assault in 1999 or being On Texas most wanted for back child support of over 80,000 dollars. He’s on his 5th marriage and has 8 kids that by most accounts he doesn’t take care of or didn’t see. I’ve covered Mr. Q it’s all control for him that the long and short of it. I think Suzette would be fine with Chris as well. I think Fshe tried the most but at the end of the day she has nothing without Selena and her father. He whole life is wrapped up in working to keep Selena’s memory alive however her father sees fit and so if he cuts that off she had nothing but her 25% and who knows what that would be. Greed is ugly.
Thanks for this breakdown of the situation. As horrible as it is, sadly I’m not surprised. Though I am shocked by AB saying that. Wow.
@@TheBlushBunny if anyone wants to discredit me or lick the Q’s boots All I have to say is all of this is public record and with a little bit of research everything I have said can be proven. It is not hearsay or me just choosing to believe Chris.
"with the racoon on his head" I AM ROLLING
😂😂😂
You know Christina had better chemistry in twilight with Eric than she did with Chris in the series. Just saying. Christina plays Angela in twilight and she just seems even more funny in twilight as well.
I agree
The whole Beyonce scene, my sister and I were like, "Huh?! What?!" haha
Lol it actually did happen in real life. But it does catch you off guard lol
Tbh it was really a fun fact knowing that beyonce met selena but I personally think it wasn’t that necessary to put it on the show it was just random that they put it there but that just my opinion
@@Breh3543 I agree. It’s a fun fact but it was clumsily placed and quite frankly, unnecessary.
Felt like a Alfred Hitchcock cameo
Series felt like a cash grab. Most of the performances lacked, it felt rush. hated the wigs. hated the lighting, hated the green screen.
Oh my goodness. Don’t get me started on the green screen.
As a Selena fan this series were trully dissapointing, they had the duty to teach new audiences who Selena was and to give us some more details about her to to the fans and it didn't happen, neither of those things were there.
The only reason why I wasn't that bored watching is because I already knew most of the things that were happening beforehand and that shouldn't be happening if you want to introduce Selena to new people you should at least try to explain why things happened and how instead of just slammin' it to your face.
AND THAT'S AN OTHER MISTAKE, I shouldn't even know most of the things that were happening because they were supposed to give me something new I didn't know about Selena already!, and not only that but NO ONE had chemistry and that made it even worse.
also the dancing was bad and you could see that this was produced ONLY by the Quintanilla family because of the way they portray Chris' and Selena's relationship, they make them seem like they were fighting all the time and that the relationship was never working which was not true.
(Sorry for the broken english too, I'm mexican so english is not my first language, hope you can understand)
Don’t apologize for your English love. 💗
And I completely agree with you.
@@TheBlushBunny I have never seen the movie. I have never seen the Netflix series. Have you seen the series that was in Spanish?
Friend I said the same thing “it was like she was a shell of JLO as Selena”
Exactly lol that girl studied Jennifer.
Seeing the Selena movie intro made me cry instantly.I minus well watch the Selena movie. But I got to watch it through you. Also “no salt, no pepper, no paprika.” Had me rolling.
Please watch the film!! I’m begging you!!
When I say you will fall in love 😩 it’s everything that the series wasn’t.
And you know I was telling the truth about how bland it was 😂
So I just realized that you probably meant that you've seen the movie before and that my video made you want to watch again (not for the first time)... excuse me while I wipe the embarrassment from my face lol.
Yes I agree with you the production of this was awful and they didn't feel like real people to me until like the last two episodes. Like you said by then it was too late.
Right? It completely takes you out of the moment.
It felt like they didn’t care about details , not just in the story but in the production too , that makes a sloppy project , it also did felt like they filmed moments and not a journey, there was a disconnection , they definitely could’ve found a better director , and artistic one cuz that’s when biography projects end up amazing cuz those directors just understand the magic
Agreed.
They did those wigs dirty. 😭 I never understand how movies and shows that have their characters wearing wigs do not hire people who specialize in installing wigs! If a movie/show requires a lot of special effects makeup or elaborate costumes, they normally hire people who have great experience in doing those things. It shouldn’t be any different with wigs. 😮💨
Exactly!
I'm Indian and honestly didn't know much about Selena or about the movie but I did see the show and just hearing u talk about her and JLo's portrayal of her makes me wanna watch the movie now lol
Please watch it! I’m begging lol. It’s so good and I think you’ll really get a feel of who Selena was. The essence of her.
Whenever you get the chance to watch, come back and tell me what you think. Lol
Watch the movie! I grew up watching it. It's such a huge part of childhood and JLo does and incredible job. As a child inoften forgot I wasn't watching Selena and it fleshes her out more as a person than the show did.
Yes, yes, yes!!! This felt like a Disney channel original movie in part 1 in the worst way possible
Right!? Smh did her so wrong.
The wigs are horrendous especially Selena's. The longer "iconic" hair style with the bangs is hideous.
Lol I thought the “signature” look was better 👀😩
Her hair looked good in the motel scene 😭
I agree with you. I was disappointed that they didn’t even shot in Texas. They shot most of the series in Mexico. If you going to do a series about someone who lives in Texas especially in Corpus Christi (which is very flat) and doesn’t have mountains at all. I’m not sure the location manager really did their homework on east and central Texas at all. That was my biggest concern of this series.
The fact that this doesn't even have 500 views is criminal! This was so good and summed up all the thoughts I had about Selena the series perfectly!
I’m glad you enjoyed it! 💗
It’s slowly trying to gain views lol.
But feel free to share it with friends and family 👀. Lol
In my defense I just found it today sorry.
The wigs are atrocious!
Beyond! Lol
I definitely agree especially with the actor portrayal of Chris. I mean I just saw a interview with him and he didn't even know what year Chris and Selena got married. I mean if you are trying to play someone you should do as much research as you can (or spend time with the person) and that is one important thing he should have known. That let me knew right then and there why it was just not good. I think that that is where the movie shines better along with some of the other things you mentioned.
Wow, I almost feel like it’s disrespectful for him not to know when they got married. Especially, since them getting married was a huge part of their love story. That means he was really just winging it when it came to his acting smh.
@@TheBlushBunny Exactly. I agree.
Minute one I knew this would be an accurate review of the show 💀
😂😂😂
The best thing about the series: the trailer tbh
Sad lol
This felt more like “The Quintenilla show” and not the Selena show. And I completely agree with the Chris actor. It felt like they put a cheap spirit Halloween wig on a white dude and said yep. That’s Chris Perez. 🙄
The irony in that the guy who played Chris in the series is actually the younger brother of Tyler Posey (who played Jennifer Lopez’s son in Maid in Manhattan and the lead in Teen Wolf). He just doesn’t seem to be as charismatic and good of an actor as his brother.
Halloween wig from the bottom of the sale bin.
Man, the Selena movie is so iconic. Just ICONIC.
Hopefully in the future..we get a series or even a movie based on Chris’s book…I Really wanted to know how Selena was a person, a women not a singer…we as fan know she was the best in the game but we got this 😩
We need his version! Patiently waiting.
This is the best critique I have seen by far. Finally someone who also wanted to see more than what we saw in the movie, soooo many people complained that it wasn't exactly like the movie and they wanted to see more of her adult life when I wanted to know more about her childhood and her teen years, as you said "things we haven't seen"
Oh wow, that’s a huge compliment, thank you. 💗
Selena series felt like Selena with a jlo filter then a whitewash filter over that lol
Oop 🤭
@@TheBlushBunny right though?
It was the butt pads for me 😭😭😭😭
Stop it! 😩😂😂
No because the way Yolanda’s actress was giving more than the actress for Selena 🥴
Right?? Like come on!
Both jlo and Christian smiled a lot when they sang. Selena did not make a sweet smiley face when she sang. She was serious and very mature and concentrated on her voice and dance during concerts.
That’s true
In real life Chris said he seen Selena for the first time in a pizza hurt parking lot and thought she was beautiful but only friends and until the time when they went to Acapulco and AB had asked Chris about Selena is when he started to be like wait I do like her - so bother the movie and show got it wrong 🤍
I wish we could’ve got scenes where she got drunk for the first time and started being cute and goofy or when they first held hands and his heart was beating crazy 🥰 but that too much to ask from the quintanillas
I wish they had shown it smh
They hate Chris till this day and that’s why you can’t see the love story we all want to see between Selena and Chris. Suzzete being one of the producers of this series messed it up with their love story. I think she’s the one that told Abraham in the real life about their secret love story and that’s shown in the series too. As soon as she found them together, she ran to Abraham to tell him. Maybe Suzzete didn’t like Chris at all or maaaybee she liked Chris too much. That’s jealousy right here. Cause being one of the producers she didn’t give us the amazing love story of Chris and Selena, cause from the videos you can actually tell how much they love each other. But in the series it comes out as a mistake and that ruined everything for me 🙄🙄🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
When I tell you I subscribed just off of your editing and commentary talent. You got me rolling😂
Lol! Thank you love 💗 glad to bring some joy your way.
imma flex real quick. my dad used to be in a band and his band was the opening act for kumbia kings and he met her dad
That’s cool!
The series gives me very much “we have Selena at home” vibes 💀
Stop!! 😂😂😂
“The series... he was a square” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
😂
The issue with the series as a whole is that it constantly felt like, 'well, this happened in the movie so we don't need to do it' or 'we'll only show some of it because the movie did this scene already'. As for Christian Serratos, I do think she could have done a better job. Do I agree with her casting? Not really, but the potential was surely there. I do believe had she had Chris Perez to turn to, he could have had shed some light to her character that the the Quintanillas try to shy away from. They want Selena as this perfect angel and doting daughter, that from the sounds of it, seems to contradict itself as far as her relationship with Chris tells us. It's been said, that Abraham had wanted to change things in the film because of how it came off. So does it surprise us if Suzette had felt in similar regards, thus ripping Selena of her fire - leaving her sweet and perfect, but terribly boring and simply just there?
This. All of this.
I guess the saddest part of the film and series is: no matter what they added or subtracted to make it better or worse, it still has the same heartbreaking, heart-wrenching, soul-crushing, flood of tears inducing end that makes you ask "WHY?!?!?!?"
This. Smh so sad.
I haven't watched the series, but I did rewatch the film recently. I hadn't watched it in so many years, and like you, as soon as it started I felt myself getting into my feelings. The way it was done, the banter and moments that happened between the bigger moments. I had even forgotten the scene where the stage is rushed and Selena calms the crowd with a slower version of Como La Flor. I was so invested in it that, when the ending happened and Selena dies, I wanted to throw my television through the window. The actress who portrayed Yolanda was so hated that people would screech at her when they saw her. I remembered her in 'The Goonies,' and it took me a minute when watching 'The Goonies' again recently when I was like 'YO IS THAT YOLANDA? TF SHE DOING IN THE GOON DOCKS. GIRL.' Anyway, liked and subscribed!
Oh yea, the actress who played Yolanda had it tough.
Thanks for subscribing. I appreciate it.
I’m glad this serie happened, that way people were forced to admit that JLO played Selena like no one else could, but haters will hate her even for that.
Definitely gave me an even better appreciation for JLo’s depiction of her.
The way they portrayed Selena’s father’s attitude about her dating Chris was creepy.😁
It failed because they are not telling the real story. Didn't Selena have a love interest. People got tired of the one-sided story from her family only.
You can tell Suzette and Abraham had a HEAVY hand in story writing. ESPECIALLY on Selena and Chris' love story
Yeah especially on how they found out Chris and Selena got married. They forgot to mention the part where Suzette snitched on her sister because she liked Chris and was jealous of Selena’s happiness
Smh sad
I believe the series was produced by Suzette and it bothered me so much that she was so unsupportive of Selena and Chris yet she wanted support for her relationship. I wonder if that's part of why Selena and Chris' relationship was portrayed with so much drama.
Could be.
I CRIEDDD WHEN YOU SAID ‘so im supposed to take mr raccoon & ms possum & say awe’ 😭😭😭 AHAHAHAHAHAH

“he shows up later with a raccoon on his head” 🤣🤣💀💀💀💀
It failed because that girl doesn't have the acting ability to play selena and to me she looks nothing like her... jlo captured the essence of who Selena was, from the dancing, down to her mannerisms and her sweet personality... this girl tried too hard!
I saw the original movie when I was little. I didn't know who Selena was at all and the movie hooked me immediately. I watched it so many times.
It’s such a classic! And Jlo did Selena such justice that you couldn’t help but fall in love without even knowing her.
this was hilarious, and an actual great and very informative video! your voice so cute btw
Lol thank you! 💗
I love your video! The editing is everything! 💜
Thanks love 💗
I watched this after your review of never have I ever and nearly broke the subscribe button. Love seeing your analysis. It's poetry. 👌🏾👌🏾👌🏾
Lol that’s so sweet of you!! Thanks for subscribing love 💗
my mom liked it, probably because it played to her nostalgia since she grew up loving selena but we also haven't finished the show LOL and she kept pausing it to tell me about what happened irl during specific moments in the show
Mom came with the facts! Lol love it.
Chris should make his own series based on his book, the way he talks about Selena is like he's talking about a human being, with emotions. The family talks about her like she was some sort of divine being a Saint that did no wrong and always was happy, it feels fake. If Chris can't make a show he should just change the names and call it "fiction" or something there should be a loop somewhere so he can do it
This.
Yo what you said about the wigs had me dying because when I saw Julio Macias in that wig I almost passed out 😭 😂
He had one of the worst ones 😩😩🥴🥴
Down to the bone yooo .also you had me dead with this review I couldn’t agree more ! 😂😂😂😂😂
Lol glad you enjoyed! Thanks for watching love 💗
Not even half through the view and I'm already screaming "chile, who ARE you! " before you even said it 🤣🤣🤣Let me hit this subscribe button!

But they deadass had Beyoncé tell her mom “Be quiet”… in what world??? 😭 Ms. Tina would have sent Beyoncé to meet her maker if that happened like that lmao
that moment was so embarrassinggg lmao like why even include that
Listen! We KNOW how it really would’ve went. 😂😂
I laughed so hard with you!!🤣🤣 thank yoi for that. Im hooked now! Subscribing forever!
And I am eternally grateful! Lol 💗💗💗
I really like the series because it’s going to introduce a new generation to Selena. It’s definitely not perfect but i still enjoyed watching
Not the true Selena though
personally, i thought the show wasn't the best but wasn't the worst. the first season was awful but showed what selena was like as a childhood. the second season goes more into depth of her solo carrer. overall, 6.5/10 and i love when jennifer lopez did the role.
I’m glad you enjoyed it 💗
The series was okay but was more so about the family. It felt like Suzette and AB wanted to remind people they were more than back-up for Selena. And for their treatment of Chris, its appalling! They didnt even give him the courtesy of being involved with the series, and made it seem like he was jealous of Selena’s growing star power. But they ended up making Selena look like a diva who treated her husband like a roadie. This series is nothing but a cash grab for the family. Same with Aaliyah’s family. Making money off their deseased daughters and telling a narrative about them that was far from the truth! Selena and Aaliyah were more than just perfect little robots who did as they were told and performed when needed. They were human and I wish the series spent more time allowing us to see the passion and fire Selena had, how in control she was of her career and image, how she had goals and dreams beyond simply being a singer.
Also, its strange that Aaliyah and Selena were around the same age when they died, both were child performers, both had images that were sexual yet appropriate and both managed by their families, married young (Even tho Aaliyah was coereced into her marriage with Rkelly) and both had aspirations beyond singing. ( Aaliyah acting and Selena fashion designer) Plus, both had major hits before the age of 20 and paved the way for two of the biggest divas in music (Beyonce and JLo) Cause lets be real. Would Beyonce or JLo be as big as they are if Aaliyah and Selena were still alive?
I didn’t mind learning more about the band. I thought it was great but Selena definitely took a backseat to them in the series.
They absolutely made it seem like Chris was jealous of Selena and I really don’t understand why.
It’s funny you mention Aaliyah because her spirit and likability reminds me a lot of Selena. I think Beyonce would still be who she is, Jennifer… that’s up for debate. After all Selena put her in the map…
J-lo CAN’T SING though!!
The worst thing I feel about the series, besides the wigs, is that the Quintanilla family didn't include chris Perez at all. That was a slap in the face to him as well as Selena's memory, in my opinion. They both finally came to a legal agreement recently though. At least we have that. I agree with all your points as well.
What’s the legal agreement say? I need to look it up.
You’re hilarious lovin this commentary sis crying over herrre 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣💖💖💖

Exactly. A huge part of Selena’s life was her humor and love life and they butchered it. You can tell it was mostly the family who produced it. Especially in this series when Selena passes, it’s just a shot of Chris’s rolling over in bed LIKE WHAT ….
There's a reason JLo went on to become a superstar after Selena, & Christian's biggest roles before this have been as supporting characters in Ned's Declassified & Twilight. Casting is everything & the CD did not do a stellar job.
Yes. A great cast can make crappy work Oscar worthy.
Yes! You nailed it. I really think you gave a great review and did a great job pointing out the problems with the series. I also think that one of the issues with the series was that Netflix did not invest enough money into the series, it was obvious. There were certain scenes where the lighting was wrong, Cristian was just not even a decent dancer, and this is one of the reasons JLO did a great job because she was a real dancer. And so was Selena! And another very important thing to add was that Selena the movie was directed and produced by Chicanos/Mexican Americans. The series was done in Mexico by Mexicanos, no offense but I think that that difference also hindered the making of a genuine story of a Mexican American family.
This was definitely a low budget production. That in itself was disrespectful to Selena’s legacy.
I’M CRYING 😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Girl thanks for being so honest! And I was definitely picking up what you were putting down with the early actors!
And YASSSS to the movie review! When you go it, you got it!!!!
Listen, it had to be said lol thanks for watching love 💗
The fact that Christian didn’t even learn the songs properly had me angry! No stage presence, her dancing wasn’t good either, I tried to give it a chance, but it didn’t work.
They say that the early performances were done that way on purpose because Selena really struggled at first. But it never truly came to full form.
you put literally all my thoughts into this video perfectly. I wish Selena's dad could just let his daughter rest in peace instead of constantly trying to exploit her for money, its so unsettling. The series was very skewed...and it didn't help that the actor of Selena had none of the same qualities. I just hope one day Chris will be able to show his true side of the story :(
We NEED to see Chris’ story.
You took the thoughts right out of my mind with them wigsssssss! 🤣
😂😂they were terrible
They were AWFUL. You mean to tell me they couldn't come up with some more convincing looking wigs? Even IF their budget was low - There is tooooo much available in the area of hair care/wigs for them to have fumbled the ball like that. Those wigs were HIDEOUS...and budget isn't the reason...
It doesn't have to be THAT expensive to create a believable, complimentary hairdo.... 🤦🏾🤷🏽😭😂🤣 People do it all the time....so what is their excuse?
What do you use for editing?
Final Cut Pro X
I knew JLo had lived with the family but I didn't know John Seda lived with Chris or much less Edward Olmos hung out with the dads friends, like wow they really went all in!
They did their homework!
please watch the behind the scenes of the movie on youtube! you physically get to see how much they truly worked hard for this movie.
I think your critiques are right on target. What I found strangest about the series was that they have the character of Selena's father making so much noise about "protecting" his daughter, over and over, in so many scenes - but then he just lets Yolanda into her life! Bizarre.
Now that you mention it that is really strange. I wonder if it happened that easily in real life….Now I’m sitting here really thinking about it 🤔
@@TheBlushBunny Exactly. Who lets a crazy fan get that close to their daughter?
Never saw your channel but after this video, I wish to watch 5-7 more videos.
