Bruh, color me enamored. The amount of incredible analysis and hilarious editing on this site is almost absurd given how little attention a lot of its creators get. Congrats on such clean and clear content creation from the absolute ground up, it's mad impressive.
so happy to see such good analysis of true detective so many years later. great editing, jokes and videos as a whole. keep up the good work mate, much love
I think the fact that a lot of people don't find Lovecraft's writing scary has more to do how popular his mythos has become. Cosmic horror relies on the fear of the unknown and on what you don't see to terrify people. A world where C'thulhu plushies are a thing is obviously not going to be as shocked by Lovecraft stories as people were in the 1920s
You actually made me change perspective. I think you are right about this one - I can't tell for sure, but if Lovecraft were a complete unknown that I'd have found by accident, I might praise him significantly more. Thank you for calling me out on that, I consider that a favour.
@Noam-e3i rust seems to know who he is and doesn't deny himself any aspect of it. His job allows any darker aspect, an outlet that benefits society. Marty clearly doesn't know himself. No, Marty knows himself, but he's in denial, remember? He refuses to talk to his wife, as it would break the denial to himself. He would tell you he's not violent, while kicking some kids ass at any provocative. He wears the face of a family man, but he's really not that far removed from rust. You might say that's why rust annoys him so much, it's Marty without the mask. I always viewed end of the series Marty as a changed man. He realized who he was. He lied to the cops about who he was, but that doesn't mean he was still lying to himself. Something like your wife and kids leaving you might of force some personal introspection. I haven't read Jung, so that was my UA-cam level education view.
"Bloodborne is my favorite game!" Hellyeah. "I don't care about the lore" HOW. The story of bloodborne is so fucking good it's insulting saying that it's your favorite game just because you can spam R1.
Starting the second of your three part video with announcement of “Part Three” is pretty funny :) I really enjoyed this video, its rare to see unique take and look on such widely discussed show. Anyway, I think uppers make very good liars. The best ones. And HPL is king dont make fun of him :( (even tho youre absolutely right about him)
Organization and order are not my strongest suits, what can I say. I have mad respect for HPL (pun intended), and everyone who shares their insanity with the world. That's never easy.
It is honestly kind of wild that you love Bloodborne that much, are quite good at analyzing writing, yet are disinterested in lore in BB. The way Miyazaki strings together his worlds through lore is what makes the games so special beyond the fun gameplay in the same way that we are here now enjoying picking apart the intricacies of True Detective years later. I assume you've taken a look at some popular lore channels for Fromsoft games, but if you haven't, you seem like you'd actually really enjoy those rabbit holes if you give them a chance. Maybe not. Anyway, so far, you've got me wanting to rewatch this show yet again.
To be honest, I've played BB and DS at a time when I was way less into analysis. Perhaps playing them now, I would have seen more. Anyway, I have no doubt the lore itself is good, my complaint is more with how visible it is.
Technically Rust doesn't "have" a super ego. The super ego is the weight and pressure of society's values and expectations baring down on us all. We all share the same super ego. Not a critique, your point still stands, just mentioned out of interest. Great series BTW. Hope to see more.
Saul's putting on a brave face to spare Kim; he's suffering yet has the magnanimity not to pass it off on others-- what for all Saul knows is private, is known by Kim, whom is our stand-in in the moment (because we've all been there). 9:43 _It's corrosive, like acid ..."_ Rust's dead to the world, but not yet his departed wife and child. He'd be the last to admit it, but Rust is a zealous fanatic. His grief is generalized and coequal with The Problem of Evil. The Cult et. al. offends him on an aesthetic level and has to be wiped out, it's a purely Manichean grudge. Moral cowardice and 'by the book' mediocrity 17:00 are accessories to the crimes, hence 12:05. 11:31 Marty makes the same mistake as Rust did, when he didn't have a Marty to cover for him, there's no _judgement_ apart from losing a witness to get their cold case reopened. 18:00 _She just accepts Rust as collateral._ If anyone can keep a secret, it's him. His rage stems from personal weakness, then being tempted into no longer even being a faithful husband/widower. He didn't have much apart from that, and feels debased, like an animal in heat.
I just finished my 6th times watching TD season 1. Yes, I agree with you that Marty is boring character when in my 1-5 watch. But this time, I find Marty is also compelling character too. Maybe because I got older, hopefully I get wiser. I never struggle to understand myself. It was never an issue for me. And I think my younger self project that on Rust. That's why he was my favorite. But after meeting a lot of people and dealing with with a lot of them, knowing oneself is an art. And not everyone can master it. I never understood why there are people out there who keep making the same mistakes, looking for external validation, walking an empty shell... From watching Marty's arc, I learned new perspective. Also I like how in the end of the episode, Marty now listens. Actually listens and pays attention. Especially to Rust and they can have back and forth conversation (somehow leveling with him). When Rust (who has avoidant attachment) tells him to leave, Marty insists accompany him. Just chief kiss 🤌 series. I cannot believe it has been 10 years and this series is still relevant.
On the surface, Rust seems like the more developed character, but the writers didn't neglect Marty's character at all, but it's between the lines and, in retrospect, a lot more subtle.
Really enjoying your discussion of TD’s themes. Genuinely one of the most coherent articulations of why the metaphysics of that show are so deeply interesting. On my way to watch the rest in this series and whatever else you’ve posted! PS Something to bear in mind about Lovecraft that might give some perspective to his trademark narrative POV: he was catastrophically agoraphobic and xenophobic (ie racist as the day is long yahyah), so his internal voice would have translated pretty seamlessly to a trapped journaler in the process of transcribing the experience of ruminating over unspeakable horrors just on the other side of his door 😂
Amazing analysis, it's helped me to catch on things that i didn't get myself on the first watch! But the third video is blocked, is there any way to see it on another platform? I really want to see finale part
Thank you so much! I'm assuming you're residing in Germany? Theoretically VPN should solve that problem, but if you'd rather not use it I'll see if I can find another solution. I should get back to you in about 48 hours with a solution.
ua-cam.com/video/SAXuggYomRc/v-deo.html I made a version with the last seconds cut out. it's uploading now, so it should be available through the link in an hour or two.
This is excellent! If anyone wants an in-depth and *insightful* video on The King In Yellow you have to check out Flawed Peacock’s video. It’s a marathon, but worth every minute!
dude say what you want abotu hp lovecraft. Do not go to sleep and fall asleep in the middle of in the mountains of madness. I could swear that the king in yellow or something visited me and was in my room looking down on me. It was tall and thin and tattered clothing. Im not a person that is scared often but that fucking showed me. Just saying king but yeah for the most part it kinda is. But i like books that are liek a diary.
Stories that are scary enough to give you nightmares are rare. If that's what you enjoy reading, keep it up my dude. I've got no complaint to people who enjoy things I don't.
You have a point. I had the essay divided into five parts, then realized I need the video broken into three different videos. It is not a perfect division, I'm afraid.
well maybe you dont know this because you mightn ot have had a girlfriend. another thing thats going on with that scene with saul in that scene is him having to be strong.
Bruh, color me enamored. The amount of incredible analysis and hilarious editing on this site is almost absurd given how little attention a lot of its creators get. Congrats on such clean and clear content creation from the absolute ground up, it's mad impressive.
Again, thank you very much. This means more than you know.

Dude this series of your vids might be the best analysis ive seen on the tube, love it! Keep it up
Thank you so much for saying!
She doesn't freak out till he mentions the scars. Its the memory of Childress that she cant handle. The corruption of dark gods and all that.
You have a point. Between the mention of being made to watch and the screaming, she does mention "His face". I took some editorial freedom there.
Rust incorporated his shadow, Marty is in denial it exists.
I... I need to think about that one.
@Noam-e3i rust seems to know who he is and doesn't deny himself any aspect of it. His job allows any darker aspect, an outlet that benefits society.

8:20 makes me think of the good Mr. Borrelli.
Damn, you cooked! Really glad the video came up in the feed! Thank you!
Thank you for giving it a chance!

I didn't say that it wasn't good, I said that I don't care. And in my defence, I sometimes spam circle as well.
Hahaha, hearing you talk about Lovecraft made me think of my feelings about The Beetles.
Very valid.
Man mentions Bloodborne, my favorite game of all time, I’m hooked.
Come for the Bloodborne mentions, stay for the Lovecraft slander. Thank you!
The character at the end of Dagon committed suicide by jumping out the window. He isn’t escaping.
But you’re on point on cal else
I think I like your interpretation better than mine now. Thank you.

Great job Noam. Fantastic 👍
Thank you!
A kindred spirit. I too can find a way to make bloodborne comparisons in any unrelated conversation.
A dangerous hobby. I wish the fellow enthusiast good luck.
I dig it.
Great analysis man. Ignore the glue eater comments. I'm excited to check out part 3.
Thank you very much for saying!
Great Videos mate

I loved the Dunwich Horror and the Colour out of Space by Lovecraft. He's got some real gems hidden in the rough.
I respect that.

I agree with the PS - that's why I often advise my writing friends to get out more.
You can't just all him "Fred" a week later and expect that normal people will remember who you're talking about.

I really liked your first True Detective video, but it was when you said that Bloodborne is your favorite that I subscribed.
Thank you! Liking the same art... it seems to have a strong emotional effect.
"what they look like" NOT "how they look like"

Love the video! Great structure and editing
Thank you very much! It's a new art form for me, and it's very satisfying to see my attempts at putting something together being appreciated.

its a LIE!
@@zankfrappa93 You see, this is exactly the type of theme cohesiveness that I love seeing.
Um, Bloodborne and True Detective? Can we be friends? 😆😅
There is a deep bond of camaraderie between everyone who finished Bloodborne, much deeper than mere friendship.
Wait, you don’t care about the lore of bloodborne? Oh no.
I hope we can still be friends.
well maybe you dont know this because you mightn ot have had a girlfriend. another thing thats going on with that scene with saul in that scene is him having to be strong.
Bro, your take on Lovecraft is embarrassing
