Becky, I really enjoy your videos. I'm 67 and have been gardening and cooking my whole life. They are my favorite things. I've learned a lot of new things from your videos. I do have a suggestion about your garden. You mentioned taking the landscape fabric off before the winter but I would suggest leaving it on over the winter to prevent weed seeds from blowing onto your soil and then switch the fabric around in the spring if you need to.
This is how my dad showed love. He would look around for something he could tweak or trim and the next time he visited he would bring tools/ supplies. Just good memories. Dads Rock!
If it is clean up with soap and water= means it is water based. Means you can clean and re-use your rollers and brushes. It will be waterproof after it cures. The down side to this is that you may need to do this every year (depending on the weather in your area), It should be recommended on the can. It's a lot of work, but it is protecting your investment. An oil based stain sealer wont hurt anything because it is on the outside of the beds. And it will last 3 - 5 years. However- you can always put oil base over water base- but you can not put water base over oil base. The Bees wax (costly) is primarily used on the inside of the beds before you fill them. to protect the wood.
So nice of your Dad coming over to assist you. Asked my daughter at first to assist but her and her husbands helper helped me. He dug all our holes for our tomatoes then I went in and planted them. That was a huge reinforcement! What a team you two make. Just like You and your Mom in your kitchens. We at 91 degrees right now glad I got into my garden earlier when it was 85 degrees. LOL!!
I am in the High Desert of Oregon and have always started pumpkins. When the pumpkin starts grow to have 2nd set of leave I will transplant to 6” pot then to the ground. We alway have 100% success with this method… being gentle to not compress the roots during transplanting. Since we lack native pollinators, we manually pollinate to gain maximum yield. The anatomy is easily recognizable (male/female, human like 😉). Clip the male flowers and place in the female flower to Pollenate… Wishing you the very best with growth and I hope these tips are helpful.

I love watching your videos. I'm planning on turning my front garden to a vegetable garden - very rare in the UK. You working with your dad is just beatiful. I lost my dad 10 years ago (ironically 10 years tomorrow) my dad taught me all I know. Embrace these gorgeous times with your dad xx
Watching you with your dad makes me happy but makes me miss my dad more. I lost him back in 1985 😪. I was only 26. I worked in my gardens most of today but the wind came from nowhere and so bad we had to come in. Even the hens ran to their coop. 😄. Love watching them run 😄😄. I have just one raised bed made of big square stones. Holds the heat and my herbs go crazy. Already harvesting rosemary and dill. Love how your garden is. It was hard to imagine but THANK YOU for bringing us with you and watching the progress. You’ll be SO glad with a green house. We’ve had frost warnings the last 3 nights and I have row covers but the potted plants i just wheel them into the green house with what’s growing in there. Lots of room in the center lane 😁 I can definitively fill it. So much easier than in and out. Also, the way I harden off my plants is set them in a shaded area that the sun will hit- it is a gradual introduction
When I plant beans. Peas, melons, squash and cukes I try to soak the seeds in water overnight. It helps to soften that heavy covering for quicker sprouting.
Dear Becky, thank you so much for your videos. They always brighten my day. I’ve gardened for many years and one of the most useful things I’ve invested in is a Brother hand held label machine. When I get a new seed packet I straight away print out a label for the solid label stick. The labels are weather resistant and I’ve had some last several years. So easy to move from seed tray to individual pot and then to outside in the garden. Might be an idea for you in the future. It’s useful indoors of course too. Keep up the good work love. Ros x
I think you have a really great setup with these raised beds. Good amount of space between them, good sunlight. Another advantage to planting your taller crops on the back side of each bed is that it will make it much easier to harvest higher crops from the side where the ground is higher. Imagine having tomatoes or corn on the front side where the bed is super high… you would need a ladder to pick tomatoes 😂. If I had your setup I would totally plant bush beans along the front edges because you won’t need to bend much at all to pick them. 👍
Hi Becky, I am a recent sub to your channel. I used this same stain/sealer on my raised beds in Golden Cedar. It seems to be holding up well so far, and it really goes on easily. It is great that you had your Dad to help you, otherwise this would have been an overwhelming task to complete. I hope this stain/sealer gives us many years of protection, LOL!
So wonderful that you're making your dream come true!! Energy and creativity are YOU! I noticed you need a little something to help you carry miscellaneous from house to garden and vice versa. My suggestion is the iconic "little Red wagon". It comes with wooden sides for taller things and best of all, it'll transition to a toy for Baby Acre.
Loved seeing the shot of your entire garden. GIRL that use to be just fields of grass. It's so amazing the difference. Love seeing you growing your homestead. You have helped me learn so much. Between now and next year for my growing season im investing in the items for my growing shelf. I'm in a renal right now, as I look at houses my mind is focused on how can this house work as a homestead, where can I do my grow room, where can my back stock panty go and so forth.
I’m surprised you didn’t use a sealer sprayer to coat your beds instead of rollers or brushes. It’s like the sprayer you use to water your starter plants with. My hubby has one that he can control the spray width to put Thomas wood sealer on our wood porch. Afterwards he washes it out and let’s it dry before storing it away till we need it again. Makes sealing wood a lot faster and gets an even coat on the wood, plus easy clean up. Something to think about next time. You are indeed blessed with parents and in-laws that help you when you need them and it’s awesome you give them lots of credit for helping you! Garden beds look amazing!
I used mineral oil on my beds once after I set them up 10 yrs ago and they are still in great shape. I probably need to apply it again. You reminded me that it probably needs to be done soon. I use the landscape fabric that looks like what you used and I have some in the garden that I put out in 2020 and it still looks brand new. You are so blessed to have that fabulous garden space.
Becky, Home gardeners don’t really have to rotate crops every year. That’s for large scale farmers that really strip the soil by planting the same crop year after year. You’ll be just fine planting the same plants in your landscape holes for a few years. My grandparents planted enormous gardens every year in the same spot and never had trouble.
I was saying to myself “Bees wax” when you started. Then you said it later. That works good. But yours looks beautiful as well. You’ve just done so so much in such a short period of time. You are the real deal Becky. Love your channel. ❤️🙋🏻♀️
Hi there Miss Doe Eyes! I have been growing zinnias for decades and the best way is to direct sow the seed. You will so many beautiful blooms. Be sure to cut them often to encourage them to bloom even more! Another tip, put pulverized egg shells, banana peels, aspirin and some Epsom salt in each hole before you set out your tomatoes. It may be too late for this year, but note that for the future. Your videos really brighten my day and help me get motivated. Love from Kentucky!
She broke a egg in the base of each hole she dug for each plant. I do the same and add banana peel . But not Epson salt , hear good and bad about that. So I had some leftover potassium tablets I couldn't swallow, and( Dr. prescribed capsules instead). I ground them in my coffee grinder to use in soil for tomatoes, I also use it in my homemade Gatorade, waste not, want not . 😂
I'm doing it the other way: now my mom gets older, I help her a lot in her garden. We both love gardening, so it's an amazing way to spend time together and help her with all the heavy stuff she can't do anymore. This afternoon, I've pruned her conifers, and next week I'll help her weeding. It's my way off saying thank you for all the things she does for me when I'm ill and admitted to the hospital. And that happens quite a lot. I love her so much, and I am so grateful for her. ❤
Becky - You are so lucky to have a wonderful family. Your mother, your dad, your husband and family seem very supportive. I can't believe your son is almost 6 months. I bet he is adorable! He can eat food soon. Crazy how time flies. Praying for all of you to be healthy and well. Your garden is going to be very; beautiful.
I so agree on Generational blessings. You have been blessed by your parents and want to bless your children! Thank you Becky for sharing and let your dad know how he is recognized for his labor of love for his children . 👏👏🙏🙏👍👍
Greetings from Chicago, Becky! I cannot wait to see your garden producing and flourishing. Even at this early stage, everything looks wonderful. Here's to a very productive growing season. I love seeing you and your Dad work together. My Sister moved into her new house last weekend. Our Dad has been there every day since working on her electrical stuff and making sure it is safe and efficient while she works on putting the house in order. When I called today, they had their heads together looking for light fixtures. It made me happy to know my Dad was helping her. I treasure every Family moment. Even when I am not present. I can tell that you do as well. God Bless you and your Family. Happy growing!😊
Thank you taking the time to explain to us we could use beeswax to seal our beds twice, I wasn't sure I got it the first time. I also enjoyed you taking the time to explain to us how the sun, shade and trellisses work, because I wasnt sure. Im really happy you managed to get that clear protection and not a tainted one; mustve been one hell of a stress to know you could stain those rocks. That relief made my day ❤
I LOVE how much content you have been pumping out this spring! Everything is looking SO GOOD. I aspire to have a garden this tidy and beautiful in the future. You inspire me to do better in my own videos! Thanks for sharing! We always love to see dad on the channel!
Love your parents and how they help you! I also help whenever my grown 3 children need me! I have done the landscape fabric in my in ground garden for about 4 years now. I leave about 6 inches for the row(instead of burning holes) and it has helped with weeding immensely!
Ordered those bottles! Thanks for the link. I found out something I didn't know about scoby awhile back, the gelatinous thing is actually called a pellicle, technically SCOBY is the liquid, You only really need the liquid as starter, the pellicle isn't necessary to ferment a new batch. =) But it's fun to throw it in there. =)
For the future, my suggestion would be to put the sealer in a paint sprayer, since it is so thin. That would have made your job so much easier and faster. You can rent them from Lowes or Home Depot . Or buy one, they are not expensive. And girl, you need to ALWAYS wear a hat outside when you are gardening, even on a cloudy day.
The Beds That Are Done Look AMAZING 👍!!! They Look So Rich and Warm, Love Them!!! What A Fantastic Idea!!! Your Parent's Are Great 💕, They Raised A Wonderful Woman In You 🌟! Okay So That Strawberry Lemonade Look SOOOOO YUMMY 😋!!!!! My Mouths Watering!!! You Are AMAZING Girl 💫!!! Western Upstate New York here 💐
My God Becky…that’s a huge, huge garden! I can only wish….I’m glad you put down the fabric bc the weeding would be astronomical! I’m not sure if you mentioned in an early video, but is the amount of raised beds enough for growing food for a year? I can’t remember if you said that or not. When that comes to harvest it’s going to be just beautiful! It’s like a Solarium!! You could have people or children come and learn how to garden…Lol….just a thought that crossed my mind!! Lol….
What great progress in the development of your raised bed gardens. When you think of where they were at a few months ago and how much has been completed, it's truly amazing. That crew that you hired is doing such a great job.
Becky, I made your strawberry lemonade concentrate this spring with a flat of strawberries I bought from a local farmer.... we've been enjoying it with carbonated water. YUM! I've hidden it so it is a treat for my family rather than an everyday beverage 😉
Your parents are the BEST!! What a blessing. I contemplated sealing my raises beds when we moved here. Because my previous gardens at other homes were always pre-fab structures. However, I never did it. I now regret it. So, I think you're making a wise choice to protect your investment, in my opinion.
Want to add another message your right on the garden fabric, I’m understanding more things in your videos I’m learning to like you! I’m so proud of you! I just made homemade applesauce and peach jam!! Like you say SOOOOO GOOOOOODDD!! Getting ready to plant tomorrow tomatoes and jalapeños etc… I can call myself a gardener thanks to you!!
If anyone wants to send me stuff in the mail like Becky gets I would love the surprises. Becky if you don't want things you get send it my way. I have some people I work with that are in a Mental Health organization who need so much.
I love all the things🎉 I live in the city with a small container garden but I love all the food and homestead videos! I’ll be buying an electric canning device this year to start preserving small things. We are a family of 5, with 3 kids and busy schedules I love meal prepping and any shortcuts to ensure continuous home cooked meals is a bonus!! Plant on Becky!!!
Love your choice of a clear sealer for your garden beds. They look amazing. I love how your family chips in when needed. What a wonderful family unit you guys are blessed with.

Good to see your Dad again. Love the way the beds turned out. They look amazing. The garden is looking beautiful. Can’t wait to see it all complete and thriving! ❤️🙂🍓🌺🍅🥔
Becky, I really appreciate the effort you are putting in to get your garden going. My husband and I, who are not quite as young and you and Josh, are trying to get a garden going with some raised beds and it has been a real job. Not nearly as easy as it may seem. I know it will be beautiful when it's all finished, but I can tell that mine is like a tenth the size of yours, so I can only imagine the work that is being done to get yours going. It will pay off when it's all done. We will get some fabulous videos from you and learn a thing or three or four along the way. Thanks for another great video and I will see you next time. Have a fabulous day!
There is a product called garden box armor, a plant based wood sealer and it is a clear wood stain that is safe for vegetable gardens. Since it is plant based and a food safe clear stain for garden boxes, no toxic chemicals will seep into the soil.
Your Dad and Mom are amazing….cherish those memories…my father passed 20 years ago this June…and he was just like your Dad as always giving of himself to his kids. God bless you all!!
It is so cute that your dad helps you garden 😊. For pumpkin melons or squash seed, you can cut a little of the Edge (the round side )to help it the germination.
Love how your parents help you out as much as possible and that was a great idea of sealing the wood, your garden is looking great can't wait to see it all filled and growing
your dad is such a star to help out on the homestead, these projects are huge always good to have another pair of hands. wow so many done soon have them all done lovely things are coming along really well. Well done guys good job. xxx
I purchased a start of strawberry mint from a local green house this year. It’s a really unique plant it smells like ripe strawberries and tastes like mint with a tiny hint of strawberry. I’m excited to try it fresh in lemonade once there’s enough to harvest!
Question 🙋♀️ if the purpose was to seal the wood then is it really worth it if you didn’t seal the inside? I would think it would do more harm since water can’t evaporate from both sides I do think sealing would be beneficial but only if done on all sides. Right?
If you get time, can you post the Vanilla buttercream recipe from the recent berry cake? My daughter's birthday is the 27th, and we'd love to try it! Thanks! 💕
I love when your parents are with you in your videos. I see where you get your beautiful personality. You give me motivation to keep building my garden.
That's the same brand that gardener supply uses on the veg's trugs. We have had one for 8 years and with moving last year decided to reseal the bed since we have to empty it anyway. Made the bed look like new and we anticipate getting at least another 3-4 years from it all because of the sealant. Good luck!
I would totally leave the landscape fabric down over the winter, I don’t understand what you would take it up? Love this video, you are very fortunate to have your parents help so much! 😊
If you think 70°F is hot, come to south La where the humidity is high along with temps in the high 90's & low 100's. Both combined & you can't breath & thank God for air conditioning. I'd love for it to be 70°F all of the time. We don't wear long sleeves much in the summer, it's way too hot. Where is your little one, it's like he doesn't exist. 🤔🥺
U have an awesome dad, u r a really lucky young woman! My father pasted away when I was only 17. He loved his gardening and so I missed out on all his expertise.
I love watching you and your dad work together. You are a close family and thats wonderful for you and your little guy. Thank you for sharing this now I will be sealing my beds
Pam here…. When our boxes came, we used a similar product and used a sprayer to spray inside and out before filling them. Then we painted the outsides white with the top flat edge brown. Im legally blind and the white contrast helps me locate my boxes which are numbered in my head and what is in each of them.
Becky that landscape fabric will easily last 6 or 8 years if its not exposed to direct sunlight. Never had issues with cutting unless using a dull box cutter. One clip then shears or kitchen scissors. So great you found that sealer. We were told to seal on year 2 with cedar or teak. It breaths first year and dries a bit. Beautiful weather there. Everything going in ground this weekend.
Unfortunately to make your raised beds last longer you needed to apply the sealer to the inside before the soil was added. That way the moisture from watering will not soak into the wood and be trapped by sealing the outside of the wood.
Becky you should be able to use that landscape fabric for 5 years or more! I have fabric that’s 3 years old and has been left outside all year and thoroughly abused. It’s still in great shape and definitely usable. And it looks like we have the same fabric. 😊
You have applied a film-forming sealer on the outside of the wood & it is going to peel, plus if it was a clear sealer the wood still isn't protected from UV rays. Ideally you would let new wood weather for a year, pressure wash it, then apply a semi-transparent stain. You would probably need to clean and re-apply every few years. You could also buy a pump sprayer to spray on the stain and use a roller to back roll the excess off - that will help the task move quicker. My husband does a lot of restoration so this is all from experience and research! Love watching your videos 🙂
Yes, could you please put the directions for the strawberry/lemonade. Your garden is going to be amazing! Can’t wait to see it growing and bearing vegetables.
I'm making jams for a Farmers Market while watching this video today. Your garden looks beautiful Becky , glad you have help with this huge project 🖤🖤🙏🏽🇧🇸

Hi how are you doing my friend ?
Your appreciation for your dad brought tears to my eyes. You, and your family are a blessing to so many people! ❤
Hello how are you doing my friend
Same for my grandad here in Texas. He might switch where he put items but it was pretty much the same stuff year in and year out.
I was saying to myself “Bees wax” when you started. Then you said it later. That works good. But yours looks beautiful as well. You’ve just done so so much in such a short period of time. You are the real deal Becky. Love your channel. ❤️🙋🏻♀️
Love that you get to work with your parents. Cherish them while you can. Oh, I know you do, it shows!! Love how the garden is coming together.
The garden looks great. Great planning job planning it out. I just love how close your family is. Happy gardening everyone
Your dad is such a blessing. Thanks for sharing about the VOC’s.
Becky your garden beds look amazing..the sealer really enriched the cedar...I love your parents they are such a blessing to your family..Hugs
miss doe eyes is such a cute and accurate compliment!
I use Epsom Salt as well! Zinnias are gorgeous, and the deer don't mess with them. Love the nickname you call Becky❤
Becky, another thing you can use to seal wood is linseed oil. It's complely natural and would be a good thing for use on garden products.
👏👏🙏🙏👍👍
Love your dad!! What a beautiful experience it must be having such a loving dad!!!!!❤
Enjoy your adventures…your Dad is a wonderful treasure to help you. Love seeing you wearing your cute hat again.
Hello
Your garden is looking gorgeous!! I'm so excited to see it in full bloom!! You've inspired me to actually grow some herbs for my food.
Hello how are you doing my friend
Loved doing projects with my dad....he's gone now, treasure the time you have with your loved ones. It's precious! Thanks for sharing!
So nice to have your dad come round and be able to work on the garden together :)
I love seeing how your parents support you in both your garden and kitchen. Cherish these moments with them. God bless your beautiful family!💗🪴🌺
Love your choice of a clear sealer for your garden beds. They look amazing. I love how your family chips in when needed. What a wonderful family unit you guys are blessed with.
Thanks Becky for sharing your garden projects with us! ❤❤❤ A great big shoutout to your dad. He is the best! ❤️
I second your comment. Awesome Dad & Mom 🙆♀️❣
My Mom passed away September 5th 2022. She's missed, but she's finally pain free & for that I thank our Holy Almighty Messiah for His tender loving mercies know no bounds towards His flock😊 🙌❣
Maranatha ❤ 🐑 🩸🩸🩸✝️ 🤍🕊👑 💫 🙌
@@robynm7221 I’m so sorry you lost your mom. I lost mine too in September 2022
Good to see your Dad again. Love the way the beds turned out. They look amazing. The garden is looking beautiful. Can’t wait to see it all complete and thriving! ❤️🙂🍓🌺🍅🥔
Would it have been easier to coat the wood before creating the raised boxes? Just wondering!
Hi Becky. Your parents are such happy and wonderful people. I love the progress.
You are such a hard worker. And yes what a blessing your parents are! Love seeing mom and pop pop
Becky, I think it was very smart to seal those cedar beds. They really are the prettiest raised beds I’ve ever seen!
Your Dad and Mom are amazing….cherish those memories…my father passed 20 years ago this June…and he was just like your Dad as always giving of himself to his kids. God bless you all!!
I’m so grateful for your channel Becky AND it’s cool you’re local!❤
I love seeing a healthy father daughter relationship. Your parents so so cool!
It is so cute that your dad helps you garden 😊. For pumpkin melons or squash seed, you can cut a little of the Edge (the round side )to help it the germination.
Hi Becky, WOW! Your progress is amazing! Many thanks to your wonderful parents for all their help😊❤
Love how your parents help you out as much as possible and that was a great idea of sealing the wood, your garden is looking great can't wait to see it all filled and growing
It makes me smile to see you and your dad working together.
I love that youre following your instincts so much this garden season! I learn so much from you!
The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. You are such hard workers. You have wonderful role models Becky. God bless.❤
your dad is such a star to help out on the homestead, these projects are huge always good to have another pair of hands. wow so many done soon have them all done lovely things are coming along really well.
Im so impressed how far you have come on the new place! and a new baby too! you go girl!
Next time, use pump garden sprayer for applying stain, then brush. Love your family support.
Question 🙋♀️ if the purpose was to seal the wood then is it really worth it if you didn’t seal the inside? I would think it would do more harm since water can’t evaporate from both sides
I do think sealing would be beneficial but only if done on all sides.
Looking fantastic out in the garden. I miss being able to do projects with my dad, he's been gone 10 yrs this year.
That's really smart. We did the samething but I only have 3 raised beds. WELL DONE! Kombucha looks so great.
Thank you Becky. I love how your parents are so willing to come and help you. So lovely ,bless them xxx
Hi Laurie
I love watching you and your dad work together. You are a close family and thats wonderful for you and your little guy. Thank you for sharing this now I will be sealing my beds
Pam here…. When our boxes came, we used a similar product and used a sprayer to spray inside and out before filling them. Then we painted the outsides white with the top flat edge brown. Im legally blind and the white contrast helps me locate my boxes which are numbered in my head and what is in each of them.
Thank You Becky’s Dad for helping and doing a great job 👏 hope you both enjoyed lunch 🥰🥰
BRING IN THE REINFORCEMENTS!! I love to see the projects that your family and friends help you with! So wonderful!❤❤
You also shouldn't seal new wood the first year it is used!
That's great, so happy you went ahead and sealed your beds. Glad you had the heat to help dry them quickly, as well.🌻🌼🌱
Becky you should be able to use that landscape fabric for 5 years or more! I have fabric that’s 3 years old and has been left outside all year and thoroughly abused. It’s still in great shape and definitely usable. And it looks like we have the same fabric. 😊
You are so blessed to have your Dad to help you. Your family is filled with love and generosity. ❤😂🙏
Becky you looks so cute in that hat!! I love how you and your Dad work together. You are full of your vision and you work so hard to complete it. Love watching your videos!!!😅😊❤❤❤
