Our Dad, has passed away from a long and cruel desease. His funeral was today. We chose this music to say goodbye. This piece helps us in our grievance. RIP † Dad
Brahms had read this. 1 Peter 1: 24 "For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: 25 But the word of the Lord endureth for ever."
I only wish to one day live a long, loving, graceful life so then my children will lay me to rest with such a beautiful piece. Condolences and blessings to you and yours
Whenever I need to be reminded of how incredibly beautiful the world can be, I come back to this piece and others that I find so meaningful, and all is well.
Wholeheartedly agree. The first time I heard it was in the early 90s with Slatkin conducting St. Louis. This was the tempo he used. It breathes so well this way. Other versions are too rushed.
If there ever was a place where melancholy and joy met it had to be in this movement by Brahms sure Rhapsodous Bliss eargasms of solemnity Brams was not only a genius. He was a genius of the heart knowing what rapturous odes the heart, and mind could barely stand.
What makes this piece for me is not only the luscious main melody but also the "counter melody" in the celli and later in the bassoons. Brahms is and will always remain one of my favorite composers. What a genius he was!
I fell in love with Brahms’ Violin Concerto, then his first Piano Concerto. I was nineteen in college attending the Buffalo Philharmonic series and Brahms was a go to guy. Lush harmonies, heart melting melodies and incredible section playing. I was smitten and never recovered fully. I wondered in all musical directions - Wagner, R Strauss, Mahler but always back to a Brahms, Schumann and Schubert. They are the center of my musical universe. I am forever grateful for his deep love of harmony and luscious, flowing melodies. I think Clara loved them, too
The first time that I listened to this Symphony was at my parent's home, and the appreciation of its music when I was young and now is the same: This is one of the most emotionally compelling pieces that I have listened to.
Wow this was excellent, my other choice was Barbarolli. I wanted to hear this movement for some reason at this time. Then I remembered how much I had played the viola in orchestras over the years and I always looked forward to Brahms. the part is not technically that difficult, but it is tricky with the syncopations constantly, always off the bar line.then you have to fit your part with others cuz its like a rich tapestry of notes all intertwined and interlocked. he makes the climax these rich 9th chords, first time loud, 2nd time quadruple piano, the quietest part of the entire symphony. third time is different harmony leading to this great 9th chord with almost every note of the scale in it. dont think Brahms is traditional, he has his moments where he sees the future. austrian kids here did great, there is a woodwind entrance in the middle with all the winds in unison and almost every recording i have it is out of tune. i always notice when it is in tune, f minor not so easy on the winds and brass, its hard for them to tune the chords it is done so well here, horn did her solo nicely and i love a clarinet who bounces around in his chair, thats how he controls his air, good job. intonation excellent, that must be a tough school there, rigorous training produces excellent sounds. languid, thats the word, whenever i feel languid i think of this, autumnal is the other word. the melody is so fluid and languid, love this movement.
I enjoy listening to recorded versions of classical music, but there’s nothing like watching and listening to a live performance of a beautiful piece of music.
I came to this beautiful symphony in sort of a backward way. I LOVE the Santana/Dave Matthews cut of Love of My Life....searched for its origin....just wonderful ❤
Respectueusement. Roland
Maravilhosa a Sinfonia número 3, terceiro movimento do incrível mestre, Brahms!
I've been looking for this music for many years. I first heard it in the film, Angel Face, with Jean Simmons and Robert Mitchum. I don't recall the details of the movie, but it had a sad ending...with this music being played.
This piece is incredibly beautiful, it nearly brought me to tears. Im not very familiar with Brahms repertoire, but this convinces me i need to research it.
So lovely, so sad. Used in the film. "Goodbye Again with Ingrid Bergman. Can't remember what actor played opposite her. Anybody remember? (It WAS Ingrid Bergman wasn't it?)
This was extraordinary concert and performance. Why not create a dvd of this masterful performance and put it on the market? Europe does it. Or is culture in the USA declining like our politics?
"Te das cuenta, Martin, la cantidad de sufrimiento que ha tenido que producirse en el mundo para que haya hecho música así? " Ernesto Sabato Sobre héroes y tumbas pag. 36
I feel some sadness in this piece, maybe linked to some memories from the past, or something that could've happened, but it didn't... Nevertheless, is fantastically beautiful.
Descr says "University of music etc". That not sound right. Someone help me..... Who is this orchestra and conductor? Do they have regular venue? They are very good.

Puts me in tears every time
I agree
Whenever I need to be reminded of how incredibly beautiful the world can be, I come back to this piece and others that I find so meaningful, and all is well.
Exactly my thoughts.
So do I.❤❤❤
I know Brahms was thinking about love ( past, present and future) maybe for Clara. that is why it is one of the most heartfelt music ever written. .
Sideways sent me here...I've never left, only remorsed I cannot hear this again for the first time and be in awe.
My mother and I used to always connect to each other with this symphony...I love you mom..and I miss you ❤
This is the right speed. Many made it too allegro.

I completely agree . Seeing it played adds another dimension of enjoyment
This has got to be one of the most beautiful compositions I ever heard. Haunting melody. Absolutely overwhelming.

This is not classical, it is romaticism
@@kaziKazitu not true. While Brahms composed in the Romantic period, his works are very much in the classical style.
The first time I heard this was in a live performance. I was absolutely stunned.
@@heilettelabuscagne403 I totally agree.
Such beautiful music, and wonderfully interpreted... Bravi!
I can not listen to this movement withour crying. Especially with this performance. ♥️
Beautiful and so romantic feeling comes to mind……and melancholy at the same time…

Extraordinary playing of a much beloved movement in the classical repertoire.

Terrific performance by a student orchestra! Bravo!
Tchaikovsky's second movement of his fifth symphony is also as heart wrenchingly gorgeous.

The guitarist Santana was inspired on this melody to created the song "Love of my life" both are beautiful
I’ll have to listen to that. I love Santana. Thanks.

They listened to this in "The Odyssey " ... a film about Jacques Cousteau.
