Many free and paid imaging programs now offer plate solving and automated centering for goto scopes (sequence generator pro, backyard eos/Nikon, Astro live USB, etc.). It takes the hassle out of astrometry while still utilizing their server. Depending on the application, it negates the need for accurate star alignment (but still requires accurate polar alignment for non-field-rotated images). I like your videos. Cheers!
Bit late this :) I wouldn't be able to work without it Graham. I always check it now before setting my gear up. If it's not working (which happens) I don't bother to set up. That can be a little frustrating considering how many clear skies we get! :)
I've found all your tutorials so informative & helpful. I really appreciate the effort you've taken.
Thanks very much. Not so much this one, which was out of date shortly after it was published 😁
Great video. Astrometry is such a good find. It allowed me to find the double cluster in Perseus. Thanks.

Brian Schneider Thanks Brian. Yep, I use Cartes du Ciel, eqmod and astrotortilla myself these days. This vid was back in the day 😊

Thanks Doug. Interesting stuff. I didn't know that was a service that is available :)
Hi, do you have an updated version of this tutorial ? Or is there a software I can download like this up to date ? Thanks
So sorry I missed this comment. Not that I'm aware of
