The point is to learn how to master the tools. Not to necessarily change the color of a car. Knowing these tools will help you learn the approach to tackle advanced problems that the color replace tool won't be able to touch.

The problem with this tutorial is, if I need to make a brighter color with more saturation, it does not work well. At least in my case. I don't know what I am doing wrong. It creates all sorts of massive pixels when I increase saturation to match the color. His color in the video matched excellent. I have to use saturation to even get close to the color I am aiming for. It's a brighter blue.

To learn to use photoshop is to understand photoshop, why is it like that, why does it work in this way, it's very easy to see this tutorial and learn to change a colour to that car but 90% of people who watch this video do not understand why it works like that. An explanation as to why it works like this would be very helpful, once you understand it why, it's very hard to forget. Without understanding it, it's very easy to forget it. It's like saying, press that button on this machine and this button and this button to make this and press this button and this button to make that and you write it down on a piece of paper and you go ahead and do your job but you have no idea why you need to press those buttons. Now imagine one day somebody comes and shows you why, and stays with you one day, one week, one month until you know it well, I don't think you gonna need your paper anymore. You will know what to press and why. No tutorial here explains it WHY , they only say do that and do that and do that, for a normal person without photoshop knowledge it doesn't make any sense, why did the colour of the car changed it's a mystery !

VERY sound advice about learning the tool and not a specific technique. Learn the principle and you've solved problems before you have them. I tell people this about music. Don't learn a song; learn the theory behind the song and all 12 keys and you can play that song and many more. I wish someone would have given me this advice when I first started self teaching Adobe products.

I think graphic design is such a vast subject that it is not possible for a teacher to cover each and every part of it. In fact we learn what was not taught, when we come across a problem with no help. In my opinion self study is best way to learn and get your issues solved. In my 25 years of career still there are issues that happen and I have to find solution to work.
