- [Hi-Fi Stereo] The late, and absolutely great, John Prine appears in Dublin, Ireland, with his band of that period in time. They include Marty Stuart on mandolin, Philip Donnelly on guitar, Rachel Peer on bass, Martin Nolan on keyboards, Peter Robinson on steel guitar, and Tony Newman on drums. For the final number, Lyle Lovett joins in.
Best version ive heard of this amazing song. Original video was deleted so glad i found this one. Band killed it
John Prine is new to me. I heard the album version and man. There is a stark difference. I much prefer this.
Wonderful, thanks. I never knew Marty Stuart played in Johns band.
It was a group put together for the sessions in Dublin, largely orchestrated and produced by Philip Donnelly.
Marty was not part of John's band, I don't think John had anyone at that time except Rachel and Philip.
Cowboy jack Clement,Kyle Lovett, Don Everley and others hit Dublin for those shows. Good times. ❤
What a band! Remember seeing the full concert on TV, I think it was Channel 4 who showed several of the shows from The Point, Dublin.
The guitarist Philip Donnelly was responsible for putting on a series of excellent concerts.
Philip remains one of my favourite guitar players, nobody sounds quite like him. It's well documented that he played with artists such as the Everly Brothers, Johnny Cash, Nanci Griffith, Townes Van Zandt, John Prine etc but check out his exceptional contributions to the Lee Clayton albums 'Border Affair' and 'Naked Child'.
The drummer (Tony Newman) on this John Prine show also played on the Lee Clayton albums.
John Prine was/is an American Treasure!
Big Love for John 🙏 from France. You were just amazing. As I listen to you, as I think you were the best amongst the best
You should have mentioned the bass player, Rachel Peer; she was also a terrific harmony singer, and was JP's wife at the time; may she RIP, too.
Excellent version. Love it!
I met Philip playing with Donavan, then he made John famous..(I just found this out) He also played w Don Williams..He played Hurdy Gurdy Man live w Don Leitch thanks for this..Aloha!
Thanks for the info, and happy you enjoyed the clip(s)!
Only guitarist who could make his Strat sound like a lap steel, great talent gone far too soon. RIP Phil and John.
