- A few weeks ago, just for a lighthearted experiment, we posted a poll on NYSORA's community asking who excels more in anesthesiology: MEN or WOMEN. The intention wasn't to promote any specific agenda, especially in this era of diversity and inclusion; there's no way you'd catch us taking sides, no matter the incentive!
However, it's clear from the feedback that we unintentionally stirred up some strong feelings (just check out the comments on LinkedIn and UA-cam).
While anesthesiology societies trumpet their advocy for diversity, the responses to our poll revealed interesting opinions. Some were all for female anesthetists, crediting them with exceptional skills, while others believed men are more attentive. A handful even painted women as more emotional and men as somewhat sloppy. What's evident from the reactions is the existence of strong biases and preferences.

Cool video, My relationship of 5 years ended a month ago. Anesthesiologist is just Anesthesiologist its beyond gender discrimination

As an anesthesiologist, it clearly depends on the individual person. Does not matter whether male or female. If a man or woman admits to being better at a profession just for the sake of their gender, that tells me that person went into the field for all the wrong reasons and is only looking for recognition. I personally do not care about recognition and I prefer when people call me by my first name, not Dr. This is because to me it is more important to have a strong close knit relationship with my colleagues and patients based on trust and not hierarchy. The women in the video saying women are better clearly have no self awareness because they are telling that to one of the best anesthesiologists, Dr. Hadzic, who is a MALE.

I think that, firstly, in some 90% of cases there will be no differences at all, doesn't matter, who is the anesthesiologist and even if this is "good"/"bad" doctor. And there is no difference between men and women regarding to who is better, the only difference that I feel, is that women are expected to do more to be considered good enough. But it's not about some biological differences.
ofcourse its a great profession for women . I salute Catherine for her acheivements !
Men unequivocally
I have worked in all departments of lots of hospitals, you get good men, you get good women, then you get clowns.
Men are heroes.
Women are superheroes.

Firstly. Medicine/anaesthesia is not a contest. The whole “which group is better” discussions are really pointless and tiresome and only continue to feed division in my opinion. When you think one group or individual is “better” than another then it just feeds to egos. Patients only care about the outcome. The saying “you are only as good as your next anaesthetic” is really what matters. You might think or be told you are the top dog. But if your next patient has a bad outcome, then you are mud to them.

Wow, I think at the very least this may well patronise a lot of women. Can you imagine doing this with race or sexuality “just for the kicks”? Also the implication that raising children is somehow something that men do not need to consider in their careers is just embarrassing. Stick to regional anaesthetics NYSORA (though your IV access vids are also very good)
I know this is embarrassing for a doctor to post.
Its not about being a man or woman it’s about the education you’ve gotten, how experienced you are and how much you care for / want your patient to be as comfortable as possible during the surgery. Men and women can both be good at anything as long as your have the correct education and will to be good as your job

Entre otras cosas no creo se trate de un tema vaginal o peneano. Trabajo con excelentes compañeras. Y hay hombres que muchas veces son una verdadera patada en el culo. Ellas no se sienten disminuidas en ningún instante cuando se trata de pedir ayuda; como yo lo haría. Pero los machos tienen esa “arrogancia” que a veces nos los dejan avanzar. Que hay chicas que en algún momento son peores? También me ha pasado. Que yo soy a veces una patada en el culo? También. Al final debo decir que me quedo con ellas.
In the pursuit of who is better,women have overburdened themselves and have put aside their primary role of raising the humanity.
Women are and can excel in any field,but, by going into a comparative narration isn't gonna help humanity.

I'd like to hear (for kix) what all these very same persons who have shared their own opinions, if they think drs are superior to nurses, or surgeons better than physicians 😂 such unproductive things we out fire to. ...just like debates on racisim...there's only one race...The human race. I absolutely believe that women are better anesthesiologists ..
This is so stupid especially asking the questions within a male dominated profession of course you will get biased answers. But whatever makes men feel better about themselves i guess?
No way that women are better, they have hormones that changes by seconds not days. 😂😂. May be they are more serious and thinking over, but patients have more confidence in men as in obs-gyn. Men show more confidence when taking the responsibility.
