    Recently I have been using some superb little maggot imitations called Trabucco Slurp Maggots, they are great for targeting juvenile perch in the margins when the canal is very coloured because of heavy boat traffic and I've even had roach and rudd on them

    I had my first BFS outing the other day, quite interesting learning how to cast small lures on the baitcaster (used to doing it with bigger lures).

      It’s definitely a nuanced method. The quality of kit makes a much bigger difference at this end of the spectrum. Casting 1-2gm lures with something like an Aldebaran for the first was a bit mind blowing for me 🤯

      I got new bfs set-up this year, been out about 7 times this year 2-3hr sessions and haven't caught a perch yet! Catching jack pike but no perch yet, I really don't know what I'm doing wrong maybe I need to slow down the retrieve or something? I fish lakes that have little to no pressure from other anglers. They're large farm ponds I suppose they do have perch in them I've seen and caught them before on bait, hopefully they'll start feeding properly soon or I won't have any hair left!

      It can be very tough getting a perch bite this time of year. I’ve found them in deep water but our canals are pretty empty (I’m sure they’re not but the fish aren’t biting!)
      Slow Ned rigs may give you a chance of a bite, paused on the bottom.

    Very frustrating trying to catch roach on lures . Its easier mid to late spring to early mid summer . They are a lot more agressive then i find . Had them following my lures today and nipping the tail but i could not get them to take the hook . Today it was let the lure drop and then straight retrieve for 5 seconds to get them to bite or nip the tail of my lure . Yesterday i had roach out on lures but a totally different retrieve . Erratic shaking the tip while retrieving with no drop . The minute the i let the lure fall , the roach turned away . Yesterday was a pink cut down aji pintail that they wanted . Today was a red rubber bloodworm . Caught a nice perch nearing 2lb trying to catch the roach today . Made up for my roach frustrations . At least with bream you can tell if they are interested in lures or not when targeting them . I find roach will still follow . Its very annoying . Great vid . Keep at it .

      Absolutely agree, fishing for Roach on lures is really testing my patience, in a good way though.
      My next attempt is going to be surface lures, or at least something with a much slower sink rate. I’ll look into the pink pintails, I think those on a 0.4gm jig head could do very well.
      The up side is that catching perch,by comparison, is really quite straightforward 😁 (I hope I haven’t just jinxed myself!).

      Hi, thank you. I use these lure boxes from Todber manor; todbermanor.co.uk/bags-storage/8681-meiho-light-game-case-j-4963189913997.html
      Meiho Light Game Case, awesome bit of kit.

    What breaking strain of flourocarbon do you use to save you from the occasional pike?

    • @reellures2770
      @reellures2770  Рік тому

      Hi, if I’m fishing ultra light I do use 8lb fluorocarbon. I’ll go up to 20lb fluorocarbon but if i do intend using a spinner or something I know pike will hit then I use 12lb titanium single wire trace. I’ll have that on a micro swivel and a fly lure clip.
      I’ve landed 10lb pike with no issue and it doesn’t put off the perch bite.

    Hi what lure clips are you using here please

      Hi, I use small fly fishing clips. An example on the link below. I go as small as I can with these, usually 5mm if I can get them.
