I think it makes perfect sense in a way. Before the occupation the Bajorans were peaceful and deeply spiritual people who as whole preferred to be priests, farmers and artists. Afterwards they were changed as a society so more people became soldiers, jaded politicians and highly protective of the freedom and ideals, can you imagine who Shax’s might have been if not for the cardassians? Admittedly he is shown to love being a bad ass security officer (the day he died fighting the Pakleds shows how much he is enjoying himself, he literally shouts “THIS IS THE GREATEST DAY OF MY LIFE” 😂) but his hobbies and off duty time show he can be a patient and sensitive individual who enjoys sculpting. Sorry for the long comment but DS9 is my favourite trek and Shax’s is my favourite lower decks character so I over think things 😅

It’s a bit hard to explain because although soldiers don’t really want to go to war or risk death they also spend a lot of time training and perfecting their skills. There is also an odd pride to say that you went out and did your job, there is also the recognition people get for having earned a medal for going on operations. I’m not sure if I can explain it properly but a lot of servicemen and women want to prove their worth and people who have will more often than not take great pride in it.

The Kzinti, much like the Pakled, ironically, are another example of why it's very, very dangerous to give a race advanced tech they aren't culturally ready for.

It's just an opinion, but silliness done right is essential to any fictional universe. Problem is, most assume you just throw a total buffoon in and make them annoying, which then is supposed to make said character a punchline. Here, we get something that makes for a good personality quirk that proves surprisingly relevant.
Furthermore, I like when they build on the joke so it's not JUST a cat joke. Like how Doctors make the worst patients. Add that on to Cats hating the vet, and you've got a grand old time.

Back in TNG, this caused communications problems as their speech was translated literally by the universal translator instead of conveying the actual meaning. By the time of Lower Decks, this issue has been mostly resolved, but some metaphors slip through. In this case, Karno was probably someone who had a notable moment of insanity or confusion. Incidentally, Karno is also referenced in the phrase "Karno in the forest with Mira," which refers to overeating or weight gain. Boimler accidentally insulted Kayshon when he tried using this phrase as a show of good faith.

I just remembered that episode from The Next Generation when the crew got infected with a mutating virus (used to cure Barclay of one disease only to trigger a mutation in everybody), and Deanna Troi devolved into a species of FISH!!! Betazoids evolved from fish!
I kinda like how they slowly walked Shax’s personality back from season one. It wasn’t just a sudden change but a result of events throughout the series.
I’m getting serious Finding Nemo vibes where Bruce the Great White Shark gets a whiff of Dory’s blood, and pretty much behaved EXACTLY like Dr T’ana did here! (Fell back to their primal instincts and tried to go after prey)

I'm not really a Star Trek fan, but all the clips I've seen of this show make it seem rather interesting. This specific show, not Star Trek as a whole. I don't have anything against Star Trek, I just grew up as a major Star Wars fan and found that Star Trek just doesn't do it for me.
Used to be the same way. As I got older I came to respect and even like Trek. To the point I consider it a "second home". But I'll always prefer to be behind the stick of a T65.
