- Here's everything you need to know about DJI's new Avinox system and the DJI Avinox & Amflow PL Carbon Pro bike, hands-on from Eurobike.
I dive into the DJI Avinox system, the DJI Amflow PL Carbon, PL Carbo Pro, and how these bikes differ from existing eMTB bikes on the market, both in terms of pure ebike metrics, as well as other components like DJI's action cam and drone tech stuffed into the insides.
This includes components like the display, pairing to heart rate monitors, app integration with Strava, etc...

Is there a person more perfect to review this device than Ray!? Like, who else exists in the middle of the Venn diagram between "DJI drone" and "Cycling"

@@Dcrainmaker Brilliant 😂
@@Dcrainmaker Well done!
Anyone who would weight it them selves would be better.
@@10FilipI think Sam did. Plus he's an actual mountain biker.
One thing worth adding to highlight how unique this bike is… its weight. At the 19-20kg point, that’s considered a light weight bike - the competition in this weight class typically have 400wh batteries and 50-60nm motors. The Cannondale motorra sl, the Orbea rise 2025, and there’s a giant too, all have full power (85nm) in a light bike - but they’re outliers. This is, on paper, in another league!
Indeed, totally meant to add that in in titles, but fell off the plate.
Very few ebikes allow for battery replacement which is an anti repair and consumer nightmare.
Nevermind not being environmentally friendly
@@stuartburns8657 Which ones?! All the bikes I've looked at, they're removable - most you have to take the motor out.
@@stuartburns8657I don’t think that’s true. You can slide the batteries out. They’re usually on two rails inside the frame.
@@peakproofuk the other chap seemed to think the same. I've obviously re-read / misunderstood at somepoint
Always enjoy Ray enthusiasm when reviewing bikes, action cameras, drones and bike computers etc
Thanks something to look forward to this fall
Keep up the great work
DJI makes incredible products. One of the best Chinese based companies who is actually innovating on a regular basis
Great video mate! Keep up the interesting reviews! Not many people have done a review on this yet so you’re ahead of the curb!
DJI alone moved forward the industry by at least 5 years. I’m pretty sure about it. B and S would at least would took 5 years to introduce 125nm motor and a battery which is 30% denser in energy.
I talked to dji, because I am interested in their motor as a bike manufacturer. They were pretty open about "Avinox" just being a made up brand, that they developed to make the motor experiencable. They intend to sell these bikes but the purpose of the brand is marketing the motor,
Actually I would not be surprised, if they build more bikes. If DJI invests into something, they take it seriously.
To be quite frank: I am more into road bikes but this is one of the best , if not the best bike that was presented on Eurobike this year.
is it restricted to 400feet height and what about no-fly zones?
Best product fit for DC
Thanks!
To have built in follow-my-bike would be awesome. Have a little wireless handlebar joystick. Looking forward to see what they do. Will definitely be competitive if it's anything like their drones.
I cannot believe that they missed the opportunity to integrate a "follow me" connection directly from drone to bike. It would have been the strongest statement of the drone world merging with the bike world for the company.
Other than that, it's pretty impressive...
But the drone is getting banned... why build a feature westerners can't use
Amazing news, camera & drone integration will be so sick, let alone a MTB with such a powerful torque!
Ray, you are a legend! Fab bike, and content. Good reading some of the comments too. I watched another video about a trail bike that’s belt driven and totally silent. I forget the brand but it looked awesome too
On any find my device support? If not what are these manufacturers playing at
Would their display be a replacement for Garmin or Wahoo nav units? ALso, I would think it would be simple to setup the Amflow as a beacon for drone to follow, so that may be really cool feature. Interested to see where this goes and if they decide to release a gravel bike. Did they have a list of bike companies that are using their motor system?
The integral battery is what would make this a no-go for me if I was looking for an e-mountain bike. I like with Bosch (and I'm sure it's true for other brands) that I can pop the battery out and put a fresh battery in, or even have an additional external battery I can swap in and out as necessary.
With the integral battery, this $10k bike will eventually be useless for its intended purpose; it'll just be a heavy, inefficient conventional mountain bike once the battery dies. Also, until that time, if you are riding the bike hard up mountain trails and run out of juice, your bike is going to be out of commission for a few hours while it charges, and there's no way around that.
I've wondered about that too. My LBS said that they aren't "swappable" like you pop in a fresh one before a ride, but they are "removable" at the end of their life cycle so the bike isn't useless.
I wonder are there Ebikes with completely NON removable batteries??? That would be insanely stupid.
Well, I've already got those Raceface pedals. Now to save up for the rest of the bike. Anyway, the power-to-weight ratio on this thing is insane. I can't say I really need more power on my current eMTB, but the DJI is a good 10 pounds lighter even with the biggest battery. That's impressive.
Im ashamed on how much ive spent on this sport and am happy about it. As long as you're not ruining yourself financially, its so worth it.
Very impressive!
Question here. Reading your note in the video about only having a walk assist.
My Aventon Aventure has a thumb throttle that will run it at full speed without pedaling at all.
It's a nice feature, but what is the walk speed on the Amflow?
Great video! I won’t lie I was like I knew they would send it to drone guys, but you did an awesome job and were very informative. You can tell you have the knowledge and experience. You answered a lot of questions about who is making what, cost and how it compares in the market. Especially the future possibilities to be compatible with other DJI products. Good job!
Thanks! Though, they didn't send it to me (or tell me anything in advance). I'm just at the Eurobike trade show, and poked at their public booth.
@@Dcrainmaker well you did a awsome job. Especially doing it on the fly like that.
Great stuff Ray! Best info I’ve heard on this bike, especially the “amflow” part. . . I am a very active drone pilot and huge biker of all MTBs and motos. . . Personally, my old turbo Levo has more power than I would ever use or need, I’m looping out in medium power mode on steeps. . . That said, I still think this is a major achievement for DJI and biking in general, between the power, efficiency, energy density and interface, exciting! And this is offering one. I bet it will go like all their other offerings, just imagine, mini pro 4 or pocket 3 level refinements, OMG! Ray, come take a quick visit sometime, I am an expert mountain athlete in Colorado and can document thrilling adventures very well. If you were ever motivated to visit Colorado/Utah. Please contact me! It would be an adventure of a lifetime, thanks again Brother.
This looks like a great system and I trust DJI as a manufacturer. However, I wish it had a throttle option too but I believe it's pretty easy to DIY it.
Can’t in Europe
When I first heard that DJI was soon coming out with a e-bike drive mechanism I questioned it wondering if they were bored of being #1 in everything that they do🤔😄👍👍
"NON REMOVABLE" battery compares to a SUBSCRIPTION plan to software, to me it's a "NO GO TO".
Love your videos and reviews mate!
Thank you.
so can we conect the dji Rc to the bike conect to dji fly and wait for gps check home point and run the bike on the Rc ?
Great review- DJI should help reduce prices in the high end e-bike world. Definitely produce a low cost or economical version as well.
What's it like pedal once you're over the assist speed level I wonder?
Kind of surprised to see DJI to step into the ebike market. I wonder how DJI is going to deal with this product, since people may expect DJI to revolutionize but not just innovate.
What did you use while recording on the bike at the start? No wind noise at all was impressive!
DJI Pocket 3, straight out of camera. Was impressed too.
Dji really needs to create ANT+ accessories with a sports watch or bike computer.. really great interface
You said the charging speeds aren't dramatically different than what's already out there? I disagree, 12A is a good bit more than all its main competitors.
Again, looking at actual charge times for the batteries (as quoted by DJI), they aren't really much different than what Bosche is doing with theirs. Slightly faster, but not massively so.
@@Dcrainmaker Bosch 750Wh is 5 hours to full. Powerplay at 720Wh is 4 hours to full. But Bosch tends to do 1 hour 20%. Where as Powerplay does 30% for the first 3 hours, roughly. That one hour difference and that difference in getting a charge into a battery make a massive difference in real world use. When you are loading bikes on the go you usually can sit and eat for 1 hour at a time before you get tired of waiting. Getting that 30% instead of 20% is a big difference.
EDIT: So apparently the 12A charger on the DJI really is that as it is said to charge 75% in 90 minutes or whatever it was. So basically 50% an hour. You can ride all day like that with dining breaks.
@@rawmancemtb Ride & dine.
Wish they could have added the motors so you could choose to ride bike, or fly above trees. Then we’d be talking about something.
I can hear the US crying "National Security" already!!
I've never seen/heard the term "walk assist." That's kind of funny.
Totally normal term in ebikes.
The best part about the new DJI bike is the battery design that will change every year to maximize profit.
Pretty cool if they can actually promise 1.5hr charging. That might make this worthwhile for deliveries compared to a standard ebike taking 5+ hours.
As for the price, I expect this to be the "halo car" that they're using to sell the parts. If you're a competitor who already sells ebikes, taking their parts to undercut them seems very lucrative.
Surprised they didn't put the little remote thing into it that helps the drones track the bike.
I'd love to see some integration here.
Someone needs to find a way to add a throttle to this and then it would be amazing
I have a question
How much does it cost?
the bike looks so nice. but the rumors are that it will be quite expensive. which is to be expected
As noted in the video, DJI is saying estimated prices of €7K and €10K.
@@Dcrainmaker sorry, missed that.
@@Dcrainmaker What a terrible joke
When ebikes start to fly I am in 😂
5:47 Are those cream colored gears plastic??
Just wondering if this dji motor will have overheat issues. 120nm Vs 80nm. Time will tell.
@trip - i watched a review of this at Sam's Bikes channel . he said he asked about that with the manufacturer and they said the peak power is only available for thirty seconds in turbo/boost mode. they admitted that it was due to overhearing . so , those Nm and wattage figures are not so impressive if that's the case .
consider the Sachs/BMZ motor (112nm ) .it delivers all that power in all assist levels indefinitely , at very low cadence ,40 to 60 rpms without overheating . ive had that motor for five years and it's true , it does NOT overheat.
i have that motor and have run up
So because it has a 1000W motor it's basically illegal in the EU, correct?
That’s a pretty insane entry into the market, hope it shakes up Specialized, Trek, etc
"Ban.... ban... BAN IT!!!"🤣
Walk assist on my Haibike is virtually uselss, its awkward to press for more than a few seconds and makes little difference so I hope its implemented better in the future.
Honestly, their electric motor and battery knowledge is only on par with Bosch, but my guess is the battery tech is going to be better in the long run than any other battery. I bet they move to solid state faster than any other ebike motor company.
You are kidding, DJI did build most things, but the cells are outsourced.
You're high, dji is one of the most innovative companies on the planet, their expertise and products are dozens of times better than Bosch garbage
how much? and when in the US?
Estimated pricing 7K/10K euros (noted in the video), plan to launch in the early fall.
Usa to dji: You cant track us with drones anymore. Dji to Usa: Check out this ebike
LOL
They should’ve made them belt-drive I reckon.
If it's like other DJI products, I cannot wait to hear the stories from users who couldn't ride their eBike because they first needed to create a DJI account with the app.
I wonder.... They make a big thing about the touchscreen and that you don't need buttons on your steer. But i think buttons make it easyer to switch modes when riding than touching... Definitely on a mountainbike like this wich is made for the mountains but you dont always need the power of the motor to be hard.
Also wonderong how the chain will last with a strong motor... It could easily RIP the chain
Totally, but the buttons are there to change views, so the only thing you need to touch the touchscreen for is configuring settings/etc...
@@Dcrainmaker but very cool to do this quick overview :)
10,000$ Is insane
Hope santacruz bycicle give it a try to dji motor, specialized & yeti, but yeti those guys are like die hard shimano and prob they going to sink in that ship if shimano ep8 motors start fixing they battery motor and software.
This could get interesting if the US Congress goes through with banning DJI products in the US....
It doesn’t help us in the long run with import tariffs and bans.
Hence them dancing around if AMflow is owned by DJI.
It’s unclear from the bill summary if it is exclusive to drones or the company at large.
The max legal watts differ per country, but at max this is a moped, so whats the point of going that high?
A moped doesn't require you pedal. These are max speed-limited (in terms of providing assistance) by country.
for 10000 you can buy so many good bikes , world gone crazy
Only thing I'm not a fan of is LTE in the computer
Gerade langsam?
Are you sunday in frankfurt?
No, sadly gone by then!
@@Dcrainmaker okay :(
If the after sales support is the same for their drones I'll make sure to never buy a bike with that motor.
I've got plenty of complaints about DJI, but honestly, every time I've killed a drone in some capacity, I've just filled out the DJI aftercare support and I've had a new drone the next day via DJI Care (just as a normal consumer, not something special).
@@Dcrainmakerlikewise - seized motor? No problem, here’s a new drone three days after diagnosis (in Canada that’s next-day) - and I’m as far from an influencer as it’s possible to be.
120nm sounds like rip chain and cassette
At 5K I'm interested. At 10K, don't care.
Just get a bbshd or an m620..or an m600 if you want something smaller. All 3 will kill this thing
@@slimdunkin117 M620 is like a tank and weights like one. M600 is less heavy but will put most bikes in the 60 lbs range and have shit outta the box firmware for eMTB because it was tuned to be a cargo bike. None of them have modern integration.
@@Zetler uart variation for customizing firmware. Or for canbus simply flash any firmware you want (I have like 10 firmwares with different characteristics). M510 and 560 are popular too
US: "first, they spied on us from the sky. Now, on land. Ban that sucker."
As someone into motorsports.... that motor gearing looks INTENSE. Great quality as to be expected from DJI.
As a cyclist, I don't understand who this is for. You can buy much more powerful dirtbikes for less. If you want exercise... what's the point?
Then you haven't ridden one. They are one of the best training tools for fitness. You can even set for zone and interval training. You can make it as hard or as easy as you want for recovery, it allows you to tackle terrain you simply can't on a regular bike, and lastly... they are completely different sports. Not everyone rides for fitness to begin with but you can 100% use it that way and most people do once they get a grasp of how they work. Remember, you still have to put the effort in.. you just get the added torque and speed.
$10,000 !
Will this bike be banned in the US? asking for a friend..
Maybe in the future DJI will build their own EV.
All said, imagine a good fall in this bike, to get all the sensors and display and all things back in place. its not just one time money but every single time. this thing is crazy expensive.
Bike has LTE before Garmin Edge...
I knew this would be expensive just by looking at it, but 7-$10,000???
I've never met anyone in my 34 years of life who has that kind of money to spend on a mountain bike.
WTF. No user replaceable battery. I would think that is a HARD NO.
You can do it. The motor is in with two bolts and once the motor is lose you can get the battery out.
Correct. DJI is a horrible eco system, like their drones. Run the other way.
10k is comically high
DJI will announce the "No Bike Zones " soon where the bike will not spin the wheels once you enter them :) :) also in 6 months there will be Avinox 2 with 12 klm range more than Avinox1
Why none of you guys did actually put it on weight?
This will disrupt the industry. Bosch better pay attention
When dji entered to FPV with HD goggles everybody was like they took our jobs they are a corporation, now everybody is flying kwads with dji hd goggles and fatshark that was alone in analog had to do something to keep up. Thanks to dji they brough HD & long range
Cool motor tech especially with that display. Way overpriced bike from a totally unknown brand. Look forward to seeing how this motor holds up and what other known brands out there may incorporate it.
"120Nm of force"😂
The DJi looks like any other e-bike. "Unique" is the Pinion MGU with integrated motor and gearbox. That's the future.
As far as torque is concerned, some brands "cheat" by spec-ing torque as a peak, and/or at an unrealistically high rpm (cadence). Like the difference in torque between a gas engine and a diesel engine. The torque that matters is what is available at a cadence of 60 to 80 rpm, not 120 to 150 rpm.
10,000 Euro!! that's a shame.
as an avid MTBer, I can tell right out of the batch this bike frame and design is a knock off or licensed from Trek bike. Even the angles are the same
Idk i have a trek rail and and a friend has the Fuel. They both have split pivot rear suspension design. This frame has a Horst link rear suspension design.
Looks more like a mix between a Rise and a Levo SL...
A registered, official company is not made up.
Anyone can create a company in just a few mins.
Ehhh no. I wouldn't want to control my dji drone with the bike screen/computer. Its a ridiculous idea.
Why? Because ActiveTrack trying to follow you with a camera, would somehow be better than a unit broadcasting and relaying your GPS location as a secondary data source to corroborate?
(Reminder: This is what Skydio has done for years with their Beacon, and AirDog before them…)
10 k 😂😂😂😂😂 I’m can buy great dirtbike wtf
Wind test and rain test? 😂 well at least congress cannot ban Dji ebikes
Actually, they can. In fact, this would as well. It specifically targets DJI’s approved wireless products. This contains Bluetooth.
I know the difference...is expensive and spy you every movement
A 90Nm motor isn't more powerful than a 85Nm motor. Which is the case for Brose and Bosch. Same as cars. It's a graph so the number doesn't tell how the motor behaves. You can safely assume 105Nm is more powerful than 85Nm but it depends. Like with Powerplay at 108Nm. It is more powerful than Bosch. But it has a really lazy power production where as Bosch has instant power so in any technical terrain Powerplay is far slower producing way less force. It's only faster when you can sustain pedaling. Meaning easy paths where you don't need to crank back to time the pedal strokes. Then there is cadence to consider as well. Powerplay requires a high cadence of 90+ for max power. But the problem with that is your cadence is low when you need the most power.
Rocky Mountain made the best motor but ruined it with software. Bosch has had it right for 3 years now. Instant power and overrun so you can crank back a full rotation while the motor stays on are necessary for an emtb. Doesn't matter for road bikes but is absolutely paramount for technical terrain. See how the software on this one is.
Correct, straight torque numbers aren't everything. However, when we hit 120Nm, well beyond the usual 85-95Nm in most of the higher-end ebikes, there's going to be a difference that's likely noticeable short of them having hosed up something lesser. As noted though, it's near impossible to tell though till I get it on some actual MTB terrain.
@@Dcrainmaker My understanding is you aren't a very experienced mountainbiker so what we thinking of buying the motor want to know is the power delivery compared to Bosch. Is it instant when you touch the pedals? Or does the motor just start on the first crank pull. And can you rotate the cranks a full rotation back with overrun when the motor stays on. As you can with Bosch gen4 CX.
@@rawmancemtb I'll grab both units (latest CX and this) tomorrow and do some back-to-back responsiveness bits to see the differences, and respond back here.
@@Dcrainmaker that would be awesome. We ride different ebikes in our group (also riding normal DH/enduro bikes) and this can be nice comparison. As mentioned above, Powerplay at 108Nm feels lazier than Yamaha, so some comparison side by side would be awesome. I am more focused on the weight, because get around -4kg on full fat ebike is a nice option.
And America is about to ban DJI products 😂
That’s just drones.
Too much software junk and apps. Just give us an e bike.
Bad design with non-swappable battery design. If battery is bad, how is a rider going to change to a good one? Seems like the designer want you to go back to them to get you to spend more dollars and you cannot easily self repair!
No
I wish you wear a bike helmet! Stay safe! 🙏
Lmao for that price. Get the specialized turb levo diwnhill ebik3s
Fail, non removable battery. DJI is horrible company, run the other way.
8 to 10k for a mountain bike is f...g crazy. Mountain bikes used to be cheap. Basically these days one small battery and one small motor cost 9k without the bike, because you can get a good non electric mountain bike for less than $1k. It's a huge rip off.
America is gonna ban this bike just because 😂
For everyone.
