Great little build. I feel like socks/feet could be caught/scratched on screw heads. Maybe slightly thicker top boards to allow for some counter sinking?

I think you could countersink your screws if you used small enough screws. Or you could use dowels. That would make it very pretty too, particularly if you used a different kind of wood dowel.
