Ironically, the guy who played the Villan was more of a real hero then the guy who played the hero in this movie, did it all for his kids and powered through his medical condition on top of it
Right?!?! For real
Not only that, he had them and his wife there too I believe so it was like they got a free vacation with him and it was nice for the whole fam to spend some time together in between filming.
RIP Raul Julia.
Basically went to work while literally dying.
Meanwhile the hero was being payed millions to snort yayo.
Raul Julia actually did most of his stunts, even getting tied to cables to attack Van Damme in the end, in spite of going through severe pain and heavy medication. The crew even said he was a pleasure to work with and a really kind man, the true opposite of JCVD. Easily the best in the whole movie. BTW, are you gonna do Mortal Kombat 1995 ? That's a childhood favorite.
Ming-na Wen has not aged since this movie. My God she is a beautiful woman.
yes looks just as good on the current Boba Fett atrocity.
She's still hot. They should of had her reprise her role as Chun Li in The Legend of Chun Li instead of Kristin Kreuk.
@@xbigwormx that movie was written terribly so it wouldn't had changed much unfortunately.
@@KristenDETW Gotta point. SF TLOCL was an unwatchable mess and an embarrassment to the SF franchise. People bash the 1994 SF movie but at least it was watchable stayed close to the source material.
“I see you later, I’m the commissary huh.” This has always been my favorite line next to “it was Tuesday”
Raul Julia was a magnificent actor, even in this film; he gave it his all, and really brought M. Bison to life.
I saw this in the theaters. My childhood buddy, and fellow gamer nerd brought me to see this for his second viewing. He was so excited for me to see the ending freeze frame, where all the characters pose. I wasn't as thrilled as he was.
Kylie Minogue as Cammie? 😍
Raul Julia was and still is a Puerto rican national trasure
🇵🇷 🇵🇷 🇵🇷
Kylie Minogue in a leotard firing a bazooka, and the late great Raul Julia - the only reasons I need to love this movie
Exactly! It is such an amazing movie.
I think JCVD also had an affair with Kylie Minogue during filming
Raul stole every scene and Kylie stole all our hearts!
People can hate on this movie all day idc. I still love it lol. RIP Raul Julia.
Raul Julia is the BEST money they spent on this entire movie because he's the most wonderful part of this entire production and I will hear nothing bad about his performance.
It was Tuesday is one of the greatest lines in cinema history
"Quick... change the channel" by Zangif is my favorite line in the whole movie.
Ow my god, you missed Kylie Minogue! This film is still in my collection and is awesome to watch from time to time! Nice review
I ran a music store for years. One of my regulars seemed to think I looked like Raul, so that's what she called me all those years. He was such a great actor. I don't even count this show against him since he did it for his family. That's so amazing!
Its a trip how Jean Claude Van Damme always defeats bad guys with that same kick
Hey red eye I enjoyed the review. Adrian Cronauer isn’t just a being a tribute to good morning Vietnam or robin Williams during that part with the radio dj He is the actual real life radio dj that robin Williams portrays in good morning Vietnam. He’s playing himself just in shadoloo
Oh really,!?! That is such a cool fact. I really had no idea. Thank you so much for the info!
That is a seriously awesome fact, I had no idea either.
@@RedEyeReviews I came here to say this too. You should watch the movie man, Robin literally said his name on air more than once I think! I loved that soundtrack when I was a kid.
@@RedEyeReviews You forgot to mention that Damme was having an affair with the white girl hero while filming this, while his wife was pregnant with his child.
Nice fact
Raul Julia's performance is what made this movie.
Absolutely. He clearly had a lot of fun despite being ill.
Agreed
Hello RedEye! The guy with the eye patch is Wes Studi from "Last of the Mohicans" and "Deep Rising." Raul Julia is so cool for doing this for his kids. Loved him in the two Addams Family movies.
Oooo that makes sense. I thought he looked familiar. But I agree! Raul Julia did a great thing agreeing to be in this movie and did a great job
And he’s playing the Thai kickboxer Sagat, no?
At least Wes Studi wasn't cast as Dhalsim, dude is still acting and killing it whenever I see him in anything, recently in Reservation Dogs.
Perfect casting, Wesley Snipes as Blade, RDJ as Tony Stark, dude who plays Zangief.
So jcvd inspired the creation of mortal kombat and starred in street fighter... Bad ass!!
I like how SB was asking a genuine question. Not even meaning to be rude. Just wanting clarification and afterwords looks at M and leaves him alone like he actually sympathizes with him.
The arms dealer is Sagat, the doctor is Dhalsim, Kylie Minogue is Cammy, Miguel Nunez (who played Spider in Return of the Living Dead) is Dee Jay. In the games, Charlie, Guile's best friend was never Blanka, so they just kinda combined those characters lol.....I friggin loved this movie when I was a kid. Who am I kidding, I still do lmao.
Great extra details! Thanks for the knowledge my friend!
I liked it too even though it's a bad movie.
@@kman215 Sometimes a bad movie is so bad, it circles back around to being good haha.
I was wondering why i recognized the DJ character, ROTLD is a movie i watched countless times in the 80s.
Funny enough, Robin Williams was playing (and imitating) the real-life Adrian Cronauer in Good Morning Vietnam. So when Adrian did his voice cameo in Street Fighter, it was Cronauer-ception!
Pop star sensation Kylie Minogue plays the part of Cammy in this movie! Apparently she and Jean got very friendly during the filming of the movie.
As you would. He he
@@AdamAus85 I would be SO friendly to Kylie :)
I'm sure she came away from the shoot with more than a little of JC's VD. ;)
@@ballsrgrossnugly Probably a lot of rum and coke was consumed.
_For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life._
_For me...it was Tuesday_
That may well be the best burn of all time 🙂
Raul Julia is the main reason to watch this movie. Just great. He's like Alan Rickman in Die Hard, or Alan Rickman in Robin Hood.. he pulled a Rickman.
Raul Julia is still the definitive live-action M.Bison. Plays the character with a lot cheese just like how I imagine he is in the games.
Fun Fact:
For the movie’s main title track “Street Fighter” by Ice Cube towards the end of the song he talks about how he could murder various martial arts actors (even mocking Bruce and Brandon Lee)
But he has a lyric that gets censored implying he would murder Jean Claude too, like he talks about killing Chuck Norris, Steven Segal, the Lee’s but the record label draws the line at JCVD lol
I love how he looks like he's having the time of his life chewing through the scenery despite the fact that hes actually dying. Such a pro. "But for me...it was Tuesday."
Say what you will about this movie, and everyone has, but it's so damn cheesy and I love it. I'm a massive Street Fighter fanboy, grew up in the arcades. My friends and I were all stoked to see this. Our excitement was swiftly crushed lol. But Raul Julia was badass, his Bison is still the best part of this movie hands down. It sure ain't the animated Street Fighter 2 movie that released around the same time but every now and then I'll throw it on and just laugh.
Oh I completely agree! It's nostalgia factor for me. I love the mindless fun movies like this where you don't need to overthink it at all.
Damn straight he was I love Raul Julia's acting especially in Addams Family.
I saw this as a kid in what we called back in those a MOVIE THEATRE,and I loved it then, and absolutely love it NOW 💓
Street fighter needs a remake🤣
Childhood memories FOREVER 🤟
The Haduken was really humble and I loved it. They didn't make it a big thing and I loved how it was represented
Raul Julia gave this movie 110%. he studied fascist dictators like Benito Mussolini and adopted their various postures and cadences and demeanor. he knows he's playing a parody of a wannabe dictator. and he plays it full-tilt to the hilt. he's absolutely brilliant in this movie.
It's really something that Ming Na Wen is still beautiful 3 decades later
This movie is still one of my guilty pleasures, my parents took my siblings and I to see this in theaters Christmas Week of 1994. I have the VHS and even the DVD of this movie, true classic!
This is Raul Julia's movie he had the best lines the best scenes everything and this movie has in my opinion the best villain line ever.
“For you, the day Bison graced your village was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Tuesday.”
this is the perfect villain line and Julia delivered it to perfection he made the absurdity of this film his and we lost a great actor when he died
I really love this movie. I know it have flaws but it's still very entertaining an well paced. I like jokes (food court, Godzilla etc), cinematography and action scenes. For me it's far better than most 200milions copy paste blockbusters. And one thing. I don't have any proofs but i still thing Westwood studios take some inspiration for game command and conquer. Bison troops really have strong Nod flavor.
Great video.
Enjoyed hearing the actor who played Dhalsiem interview snippets
Thank you! Yeah that is so funny that he literally just gave up trying to make sense of it all
Can you imagine being tasked with wrangling a coked out JCVD??? No thanks.
Love the casting of JCVD as Guile. The all American Air force colonel played by a dude from Brussels with the thickest French accent. Also I like how he totally narcs out Charlie over the TV right front of Bison...Gg Guile :s
Out fucking standing.
I love this movie and now I have a new way to appreciate it.
I wonder what they paid Wes Studi he isn't a slouch by no means. I mean Geronimo, Magua, hell he was in Heat! Idk I feel like he didn't get his recognition being in this lovable piece of trash and I love him and Raul hamming it up.
He was also in Last of the Mohicans, too! I have to figure out if Kylie Minogue was a big pop star at this time too and if so, what they had to pay for her to be Cammy.
@@Rakerong Yeah, Magua was his character in The Last of The Mohicans as Clayton said. =)
@@BillyTheBigKid82 I totally missed that, whoops. My bad!
@@Rakerong No problem.=)
This movie is pure nostalgia for me…was waiting to ship out for Basic Training and saw it in a theater next to the hotel we were in overnight…fast forward a cpl years later, (held over in a hotel before Ranger Scool)and I did the same thing with The Quest! Good times!!
Raul Julia agreed to play m bison because his kids loved the video games
Raul is a treasure
Ok so im from the streets and 10,000 worth of cocaine is like half a Kilo and thats alot of coke for just one guy,he must have been throwing party's while filming this 😂😂😂 love this movie, and the"it was Tuesday"line from Bison is one of the coldest villain lines in film history, great review
I have no idea if it's true, but I've heard coke is cheaper than ever the past few years. Maybe you were just getting less for the money at the time. By 92-93 they had started cracking down a lot harder than they had in the 70s-80s, possibly spiking the price. Just guessing though.
I like how they gave E. Honda a Hawaiian look because this was the height of Akebono. Right after his rise to yokozuna. First non-Japanese born yokozuna.
I loved JCVD and Seagal when I was coming up…thing is, it really appeared that VD was becoming the parody of himself (and overall scumbag) at one point, but as time went on you see that he was able to see himself for what he became and admit(as well as apologize for) his shortcomings, something Steven was never able, or is unwilling to do due to his overblown ego. I will always have a ton more respect for JCVD!
"It was Tuesday" is a great line, but my favorite is "You got . . . paid?"
One of those movies that are not actually good, but manage to put some kind of innocent mania into a highly cynical product. The fact the result is actually watchable (with the right mindset) is actually a testament to the filmmaker's skill ^^
Damnnn dude! You’ve literally hit every movie of my childhood!!! Nicely done!
I'm so glad :)
That Ken actor was also Cage in the MK '95 movie as well. That is Iconic like Ryan Reynolds playing Green Lantern(not a bad movie) crossing over and playing Deadpool.
Post credit scene? Wtf 😂 I never knew that's incredible
This movie did not deserve Raul Julia. His performance was filmed on a different set, and possibly in a different dimension.
I haven't watched this movie in a long time, and I just realized that it predicts the upcoming Marvel vs. Capcom phase of the MCU. After all, Agent Melinda May of SHIELD was undercover in this movie.
Seriously tho, I was a Street Fighter II fan, so I was a bit confused at why Giles played such a big part, instead of Ken and Ryu.
14:38 '...he's just really coked out' X-D Your reviews are hilarious, keep up the good work. Also: love this movie, and yes; Zangief was the best character in the movie
Thank you so much! So glad you found the channel and are enjoying it all.
Zangief was sooooo good.
Nice review man, loving your vids. Idea for a film; We make a film about the filming of this film (like a sort of Tropic Thunder type vibe) but its a darker story about JCVD's drug problems and we tell it through the eyes of JCVD's minder who likes to party - honestly I think this movie would be the bomb... or maybe just bomb... either way, you game?... so to speak?
That sounds great! A biographic film about him falling apart and attempting to get a movie made
The most wholesome part of this whole movie is opposite JCVD being a diva and cheating on his wife with Kylie Minogue is that Raul Julia only made this movie because his kids loved the video game so much and wanted to leave them with something before he passed away
It is the best line... I still use it to this day whenever someone complains about something I did in the past..
It wasn't the street fighter movie I wanted. But it was the GI Joe movie I wanted.
I also remember hearing the JC smashed Kylie Minogue during the filming.
I thought so many of the actors looked like the characters they portrayed.
This film will forever be remembered for three things to me, and only one is good:
Raul's last movie.
Guile isn't American?!
And that terrific "...but for me, it was Tuesday " line.
You see that painting in Bison's room when he gasses our heroes? Is that an M Bison as pogo the clown?or a John Wayne gacy that Bison commissioned perhaps?
Oh great eye! I think it's supposed to be his version of the John Wayne Gacy clown.
Always love the sunny clips!
Lol thank you! I watch enough of that show it is stuck in my mind
The commentary from the mad scientist bloke was great 😂😂😂
Right?! Production sounded like a bit of a train wreck.
fun fact, zangief isn't cononically a villain in the street fighter series, in fact in one game his whole reason for entering a tournament is to win the admiration of school children, literally just to make a bunch of kids happy, man's got a heart of a gold, he can be a bit arrogant at times though
i liked how the "AN group" said if you where found on the street after dark you would be shot. i was like dam and they where there to help.
The only two good parts of that movie... Raul Julia chewing up the scenery and Ming-Na Wen is (as always) insanely beautiful.
It's funny that the "random guy in boxing gloves" was literally always meant to be Mike Tyson
Thank you I watched it quit a few time, bison character is awesome in this movie , its funny and cool movi e
Street Fighter is an underrated movie. Such a classic that was loved by every kid at the time. F the critics!
Like half of JCVD's movies are about secret butt whooping tournaments and when they decided to make a movie based on a game about a secret butt whooping contest they make it about a weird supervillain dictator.
What I find incredibly ironic is how JC uses the same maneuver here that was used on him, to add to his loss, years back in No Retreat/No Surrender. That's just good JC trivia. iMO
This was before Ken joined los Vatos Locos because he still has his leg.
Esta va a nombre de Raul Juliá!! Sin cojones me tiene JCV .... the only one who mattered here was Raul. How I wish he could still put our island's name up top. Miss him like crazy.
Pretty shocked RedEye missed that Adrian Cronauer was the actual person Robin Williams was portraying in Good Morning Vietnam. I'm sure I'm the millionth person to mention, just really threw me for a loop. It's amazing they actually completed Street Fighter, even more amazing it's still the most enjoyable of the live action versions.
Ming Na Wen has aged gracefully.
What....I never knew about that post credit scene
And, at one point in the movie I remember the Doctor being refereed to as Dhalsim
So glad you mentioned the ‘change the channel’ line, Always cracked me up as a kid. 😂
I see you put in. Always Sunny clip, nice touch
I named my Golden Lab Hadouken. He's 5 years old and he's a good boy. Comments range from "What?" to "Oh, Street Fighter, Nice!" Was inspired by Street Fighter 2. My Dad calls him Dew :)
I think this is the most accurate live action game I’ve ever seen. I even played the video game on sega Saturn that actually originated from the movie itself. Like the characters from the movie were in the game. Not like these days, where games like, The Avengers, were made with actors we have no clue who they were and were nowhere near the original actors
Looking back it was pretty damn good.
Not gonna lie, this movie was a guilty pleasure when I was a teen
TIN ROOF RUSTED!!!
The love shack!!!
Now that's research!
your favorite guy Zangief is also the guy who plays in all the awesome football movies like the Program :)) STARTING DEFENSE! A PLACE AT THE TABLE! WOOOOOOO!
He also played Leatherface in the Platinum Dunes TCM duology and Max Shreck's son in Batman Returns.
The woman who plays Chun Li is now on The Mandolorian
I miss the good old days when we had the most awesome movies
It's crazy they let Miklo, the leader of the prison gang La Onda, out of prison to shoot his scenes as Ken.
Oh ... this ... SUCKED! Not ONLY that, but Guile doesn't exclaim "SONIC BOOM!"
Yeah I think that was a Haduken after they spent the special FX budget on cocaine.
Lol this is the correct answer
Adrian Cronauer was actually the inspiration for Good Morning Vietnam.
Kylie Minogue.....had a crush on her for 40 years... I still love you Kylie....x
Raul Julia was an incredible actor R.I.P
“ you got paid ….?”
Kylie Minogue is a national treasure here in Australia!
Zangief was also in Batman Returns as Christopher Walkens son, did have a decent cast with Wes Studi, Kylie Minogue and Simon Callow, I wonder how much they got paid!
This film broke my heart. After playing Street Fighter II as a kid (yeah I am old), we were so jazzed to see this only for our hopes to be flushed with in river of sh!t
Omitting any mention of Kylie Minogue seems worthy of something... a sin.
Ding!
Haha that fair. I deserve it
Kylie Minogue...sorry what?!😂
Raul Julia was dying from cancer in this movie and still fights better than Steven Seagal.
I loved Vegas prison claws 🤣😂😂
