For me, this song IS the 80s. Everytime I hear it, it's a instant trip back in time.
Absolutely!
100%
BRAVO🤩😇🥲
And it's now the main theme of the "Hershey's" tv ad here in the USA!
It's refreshing to hear an artist not trying to distance himself from the song that he is forever identified with. He clearly embraces the fact that they caught lightning in a bottle 40 years ago, and is not at all phased that it probably overshadowed the bulk of their work.
Thanks for stopping the world and melting with us.
I love the way a lot of these guys give credit where it's due. Mr Gray is very generous to the song's producer and his "suggestions."
Yes He was , Robbie definitely is a genuine person. Would be awesome to hear the rest of the band members take on the song.🇺🇸✌️
People love this song because it speaks to young love and how we feel so free...before falling into the conformity of everyday life...(sigh) we look back to a more seemingly free time.
Definitely!!! I couldn't figure out what it was that continues to be fresh & exciting about this song 35+ years later.. Young Love. That is it... always fresh , always exciting . Thanks ☮❤🎶
@@tishamesa1677 it's about a couple getting nuked really, like they're melting in the nuclear heat
Thank God for the 80's
It's one of the best songs to the soundtrack of my life..... Absolute classic.
This was a brilliant catchy one hit wonder that just perfectly encapsulated the Eighties Brit Pop Sound Back then. It’s still a good catchy tune!
Sir, you wrote not only a classic but a song that defined a lot of our lives. Our childhoods wouldn't have been complete without it. Thank you!
I was a dj in a dance club in 1982 I would play this track 3 times a night.everybody just loved this song.i still love it.its to good
I always liked this song especially the drum break after the humming part.
This song was featured in the movie Valley Girl and absolutely ruled it!
One of my favorite movies..and E.G. Daly...man o' man!
It adds to the ending of the movie perfectly.
That soundtrack is SO good!
Yes it did !!!!!!!!!
I remembered! Took me right back..... Good memories!
How ironic, I was a punk rocker and when I met my wife this song was playing. It instantly became our song. Of course I married her and later realized it was life imitating art after watching “Valley Girl” one night and this song came on.
The memories.... Every time it comes on,I time travel.
Superb ! As soon as i hear it I am back in the 80s. For me this song is THE sound of that decade.
This song is one of my all time favorites
I love this Legendary song from The 80s. Thank you Robbie Grey and your bandmates.
"Good song, really." Damn right! It's an 80s masterpiece. A song like this buys houses and cars for a long long time.
This song NEVER gets old! It's a Timeless Classic! It was in one my favorite movies "Valley Girls" with Nicholas Cage (Coppola). Not only a great movie also a great soundtrack!! What a time that (80's) was, oh the memories!!
We Filipinos loved this song. Great new wave song!
A great part of my youth is wrapped up in those lyrics.
I met Robbie at an airport several years ago and he couldn't have been more kind to an idiot fan like myself.
I met him before a show in Toledo, Ohio back in 1999-2003 time range lol / but same , he was just a super nice guy and I was star struck and he let me babble on about his this song and how it was the soundtrack of my life - even offered me a free drink - talked with me for about 10 minutes easily . Thankfully I calmed down enough to list all the songs from “after the snow” album so he knew that is what I went to bed every night for years , so that he understood I enjoyed all their work ... we talked about a bit as I asked about that video shoot - and the outfits and hair and his hat lol he had a great sense of humor about it ...Before they started playing - he announced that he wouldn’t be playing a certain song that most were expecting to hear ...so half the people left ...yet for an encore they played an extended version for “the true fans “ while giving me a personal nod and wink that started acoustically and morphed in and out of the original way and a new way with plenty of crowd participation during . Just a great guy and awesome song !
Great video ! Thanks for sharing
@@thejaco6234 That’s awesome.
@@thejaco6234 Omg thats awesome
OMG I love hearing stories like that and knowing that men are nice and appreciative of fans.
1982, man I feel old..... Awesome song.
I feel the pain.
We may be kinda old but we lived in the best decade...
@@eddiebrown8549 I'm a 52 year old black man n Ivevprobably listen to this song at least once a week for 20 years. As a kid of the Real MTV era..maaaan, one of my all time favorite songs.
Yeah. Thinking about it now, where the heck did the time go?
Next year will for 40 frickin years!?! Doesn't seem possible. Proud to be a GenXer!
This is one of my favorite songs all time. How great to hear him admit he was forced to get out of his own identity as a punk and do things he'd not done ... the song is timeless yet takes me right back to sitting in my fathers tv room watching the video on Mtv ... there was the top 40 on radio and there was the hot rotation on Mtv ... they were not the same in the beginning. And you can hear the producers difference on After The Snow album from first one ... its still experimental and different but its easier to lean into ... its quite simply one of the best albums of the era period ...Modern English helped usher in and define that era of pop rock new wave/post punk influenced music. It was great and then it started to fade out and the poseurs were nowhere as good ... by the end of the 1980's new sounds emerged ... some good some quite bad .. but to me After The Snow lp stands the test of time and is 101 to any interested listener who wants to study that era.
So cool to stumble upon this video, after I've been playing the original for years, and this year's "from home" version of it umpteen times. Robbie seems like such a nice guy, and it must be an amazing, maybe humbling feeling to know that people all around the world have loved this song for decades.
I did a tour with these guys....they are all great
Lockdown version was the best thing to come out of 2020 by far. I love that video so much.
This is the music of my life. Everything comes back every time I hear it, it's like a time machine. The 80's became the best, this is one of the reasons. Thank you, M.E.!
Simply said, this song is a masterpiece!
Imagine writing the soundtrack to a generation of people's lives in two minutes.
Nice that Robbie acknowledges that the song has been big here in the Philippines. Really during the 80s many new wave bands have become big here...
They go crazy because it's a great song !!! 👍
Best modern pop song ever written. Thank you kindly Mr Grey.
I still have my After the Snow album. Somehow through all my moves around the country I've managed to hang on to it.
I still have mine as well and is minty!
This is the song I meant for my wife I was a Punk Rocker (still am) and my wife was a Preppy and we are still together. Thanks.
My all time favorite song ever and that's coming from a metalhead. Probably the only song I never get tired of hearing. Good job.
This song means so much to me!! Thank you!! Most beautiful line: "Trapped in a state of imaginary grace" !!
Beautiful song and I love how you can see the good memories he has with this song in his eyes
Trapped in a state of imaginary grace is perfect
Saw them last night at the Totally Tubular Festival. They were amazing. Wang Chung was a real close second
I’m a Filipino and I’m stuck in this era. Very good song.
Love this song , my senior year in high school, great times !
Robbie: "I like that line...who knows what I was on at that point?"
It was 1982, you wrote this three and a half minute song in 'literally two minutes', and your album was called 'After The Snow'...I've got it! It was black coffee and clean living, right?
AWESOME all these years later!!!
MASTERPIECE OF THE MUSIC ..................... LONG LIFE TO NEW WAVE
" I made a pilgrimage to save this Humans race" Certain versions of this song you can hear His voice crack a little on this line which is really Heartfelt
Philippines proud 80s pinoy boy here🇵🇭❤️👍
I was a 16 yr old crazy teenager when I heard first their MUSIC , it was 1984 when I heard first the one of their music hits , its HANDS ACROSS the SEA on manila's only FM BAND RADIO station DWXB 102 FM that played all BRITISH BAND during those days nobody knows about this RADIO station that played different kind of music ,.then other stations came along , 105.1 DZBM FM , NU 107 ,..then I heard the extended version of I MELT WITH YOU ,..thats why the MODERN ENGLISH are one of my favorites BRITISH BAND of all TIME along with NEW ORDER !
It has perfect melody. It floats as he says. The lyrics are great. Always makes me think of my youth. Cheers guys 👍🏼
Very few songs can be considered a one hit wonder and a masterpiece at the same time. This song is certainly one of them. Such a great song!
Amazing recap of a great song by the beautiful man who wrote it. IMO the greatest song of the 80’s. I love Robbie Grey and I love “I Melt With You”. Thanks for posting, I will be watching this video many more times :^)
It's a timeless song, I still hear it on the radio all the time. Well done Robbie Grey & God bless.
I've never had the chance to see ME live but if I ever do I promise you I will be going absolutely nuts during this song. 40 years and this is still my favourite song of all time. Glad to hear that it seems like Robbie doesn't resent this song for being so popular, the way so many artists seem to regard their hits and fans. The lockdown version has made the past year seem not so bad.
Along with Swan on Glass, this song is beyond brilliant. Pure art!
Man….your band….like you just said…”takes my heart”…so beautiful.
This Makes My TOP 10 SONGS Of all Time.....When I Heard This in The Movie VALLEY GIRLS....I WAS hooked....One of the Rare SONGS where I ACTUALLY KNOW every Word....IT Always takes me BACK...To those BEAUTIFUL EIGHTIES.......
I do not know ANYONE who doesn't love this song! So much fun, always makes me want to get up and dance.
this is such a wonderful song
I was in grade 9. Beautiful. Emotional. Timeless...
1982. The Jam, The (first) Who Farewell Tour, Post Punk along with Modern English blasting out the Speakers...Seems like.....like a long time ago!!! LoL! Great Song! Timeless! Stood the Test of Time! ^_^
Love this song then, and now!!
Iconic 80s song for sure.
'....stream of consciousness....' Absolutely brilliant!
I love this song one of my favorites always and never ever gets old.
it is a beautiful song, positive, about love, being kind, getting better
Hello, Class of 1984 here and I have to say that was AMAZING!! Took me WAY back!! That song makes me feel so much!! So many things happened at that time, such an impressionable time... almost surreal
Probably my favorite song of all time
Oh man, do I love this song.
Back in the 80's we had a Shakey's pizza parlor in town and this song was on the jukebox. I swear I dropped more quarters in that jukebox playing that song than I did playing Donkey Kong or Pac Man.
My favorite 80s song.
Thank you Mr. Grey, well done.
The quintessential 80’s song
It actually has a melody. Not only that, but it’s catchy and original. Thanks!
Beautiful narrative on a beautiful song. It takes me back to a time and a place; college. It always put a smile on regular day and created a positive outlook. Sort of like meditation really. Many songs from that period but this did it for me.
Has to arguably be they’re biggest hit ever !
i was in college when this came out and was at a mixer social dance, with most guys and girls keeping to themselves. This song came on, and it seems as if everybody there was hearing it for the first time. Every single girl in the room ran to the dance floor and all started dancing wildly in a group. I remember running out (as a guy) and dancing all by myself in the middle of the pack. Women know things before men sometimes.
Sometimes, when artists step out of their comfort zone, they can come up with absolute gems. Just like this one and the only other example I can think of is Outkast with Hey Ya. It's a hit and miss thing but when they hit, It's wow!. It's all about the journey and the exploration.
For me the best new wave song of all time
This was one of my favorite songs growing up in the 80s. The humming part was brilliant. Someone should do a remake, 2022 version :)
What a well told story. It is a great song.
THE GLORIOUS AND GORGEOUS 83 !
The song never gets old. I love the song very much. Everytime I hear this song seems like it's always the first.
Thank you Robbie and Hugh for your great song! I am the vocalist and songsmith of "Blue Army" that wrote the song "Subway Girl." Your song is what partially inspired my own song to be written and it came out in a similar fashion. Thank you for helping me pluck it out of the spheres many years after your song had aready come out. Cheers!
This is a beautiful love song.
Not a love song..Rob wrote this in regards to a nuclear bomb
This song transitioned me from rock/pop to alternate, for that I’m eternally grateful 👍
Thanks for venturing out of your comfort zone with this tune. Love you man
I was 16 when this came out and I remember fighting over the only boom box in the house with my 18 year old brother. He wanted to play Iron Maiden's "Number of The Beast" I wanted to play Modern English and The Smiths. I showed my Mom the cover for "Number" and the running horse 🐎 on "After the Snow" . Guess who turned Mom on to Modern English? At age 76 she still hums this song..especially the humming part. I don't think Mum knows any Maiden songs
Great song! Iconic song.
This song made me tear up....took me back to the 80's...
This song is one of my top 3 favorite songs of all time and it IS my 1983. I was all about Modern English back then and I don't think they ever got the credit they deserved as a an influence on bands to follow. That wide dynamic going from loud and big to calm and subtle in a song had an influence on bands like Nirvana that followed them 10 years later. The video was really striking for it's time . Robbie looked like he'd been in some kind of fight the night before the video he was all scabbed up which really looked jarring and gave the song an edge . Great band and a great song.
Thank you for the song Robbie and the rest of Modern English from the Philippines!!♥️🇵🇭
Mesh and lace is in my top 10 albums of all time
Omg!! I sooo love this song!!!
Great band! First two albums very different but both great. A post punk masterpiece followed by a pop gem. Fair play to them! Still great live as well.
One of my all-time favorites. Thank you Modern English!!!
Sire Records was THE label for the Post-punk/New Wave/Early 80's Alt music. Thank you Modern English and Seymour Stein for this timeless song.
I think that 'I Melt With You' and 'Don't You Forget About Me' are the quintessential eighties songs. You hear them and they instantly state that this was the eighties.
One of the coolest Post Punk bands to ever grace the music scene and a classic, iconic song. Their first 3 albums are gold. Most people think this is just a love song but, it's actually about two lovers literally melting into each other as they make love while a nuclear bomb goes off...
Love that tune ! 🎶💿Remember that song ! Just turn 20 years old at the time . When MTV was really really GOOD ! 😎👍🎸🎹💿🔊🎶🎶🎶🎶🍻
I love this song I also play and sing this song on stage. Every time it takes me back. One time playing out on a gig we played this and the people in the bar started sing along with me it was so magical. Wished I could have this time back again.
I'll stop what I'm doing to hear this song!
Def one of my favorite songs from high school
This song is my time capsule. Lucky for me I found a 12 inch copy in a thrift store 10 years after the song came out. Always brings me back in my teenage years everytime I play this record.
