I appreciate that you don't edit out any adjustments you have to make when things don't go quite as you want. You even summarize the problems, which helps me learn, too!
DJI are a little late to the party, new users to waypoints may try out DJI version but with the advance options of Litchi and AutoPilot, I can’t see DJI cornering the waypoints mission mode as yet. I like the workflow and option to share missions with Litchi.
Nice video... DJI has a ways to go to catch up with Litchi, mainly because I don't like the idea of needing to have the drone powered up while building/editing routes... One of my favorite things about Litchi is being able to plan missions at home on my PC, then WiFi/load them into Litchi on the iPad I use for flying (again without drone being turned on)...
You don’t need to power up the drone to make waypoints. With the drone turned off, press “Enter device”, next press “Enter camera view”. Now you can make waypoints with the drone turned off.

Can all this be done offline. Which stages definitely need to have mobile internet ? And which stages can make do without ? I mean i usually fly at places with no mobile internet or wifi. Hell i don't even have a sim card inside my drone phone (bec i use that brand new phone exclusively as a drone phone).
Henrik… I got the proper cord I needed for the vision calibration. Thanks for your help. I have reached out to other UA-cam channels with questions about way points 2.0 however none of them respond to their viewers. I have some questions I was wondering if you could help me with… first of all when flying a waypoint mission is there a way you can cancel it if needed.? Also, how do you know the proper gimbal pitch to use or can you adjust the gimbal manually during flight? I also made a flight in the waypoint missions, and then on one of my way points it shows a question mark ? By the waypoint, Any insight on these question would be greatly appreciated. And do you mind helping me out in the future if needed ? thank you Thomas.
Yes, you can cancel anytime during the mission by hitting the power button/return to home as far as I remember, you set the gimbal towards a specific point of interest but you can adjust it freely during the mission. It’s a long time since I’ve been using the feature, so I may not remember it correctly.
An interesting feature well explained. That said, it should be pointed out that Litchi enables you to construct a mission on Google Earth using 'Viewpoints' as 'Waypoints'... VERY handy with Google's 3D mapping.
I don’t like setting waypoints on the map. I take my drone to where I wants the waypoints, set up gimbal etc. and then press C1 to set the waypoint. Now I’m sure, that I framed everything like I want.
Exactly what i thought. What is the point in flying along a path, when you not see what is getting filmed? You can see it as an good example on his footage - absolutely worthless. And most of the youtube guys that explain the waypoints pre planning have no good footage to show afterwards - for a reason! It makes way more sense search in a first flight for good camera framings and then create a path out of this pre framed waypoints and maybe modify this waypoints a bit numerically. When you have not enough battery, get a second one. Thats the only way to create usable footages.
So still does DJI way points now in 02-Apr-2020 have the ability to program missions offline at home with the map or we still have to do it by flying the aircraft to each way-point and memorizing that spot. Also why when it reaches each way-point to judders the drone like it hit a lamppost, that makes it impossible to get cinematic sequences smoothly right ?
I generally take a lot of time and care in my mission planning with Litchi in the mission hub with my PC. Getting all the settings exactly how I want them, interpolating between POI, getting altitude and speed factors are no 5 min thing. The ability to run them through a virtual mission in Google Earth, at one time a luxury are now a requirement for me. It's like somebody at DJI always say, ok we know they want XXX, but we will deliver XX, the last X will go on the next model. I bet they will have an online mission hub with the M2P Platinum, but then no ability to run it through Google Earth. I will stick with Litchi thanks! :)
What happens if you configure the drone so that if it loses signal continue its mission and during the mission, without signal, while the battery runs out ... will it automatically return home or will it strictly end the mission? and come home?
Det' sådan de bliver til.... grate ending comment. And even though that I don't have a drone (would love one) I learned quit a lot from this video. Thanks 😀 Have a nice Whitsun.
that was a pretty funny ending!! OK, I have not tried this yet, but I must say you presented this lesson well, its not the first time your videos have helped me learn, thank you for posting,, I hit like twice in case someone hit dislike twice ;-)
I think so, on the map I can see the home point and for that to be on the map the drone will have to be on. I will stick with Litchi and Autopilot if that is the case.
I noticed that the POIs on the map have the option to adjust height, and the drone takes this and its altitude into account. If you’re good with trigonometry you can calculate the exact pitch angle along with the different altitudes and distances. For the rest of us, just remember this: if the POI and waypoint altitude are the same, the camera is level with the horizon (0 degrees); as the POI lowers, so does the camera angle. Keep in mind that you can’t get a full 90 degrees down unless your waypoint is directly over the POI. Hope this helps
I really hate Waypoint 2.0. If I forgets to save the mission (which I often forgets), then aborting the action will delete all waypoints and POIs. Also I hate, that when I need to alter a waypoint and I press the waypoint, DJI GO often thinks I want to add a new waypoint. Furthermore you can’t set gimbal pitch to negative. Litchi allows all this. Litchi also allows me to create the route on my PC and then save it to the cloud and download it on my phone. DJI has some works to do with waypoints. I often sees jerky movements when using waypoints - don’t know if this is a software or hardware problem.
Informative video. But I find that planning the mission using the DJI Go 4 app will consume too much power. I rather plan my mission using Litchi on my PC still, in the comfort of my home. Using DJI Go 4 app to plan a mission seems to be for the spur of the moment type of missions. "... Press the thumb down button twice ..." = LOL. Clever & so funny.
Huge difference with Litchi, is the maps are real maps (photographic), not some vector graphics without detail. Makes is 100% more useful, not to mention, drone does not have to be powered up while creating way points.
I have the Mavic 2 & Waypoints 2.0 which I find is crap. With the new Mavic 2 can you set waypoints manually like the original mavic? I think its stupid setting waypoints via a map!! as you can't frame your shot - there is no way of accurately framing your waypoint's height, angle, gimbal to frame properly, after all photography & videography is a visually sport not a plotting art you make on a map?? Please, your knowledge will be very appreciated.
How does this make Litchi dead???? You can't plan off line like Litchi can!!!! Litchi is still the king of waypoints no matter how much DJI is paying you to say otherwise!!!! If I could have given you 100 thumbs down I would have!!!
Hehe, that’s engagement too ;-) DJI has a long way to catch up with Litchi I agree, but if DJI decide to do it, they will be in big trouble. I’m not even remotely being paid by DJI

Agreed, and I prefer being able to route missions at home on my PC first, then connect and load them into the iPad I use for flying...

Very cool tutorial, do you know which DJI drones work with it? I have a Mavic Pro and it doesn't seem to work with it. Thank you!
Not 100% sure, but I think Mavic Air 2 is capable of doing this as well (at least with Litchi)

Has WP 2.0 an offline Planer like Litchi-Hub ?
Not to my knowledge
Litchi you can create them on a PC and load them into the phone... DJI still has a long way to go before they are close to Litchi.
Totally agree with you it's a reduced version in comparison, but nothing prevents DJI from doing that.
thank you for going over this feature
Thank you! I did not know that it was updated! I can't wait to try it now. You're the man!
But Litchi work with Mavic Pro, Go 4 App Waypoints 2.0 it doesn't works with Mavic Pro !🙁
Do you know why the drone pauses slightly in flight at each way point?
You can prevent til by selecting curve in the settings, but then you can’t do operations in the specific waypoint
