    A lesson I had to learn: best is to orientate the objects in a way so that the islands start as small and pointy as possible. The risk of failures will greatly decrease and fewer supports will be needed.

    Brilliant! I don't know what mess I would have created if my friends had not warned me and explained the need for supports. Then I understood everything with your video. Thank you!

    Chitubox is so much better than the support program that comes with my Photon. The supports come away better and cleaner, and the supports are placed more sensibly.

    I recently discovered a trick that's a literal game changer! Wipe a small amount of PTFE lubricant on a clean FEP sheet. No more prints sticking to the FEB. I usually reapply the lube every three or four prints.

    Thanks for the great video, so good to get the support settings, this is the part I'm trying to learn, only just staring with Resin printing.

    I pretty sure the teeth failed. Notice in the video during the high res reveal, they start showing it from a side angle then just as you might be able to see the side of the face they start blowing smoke at the model. Why not just admit your mistake instead of trying to cover it up?

    • @DRU_Hards
      @DRU_Hards 4 роки тому +9

      That was my observation as well. It was pretty apparent that the upper teeth would be an island and not print correctly. It could have been a perfect time to show that is important to double/triple check your layers before calling it final.

    • @Monocure3DProTips
      @Monocure3DProTips  4 роки тому +3

      The teeth didn't fail! We were not trying to cover up anything. The smoke was not intentional.

      This tutorial is misleading because instead of checking islands in the model, relying solely on Auto-support is a proven receipe for failed prints. How is that for "Pro Tips"? Many people will try and do this and wonder why parts of the model won't print. When he removed a support for the teeth, I was perplexed thinking this is definitely going to create an island and missing teeth in the final print. And then they ended the video right before the front face reveal. Lol.

      It didn't really even have supports for the teeth, just one for inside the mouth. Yes the teeth failed. You can clearly see the failure at 15:30 to 15:40. This model would have been best printed on it's back, the way it was positioned by the artist! That is the only way to get the teeth to come out right.

    One thing ive started doing was adding way more supports but making all the supports the thinnest setting, with no shape on the connected end so when it's done printing, i can gently tear the model off tons of tiny supports that don't leave a mark and break off in easy chunks, at least recently ivebbeen doinnthis with some success

    Some ideas... It would be great a video in which you show a printed model with all the different types of resin that Monocure sells and talk about their properties. Also mixing normal resin with Flex100 and doing drop tests. In this way we could know what would be the minimum percentage to add flex so that a model is as rigid as possible but does not break into small pieces if it falls to the ground.

    • @Monocure3DProTips
      @Monocure3DProTips  5 років тому

      @@Monocure3DProTips Yes I did and it's great, but would love to see a more in depth one. Like with 10% of flex or 50/50 ratio and then maybe compare all those prints, how they behave, pros and cons... BTW, I'm just curious and super new here, still waiting for my printer and monocure resin to arrive and eager to start testing things out.

      @SimonJHudson 4 роки тому

      @@broderp thanks for that. Do you have any advice on how to decide where to put a support, especially how far between each support? It is it all a matter of trial and error until you just have an eye for it?

    • @OiDepp
      @OiDepp 4 роки тому +1

      @@SimonJHudson the most important is to support every island. Slide through the layer view an hit any spot that is not in connection with the rest of the print. this is also important for the orientation of the model to make it easier for you to support well.

      If you look carefully in the video, you can see that the upper teeth, in fact, did not print. It does seem almost intentional by the video editor to gloss over that with how they cut the 360 rotation of the finished print.
