Those of us of a certain age were so lucky to grow up watching Dave Allen. He is so missed, and this is just a masterpiece that I never tire of watching. The structure, the delivery, the timing and then the pay-off. Absolute comic genius 👌 Loved your reactions, especially when it finished. Best wishes to you both from Somerset, England.
Dave Allen was a very funny, clever comedian and a great storyteller. He was actually Irish, although he had a show on British television back in the 70s and early 80s.
I was of an age when I was allowed to stay up late on a Sunday (school tomorrow !) to watch Dave Allen. But we tend to forget that most of the show was sketches - very good, well-written sketches, sometimes elaborately filmed. And yet, we really only remember the monologues. A stool and a little whiskey were all he ever really needed.
Dave Allen is Irish, Ireland being quite a strict Catholic country dominated by the Catholic Church in the 1970's when he was doing this it was quite brave to take on these subjects.
It's great because he respects the intelligence of the audience. He knows if he pauses just long enough, they'll anticipate the joke and appreciate it even more.
Those were the days…a comedian sitting on a chair…glass of whiskey, smoking a cigarette while telling jokes on tv..love watching our American cousins watching some old school comedians…love your reactions to Dave ✌🏻🇬🇧🇺🇸
Can't beat an Irish comedian poking the church using logic vs faith. I've enjoyed his humor since the 70s. He does a good bit about his nervous flying thoughts. Good reaction, Thanks.
In the 1980s, Dave Allen At Large was on TV in Buffalo on channel 29 Monday through Friday at 10:30pm, right after Benny Hill at 10:00. I watched it almost religiously! This show was such a classic. His humor could be very dry but it was still absolutely hilarious. There will never be another Dave Allen or Benny Hill.
Loved your reactions! 😂 I’m Australian and grew up watching Dave Allen on TV with my Catholic grandmother. I’m almost 60 now , she’s been gone for more than 40 years and I still hear her laughing at Dave Allen.
In the 70's, his seminal comedy show Dave Allen at Large was compulsive viewing. The shows were a mix of Allen in front of a studio audience telling jokes and funny stories cut with bunches of pre-recorded sketches. Its comedy gold.
Dave Allen was a legend, a brilliant Irish comedian, people watcher and makes us laugh so much. When I feel down, Dave Allen goes on and makes me laugh so much. Thanks for sharing with us x
You have to understand that Dave Allen comes from 1970s Ireland and that religion played a major part of peoples lives in Ireland during that time. So for Dave Allen to speak out about religion and the Catholic church this was cutting edge of it's time. If you haven't yet seen it I strongly recommend 'Derry Girls' again Irish humour at it's best, the writing is wonderful so is 'Father Ted.'
Ahh the late great Dave Allen. The funniest comedian I've ever seen. We used to go to his theatre shows in the 70s, 80s and 90s up the West End (London, England) myself, mum, dad. Both my parents being Irish immigrants during the 1950s. My dad loved Dave, he used to say that Dave was not only the funniest Irish comedian of all time but the funniest anywhere. R.I.P Dave Allen.
Funniest Irish comedian ever an absolute genius try his Dave Allen on religion and his teaching his kid the time. He has so many good sketches too. So glad you watched this brings back some great memories. Slainte from Ireland.
Hello. I'm glad you guys discovered Mr Allen. He was undoubtedly a comedic genius. He was more than that. Actually, he was a philosopher who put what he wanted to convey to people in comedic packaging. I guess one can describe Mr George Carlin in the same way. Greetings from Germany.
Please react to Dave Allen Airplanes. It is on the channel Simon Tilley, it has over 3.8 million views and is definitely one of Dave Allen's best. You will never look at flying in the same way again. It is absolutely hysterical and so very true too. 🇬🇧👍
So pleased that you found Dave Allen, one of the best ever comics from these islands. He spent a lot of time performing in England - so I guess he was an Irishman who could swim.....
Dave was brought up in the Catholic faith, but his comedy questioned and even took the mickey out of the church. Very intelligent and funny man. His observations on travelling by plane are funny. Best Wishes from Wales.
Dave Allen was Irish rather than British, but he appeared on British TV a lot. Ireland was strongly religious when he was growing up there, so it features quite a lot in his comedy, but it's never offensive. It is hilarious though. As well as stories from the chair, he also did sketches in his shows. Telling the time is a good one. And takes of his schooling, with the nuns! He also did a good line in horror stories which finished with a comic twist. The sound affects he created were brilliant. Follow him up. He is a gold mine.
Dave Allen was an alternative comic before there was such a thing, he had some amazing sketches he did as well besides sitting in his chair...drinkin' whyskey and smoking ( something that would never happen today ) Teaching Time to Children is a good one but he did some others...the 2 religious bishop's or cardinals ( I can't remember which ) JOUSTING was one of the first one's I saw with my wife and Scottish Mother In Law comes to mind, his skit on Cassanova was hillarious!!!!
Certain comedians will never be equalled, the late great Dave Allen is one of these. My late farther introduced me to him at a very young age. I should mention that my farther was a Methodist minister.
Dave Allen's show was mainly sketch comedy. The sketches were well-written, funny and , in a lot of cases, beautifully and expensively filmed. But we all remember him at the end of each show, as you see him here - on the high stool, whisky and water to hand, just talking.
Hi guys, you would love Dave Allen teaching his child how to tell the time :D Flying '(aeroplane sketch) And also, going to school, where the Nuns are in charge.. Best wishes from Wales.
Good for you girl. You should always question things that make no sense , and lets face it, not much of the Bible does. If god didn't want us to ask questions he wouldn't have given us curious minds. A closed mind is a closed life. ✌️❤️🇬🇧
Check out Ellie Taylor at the Apollo. She looks like a totally normal, well dressed, serious English woman...and then says the most outrageous and funny things.
Dave Allen was brilliant. His take on the normal things in life was so clever. Pls please can you check out some Mickey Flannagan..his skit on Useless Men and Drunk Women is brilliant 😂
Dave Allen influenced a whole generation of British and American comedians. In a 2017 interview with Howard Stern, Adam Sandler cited Allen as one of his first comedic influences when he saw his act at the Nevele hotel at the age of 10. Other great comedians of the past and present have cited Allen as a big influence on both them and standup comedy as a whole, including Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy, George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Louis CK, Dough Stanhope, Steve Martin, Dave Chappell, Robin Williams, Eddie Izzard, Steven Wright, Lewis Black, Mitch Hedberg, and, of course, Bill Burr.
If you cant ask questions you know something is wrong.
Dave Allen is a gem.
Dave Allen is (or should I say was bless him) so so funny and one of a kind! His skits on religion are priceless!!

2:24 "And he sees that adam was happy..." thats freaking comedy man, what a great line.
Although Dave Allen was not a believer he would always end his shows with the words "May your God go with you".
May I suggest - Dave Allen - "Teaching Your Kid Time" .

At 2:28, the greatest 10-second pause in the history of comedy. 😁
It's great because he respects the intelligence of the audience.
He knows if he pauses just long enough, they'll anticipate the joke and appreciate it even more.
Undisputed!
Dave Allen was one of the best comedians ever. Wonderful stuff.

Dave Allen was 100% Irish .... NOT British!
Dave makes us think as well, I grew up with him here in Australia watching his weekly tv show. HI was a very clever and funny man.
Can't beat an Irish comedian poking the church using logic vs faith. I've enjoyed his humor since the 70s. He does a good bit about his nervous flying thoughts. Good reaction, Thanks.
Dave Allen is brilliant, shopping/ Post office..crying with laughter, when he tells stories about ghosts...classic..enjoy
There's another amazing vid of Dave Allen talking about religion when he was a child. It's priceless!!

Dave Allen is the godfather of British sit down comedy
Dave Allen was raised Irish Catholic. He does a great skit on Religion, and his Religious Jokes are hilarious.
Dave is what we call in Ireland a Seanchai, a person who would tell great stories by the fire whilst having a drink.

It's kind of ridiculous that talking about religion is still controversial in the US. Nobody would care in Europe.
Dave Allen was brilliant. His take on the normal things in life was so clever. Pls please can you check out some Mickey Flannagan..his skit on Useless Men and Drunk Women is brilliant 😂
