My mom was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia when I was 14 around the time A Woman Under the Influence was released. When I saw the film, I wept for days. I felt my mom was validated through Gena's performance, it released such a heavy burden from the stigma my family endured surrounding mental illness. I will never forget how it helped me cope with the isolation and pain i felt as a teenager. Thank you Gena for your bravery and tremendous gift, you are missed...may you rest in eternal peace and love. ❤❤❤
She is a very special woman and a superb actress. How lucky it was that she and John Cassavetes met, they were so compatible - two remarkable people joining forces. He died too young but has left her with so many memories and gifts to treasure. A fascinating and moving interview - thanks for sharing!
This is the best interview I've seen of Gena Rowlands that covers insights into her acting, her collaboration with her husband John Cassavetes, and the nuances of balancing her personal and professional life. Thank you for this.
Met Gena Rowland's in Seattle, with her mother. Gena's mother was so funny and had a smile that was amazing as is Gena Rowland's. Amazing life, career and just great to have a conservation with.
I love you Gena and my favorite movie of all time is “Gloria” love your strength and resiliency in the film. You stood up for what you believed in and Protected and loved the child as if he was your own .
Loved her in GLORIA... Greatest performance I have ever seen on screen. Oscar should have been hers. Along with" Woman Under The Influence "Great person & actress. Love, Erik
Gena Rowlands is such an INCREDIBLE actress; an equal match for John's incredible movies, writing, & acting! I've always loved them. I was living in Los Angeles when "Woman Under The Influence" opened. How Gena Rowlands did not win an Oscar for that performance is beyond comprehension.
I was waiting for her to tear up after reading her comment. I didn't see any tear anywhere. Her right eye appears to be moist but it's just her low eye liner which makes it look as if it's gaping. She simply has shiny eyes. She held strong. Held it together.
Hell Gena! You are so Beautiful, and what an Actress! You have always been one of my favorite actresses! Gloria is my all time favorite movie! I could watch it over and over! Love to you always!! ♥️♥️🌺🎶🎶
Just an unbelievably talented, intelligent, soulful and beautiful woman. I must concur that her meeting John, falling in love and having a brood of wonderful children seems an earthly gift to all at times. Madam Rowlands you are simply timeless quality.
One of my Favorite films of all time is when she stared in Woody Allen's "Another Woman". I can't watch that movie without reciting the lines and shedding tears. Love this woman.
I love Gena Rowlands, she is the most talented human being who ever read a script in a movie. Loved Faces, loved A Woman Under the Influence, she is truly the best. I wish I knew her personally.
(2:37) She means 'Dangerous Corner,' a production of the J.B. Priestley play. (4:37) When she says 'Middle of the Night,' she means 'A Woman Under the Influence.'
Wow...how wonderful she was and is...love this lady...can't believe how beautiful she was and continues to be..one of my few actress role models...would love her for a series I'm presently writing!
She's not 85 here. Late 60s early 70s, but yes, she still looks very nice. She was 85 in 2015, which was nowhere near the year this interview was done, only posted here in 2015.
I watched Gloria last night for the first time.. i woke up the next morning with her in my mind .. wow great movie , great talent , gorgeous lady . 1980 Gena was my age .. 50 years young.
Completely aware what famous and success really is! Humble, a balanced person, that didn’t let Hollywood steal her sanity. Love Gena as a person and as an actress.
Anutosh Ghosh I'd like to recommend to you a Gena Rowlands/Bette Davis film titled "Strangers: The Story Of A Mother & Daughter". It's one of the best TV movies ever made and watchable over & over again. The music, location and acting are all superb.
I love that her home--or at least a portion of it--is filled with Cassavetes-Rowlands memorabilia... What I wouldn't give for the "Love Streams" poster and those close-ups from "Gloria." 😏😁
I Absolutely LOVE Gena Rowlands!! My favorite movie EVER is Gloria!! I was 9/10 when it came out. I am the same age as her youngest child, I was born on July 9th, 1970. I can't believe she is currently 92?!?!?!!!!
at 4:39 she mentions they had the script for Middle Of The Night when she is really talking about A Woman Under The Influence....she did act in Middle of the Night back in the 1950's on Broadway with Edward G Robinson
Great actress sadly died yesterday August 14th 2024 from dementia she was beautiful .I loved her in the film Skelton key and of course A woman under the influence ❤
What a beautiful woman and I'm not just talking about the old photos that they're showing in the video. I'm talking about now. She looks great for any age.
My parents had a mutual love bending to each other's will all the way down the decades of their time line together. Marriage is the good times, the hard times, the bitter with the sweet times. Children live those marriage vows alongside their parents. Love conquers all.🥰
Vow, what a great interview! It is from 2001, I suppose. Gena Rowlands is such a wonderful human being and actress! Thank you, Stina, for sharing this.
I was always a fan, a personal fan of both of them, when I say personal, I mean I think they were a very interesting couple, whom I enjoyed getting to know over the years thru out their careers, and what I saw was what u got, no faking amongst them, they were real people, so they became real to u, not like actors who play parts
I saw a comment by someone on one of her movie trailers that she always had the same hairstyle and always played the same person. I thought how blind can someone be! She is such a great actress, and how anyone misses that is a mystery to me.
I believe Gina was an actress in a class of her own.......She was brilliant in A Woman Under the Influence...and I'm so glad she was given a very deserved award at the Governors awards in 2015. She well deserved it......She was brilliant in Notebook as well as her other films....We won't see the genius of her acting again.......Beautiful woman........
The great always forgotten star of Hollywood. Of course she deserved the Oscar but the establishment wouldn’t give her a chance. I don’t think she and Cassavettes would care much. They were the first independent movie makers

“There’s nothing about each other we can’t understand, if we choose to.” THIS is why I will forever love Gena Rowlands! ❤
RIP Gena Rowlands. My mom and I saw Gloria in the theaters and we've been fans ever since. You will be greatly missed. 🙏🕊🌹😢
She's one of those actresses and people you fell in love with the first time you saw one of her performances. She's real and gritty and beautiful.
Such a wonderful person, beautiful, intelligent and sensitive.
I love all of her and his films.
