  • Among the good, old, traditional recipes of Goa is the Feijoada. Found commonly in regions once colonised by the Portuguese, Feijoada (pronounced 'Feijoad') is a stew of beans with beef and pork. The name feijoada is derived from feijão, which means 'bean' in Portuguese. The Goan Feijoada uses red beans (Pinto beans or kidney beans) with the spicy, flavourful and local Goan sausages. Since the sausages are spiced thoroughly, the recipe itself needs few ingredients rendering it an easy dish! The goodness of beans and meat meet to give a wholesome meal that's mouthwatering!

I have been following your recipe for the goan choriz pulao and the other day, I made a mistake so came back to revisit the recipe. I just love your channel as it reminds me of my childhood. I am mangalorean but grew up in a community that has goans, mangaloreans as well as east Indians. I soaked some kidney beans to make the sweet dish (with coconut and jaggery) and then thought Ill make alle belle instead and now you have posted this- where I get to use the beans and the choriz to make fejuada. This makes me think how each cuisine revolves around a few key ingredients and once they are there, one just needs to mix and match and get creative- like our elders before us! Thank you, Florency, for these short mental and emotional trips to Goa and my childhood memories in Bombay!

    I am a vegan what's an option of a sausage ?

I think vegan steak off late has been around in the market, not quite sure. But I guess it's really expensive comparatively as well as less flavorful, so you'd probably have to use the spices and stuff used to make sausages to get a similar taste to the vegan steak.

      Perhaps soya chunks

    • @LorraineFernandes23

You'd have to pickle the soya chunks with a sausage masala though. In PT, they use a variety of different sausages, so you could be inspired by those spices as well.
