Thanks for the explanation of the parts. Greetings from Germany 🦅
Kent...you are a World Wide national treasure!!.....fantastic!!!! Kit to prevent using the Parts Cannon
Kent, we appreciate the time you take out of your day to inform us here.. I’ve been a follower for a long time and you have helped me do so much on my 85 300sd.
Thank you for being so detailed in your explanations.
Everything you said at the beginning of this video couldn’t be more true. I hope people hear the msg!
This newer bosch system is the reason I got rid of my 1993 190E. I replaced parts left and right, spent so much money and hardly ever got to enjoy driving that thing before more things started failing. Loved the car, one of the most enjoyable cars I've owned, but it gets old quite quickly having to constantly troubleshoot it. I sold it 3 years ago for the same price that I had spent in parts in just the two last years of ownership. Next time I'm owning a 190E (because that will happen, surely) I'm replacing the dated bosch engine with a newer 3.2 v6.
Well after testing my fuel pressure, having correct lower and higher chamber pressure I began throwing parts at the car. My M103 2.6 with manual won't idle at 750rpm checked for vaccum leaks with a smoke machine. It feels like it misfires on cylinders when running low. Adjusting Fuel mixture so it runs more rich about 1k rpm only can idle. I'm lost! Next I will change computers.
Kent's exasperation with 'no-background inquiries' reminds me of working retail years ago in a record store, long before search engines like Soundhound. At least three or four times a week I'd have some variant on this conversation
Me: Hi, welcome to ________________________. Can I help you?
Customer: Hi, do you have that new song?
Me: We probably do, what's it called?
Customer: Oh, I don't know that.
Me: Well, do you know who sings it?
Customer: It's by that girl.
Me: Do you know her name?
Customer: No, but she's on the radio a lot.
Me: Do you know any of the words to the song?
Customer: Not really, but it's a love song
Me:😐
That is great. Sure made me laugh
Very.usefull
Nice pro . Stil work wthe old mercedes 👍👍👍👍
As my Father's Giant Analog Sun Scope said: We Test not Guess......
You are the best in Mercedes classics, ty for all what you do, loves fron turkey
i have w124 from 88. has a w103 engine.
Great video, looking forward to next one about the WUR renovation
Runs fine on the road but idles very bad. I don't mind doing work. but good guidance is nice .
this brings back memories , started my mechanical apprenticeship in very early 90s at an independent merc dealer. spent most of my time in the dedicated tune up bay with a crypton machine , working on W123 , 126 and 124 series cars. k jetronic and some had a stronburg carb.
Thank you Kent. Your videos helped me a lot. With my 124 300ce 1991 M104 the filters from the fuel line into the fuel distributor were clogged after 5 years sitting at the dealership. Costs 10$ at Mercedes and solved the problem.
Thank you for the video. I have an old 300E with the 2.6 and I hate the jetronic system and am trying to get it running smooth as I’m going to drive it regularly until I can save up to completely redo the fuel system with a modern ECU, fuel rail, and manifold as I also plan to turbo the car. But baby steps lol
Hi sir, great account. I have an issue with my ‘87 560SL. The exhaust CO test failed. It runs ok, yet too rich I assume. Can you tell me what causes the co to be very high? Best regards, Abel
I am very impressed by the dedication and passion you have for the Mercedes of the 70-80s, I really like watching your videos, I wish you the best
I laughed out loud when you said you can't just go to harbor freight and buy a fuel tester kit because that's exactly what I did and now I'm looking for the correct fittings.
I have a 1981 Saab 8v turbo c900 with K-jet and it needs a full work through of the fuel side to get it running again.
Great video, looking forward to next one about the WUR renovation, exactly what I plan to do on my 280CE. Thanks Kent! Best from one of your customers from Sweden
I really appreciate these videos and am excited to see the new diagnostic kit and videos come out!
I am learning on a KE injected Lotus esprit and am excited to learn!
Thank you for a interesting dynamic test.

I'm so happy that my Mercedes-Benz w126 has the OM 617. Without a Flux capacitor 😜
Hello we have problem withe the low power from love rpm. Most have spray starter flow.Dont start cold! 380Se 1982..
This is where you need to start: ua-cam.com/video/e9fVOaaFvwc/v-deo.html
I think I experienced a little post traumatic stress from watching this. I went through this whole system on the 300SE I bought from you a few years back. It was a huge learning experience and I've forgotten 60% of what I learned but the car ran so nicely when I was finished that it was worth all the effort. This will be a huge benefit for folks keeping these cars on the road. Thanks for all of your efforts.
Thanks Gary, great to hear from you. Kent
@@Mercedessource you are one intelligent Mechanic that has a pure understanding about Mercedes Benz Hi 👋 from 🇨🇦 #YSW
How can I buy the kit for ke jetronic ? With instructions ,I Searched mercedssources web site and couldn't find it, I appreciate sharing the link,my problem: once duty cycle is adjusted the RPM stay high to 12000 RPM ,car is 190e 4 cylender 2.0 1992
Sorry I do not have a kit for the Ke-Jetronic engines.
Hey , i love your videos and watched may of them, I have a 1991 500 sl and its been seating for a while, it is starting nice and running ok till it gets warmed up, about 75 degrees, I can drive it for about 2 miles, after that it looses power and the only way i got home is driving on idle speed only, I if try to push gas its smocking black smoke ,i replaced fuel pump and fuel accumulator, any suggestions???? thanks WZ
You will need to do a complete fuel flow and fuel system pressure test with the engine cold and then when it starts to act up. If you try to throw parts at it you are just guessing into the wind...
I'll be watching intently as I often fall into the "as long as I'm in here" trap...not a bad thing but I replace any potential wear item -hoses, pumps, seals and if component X is a known high fail rate product and its under the intake manifold, as long as I can replace or repair for under $50 or so, its gotta be replaced. Kind of a Belt AND Suspenders approach
Hi Kent. Love your videos. Where were you when I needed you? I went through everything you mentioned before I ever came across your very informative videos. I bought a 1991 300E with the 3.0L that was sitting in a field and not running. With much frustration and trial and error. She's running and I love this car and the engineering that went into her. Here's the list of materials I've replaced. Fuel pumps, accumulator, fuel filter, CIS, injectors. Idle control and cold start injector. All because it sat for a long time and the 10% ethenol destroyed the fuel system. I only use non-ethenol fuel and love my car.
CIS no more guessing KIT ..cool
im thinking the best way is to pull the intake with the system on it and work on it on the bench.

Hi have a 1986 420sl ticks over ok but cuts out when trying to drive, have changed all filters, could it be carburettor problem?
Probably will require a new flux capacitor.
My fault being a novice 🤣🤣
Where can I get the kit and whats its value in dollars . Thank you
Due to supply problems the kit is not available yet.
hello kent
im having issues with my m102 engine. I changed the fuel filter and fuel pump. the engine starts but i have to press the pedal down for it to run. if i let the pedal go the car shuts down.
it starts but shuts down. it wont idle on its own. when i keep the engine running it runs rough
im kinda frustrated and i think that the accumulator is bad.
The problem Is not the accumulator. Failure shows up with starting problems. I believe you have a fuel pressure / fuel mixture problem. I recommend don't "throw parts at it" until you do a full fuel system pressure test.
@@Mercedessource I found the problem, fuel and spark was ok. It was a leaky hose causing my engine to not run. the part number on the hose was 102 094 25 87, its now fixed and the engine runs perfect. the engine is low km only 180 000.
your videos are the best when it comes to old mercedes content, thanks for taking the time to answer me.
peace from Norway
always great videos 1991 300SL will not start when sits overnight unless add fuel into bowl then have to let idle for a while before i can rev engine all vacuum lines hoses fixed and ovp relay still no luck it did sit a little bit.
Hi Kent I have a 1987 230GE which has the KE-Jetronic. I left it parked up for over a year and when I tried to start it it would start for about 2 seconds and then stop. I have changed the relay but it did not make a difference. I have also checked the fuel pressure at the fuel distributer and it reached 135 psi whilst cranking. Can you suggest what I should do next.
Thanks Kent for all that you do! I am one of the few shops in the North Texas area that will actually service these old Mercedes with jetronic and KE Jetronic and employees Mercedes-Benz factory trained mechanics back from that era. There are so many variables to the system, and so many things that can go wrong. I have watched countless videos on the subject and none of them are all one size fits all unfortunately.
Hi Michael, Thanks for reaching out. You are one of a dying breed for sure. You are so right about all the variables of CIS injection. But there is hope I believe for K-jetronic owners. I just installed the new electronic warm-up regulator from Unwired Tools and it is amazing. Since I have found so many of the K-jet problems lead back to the WUR this unit could be the one thing that keeps more of these cars on the road. Kent
@@Mercedessource I’m gonna have to check that out
Hello Kent if I could ask is there any way you can make a video on Ac recharge or a how to on retro fittings for a 1982 Mercedes Benz 240D 4L my ac works fine but I don’t know anywhere for R-12 and I’ve been getting many recommendations for a conversion. But some say I can do just fine with a recharge? Any thoughts?
really look forward to the video and the kit

Hey there buddy would you happen to know the base turn settings fuel to air on the k jetronic fuel system? And any idea what the allen screw on the back of k jetronic is for?
you are the best Kent. my 300 ce w124 va not running right the owner before have change the fuel pumps and the fuel accumulator. my problem was the mixture on the fuel distributor and car goes finally fine now
The minute I bought a fuel pressure gauge was when I began to sort my KE-Jetronic. Used in conjunction with the factory WIS/EPC, it will end all speculation and you will get to the bottom of it. I suspect that the following installments will chart my journey exactly. Do not let ethanol fuel get anywhere near KE-Jetronic.
Diligently watching as I work on a Kjet Volvo…
I inherited a 300SE from my dad, 120kkms since new.. I need this kit asap :)
This is what i need to do with my 92 190e 2.6 its running rich and tends to stumble on acceleration.
Kent! What a relevant video for me. I have a 280se that has sat for over 10 years. Can you address the problem with k jet air sensor plate not returning to resting position? I can’t figure out how to free it up and get the full “swing” out of the sensor plate … thanks and please keep going with this series!
Nice vid Kent :) I overhauled my whole KE jet on my 190e 16v but it still has cold start issues, even changed the OVP relay.
Thank you very much for your content,I will be resurrecting my M103 after sitting for 3 years.
Where is the factory manuels you mention?
Best man best Chanel for me I like classic Mercedes thanks
My 1972 W108 4.5 starts and runs fine..but after few miles..if I pull over the road the idle is bad and rpm drops..How can start investigating?
Start with education. Get the factory manual. Learn everything you can about the D-Jetronic fuel injection system. It is much different from the system I am talking about in this video. Only after you learn about each component and what it does in the fuel system will you be able to troubleshoot and find the problem. It could be one of 20 different things and is usually a combination of more than one due to the age of the car.
Wow! Very interesting videos! I'm waiting for the next one!!
Kent, I just purchased a 1978 euro spec 280sl, r107. I'm finding your videos really helpful and would love to know if you could give me some ideas what to check for a problem I have noticed.
I smell fuel in the cabin while driving only after I have filled the tank completely. When the gauge reads about half full the problem disappears. No visible leaks noted.
I suspect fuel tank problem, but start by looking under the car and in the engine compartment at ALL rubber fuel hoses. Braided hoses can "weep fuel fumes" - they will look wet. Next check fuel tank vent and vent lines coming off the top of the tank. Check to make sure fuel is not getting into the trunk ( rubber seal around the fuel tank neck). And check that no one has run a sheet metal screen into your fuel tank by mounting something on the forward wall in the trunk. Yes, I have seen this before. ( ie CD player )
I need that kit

Make Mercedes Great Again in '24
Your comment about it being a "Flux capacitor" is very apt as the DeLoreans PRV engine uses the K Jetronic system.
I knew a few viewers would catch that "double" meaning. LOL
Hi Just discovered your channel an I can see it is going to be a great help I am a mechanic with more years experience than I care to remember BUT mainly Jaguars and other British classics, I am now a retired old fart and a "shady Tree" mechanic recently a customer came to me with their 380-SL pride and joy it has a number of issues but the main problem is a starting issue, with this series you have created it will help me diagnose the problem, unless you just want to tell me whats wrong 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Kent fantastic videos you make ..One question my M103 has both the WUR and EHA valve is there a reason for them both to be on my M103 engine
Trevor, I'm guessing you're in the UK so that might be different. I'm in the USA and I have the CIS-E/K-E system on my M103 and what I thought was a WUR down on the engine block (down in the inky darkness) turned out to be a fuel cooler on an air conditioning line.
Good information .. Thanks
Ken, where were you 30 years ago??? The cars are too old now!
Great timing - I've got two non-running W201s! Bloody things.
But remember you have KE-jetronic and it is different and requires different testing procedures.
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Very interesting video series :)
Thank you for sharing your knoledge Kent! I love this videos they are really helpfull
You are so welcome
👍
W126 gang
Good to see you Kent
Good work
Can’t wait!❤
Thanks
I parked my w124 coupe in the garage and haven't used it for about 2 and a half years and it was working and running perfectly. I got it out the other day and now shows no fuel on the dial even though there is definitely fuel in the tank, I have good fuel pressure coming from the main fuel line but it fires up for a second or two then shuts off before not running at all. Just starting to troubleshoot now. Thanks for the video.
Just beginning work on KE-Jetronic systems - hope to have a kit that can help you troubleshoot that problem.
@@Mercedessource thank you , I have subscribed to you're channel. The engineering in these old cars is quite interesting, also my fuel cap has decided to lock itself yesterday and I understand they have vacuum operated locking system?
@@Mercedessource OK so I didn't do anything on this car for a week or so but today I discovered that there is no fuel coming out of the distributor where the injector pipes screw in, very slightly on cylinder 3 there a little fuel coming up. So I guess my next step is to remove and strip down, I wonder what could be blocked?
My DeLorean has all these same parts
The flux capacitor is a must also
I have an 88 300SE. I think that rubber boot on the botton of the system should be replaced along with a set of injectors and seals. although the car runs fine and starts easily with 200k miles its time to do some maintence.
i never checked that fuel screen, idk mine had that?
The only odd failure the car had was the crank position sensor. it would heat soak when the car was shut off at the gas station snd not restart!
spark was scattered and too weak to fire tge engine aparently, of course the car would cool down and run fine again so anywhere i took it couldnt find the problem when it wasnt in a failed state.
The fuel screen is on the bottom of the gas tank, I think it's $32ish US$. Kent sells a neat socket to get up in there and remove it. Check out his video, "Mercedes Fuel Tank Filter Screen Problems and Solutions by Kent Bergsma."
Hey Kent! Off topic, but am wondering if you've ever diagnosed a W123 cruise control. Keep up the great work! I'm about to buy your anodized aluminum polishing kit!
the 10th circle of hell is reserved for bosch engineers/sadists, for devising this dastardly system.
that being said, jetronic's incredibly fascinating and eventually satisfying when it's flawlessly running on all cylinders. probably half the fun of working on old mercs, and a great way to score bargains after mere mortals throw in the towel ☺
