You know what's amazing? The fact that no matter how fast she plays, you still can perfectly understand the melody and see that those aren't just some random cords.
I JUST saw her live, minutes ago. She plays like Harpo Marx as a Muppet. Hands flopping around like a fish, mouth wide open and head bobbing like she told the funniest joke. She has just as much fun as the audience if not more.
What's amazing is you can tell that she is enjoying every second of playing that piece. Not only did she compose something so insanely brilliant, you can tell she does it for the sheer joy of it.
I know how you feel but don't discourage yourself.. I want to keep thinking I'm a pianist my self. The fact is...there are pianists and there are impressive high talented pianist. But still we all have learned our notes, our chords, our harmonies and some staccato and legatto in the middle.Just keep the good work and pride, keep it cool...we all belong in the music family, LOL...
Im not certain if the fact of the difficulty is the most impressive thing about this piece, or if its the fact that she composed it when she was 20 yrs old.
Music transcends the mind and inundates the human experience with profound passions and joy. I've met Hiromi several times and experienced her concerts in NYC & SanFran, and will drive hundreds of miles just to hear her again. She is a miracle beyond description. Thanks God!--and thanks Hiromi. We love you. ( Every time I watch this video I cry. I identify. I'm a pro Christian keyboardist with a heart full of joy who talks to God while I play, and I feel HIM when I see her. Am I the only one?)
Saw her show last night (Feb 19th) in Markham Ontario. I had front row seats and was blown away by not only her virtuosity but by her incredible energy which frankly isn't captured to its fullest in video, you need to feel it not see it. She played Tom and Jerry, Place To Be and Choux a la Creme among others. Seeing her live was an experience I won't soon forget. If you get a chance to see her don't miss it!
THIS VIDEO IS NOT SPED UP! I've seen her play this live and it is as fast as all that. Her movements on stage are quick and cat like. She is a true phenomenon and such a humble person.
It's not just her ability to play this piece that leaves me flabbergasted. However, it is the enormous leven of cynamic control AND the fact that she came up with this that leaves me wondering HOW :D
Hiromi Uehara outshines all the classical composers. Nobody else can present such a broad spectrum of music. The most surprisings things are the phase changes, just as in Quantum Physics. You never know, what comes next but you know the direction of her playing. I just love that rebellious dreaming. Hiromi is a postmodern woman and powerful with a message. Just listen to Mr.CC and you see all the pictures in front of you ! But I know very well, that Hiromi only achieved this level as an artist, because she learned from the great masters ! She reawakens them again with new fire and a new spirit ! CONGRATULATION !!!
We all stand on the shoulders of our predecessors, outshining the classical composers is simply a part of progressing forward, but I don’t think it’s necessary to try and compare her to them. Without those great historical composers we wouldn’t be where we are now, always, hopefully, furthering music.
It is of course a showpiece but don't be fooled by the fact that she is playing jazz with "room" for improvising, she's a MONSTER classical pianist & that is her base. She went to jazz as there is more freedom of expression/room to breathe your own self into things. She can play all the difficult Chopin & Listz & Rachmaninoff etudes etc. like they're chopsticks. Don't be fooled, this woman is the best of the best, a talent rarely seen in 100 years. I saw her 'live'. Incredibly emotional player.
So amazing…she can take the music anywhere she wants and never gets lost along the way. Musical genius personified, and a wonderful, beautiful, humble and down to earth person on top of that. So glad she’s here producing this brilliant music for us all to enjoy!! ❤
What a joy to watch! Someone who plays music so well and gets such a thrill while playing it. So often the virtuoso performers look as if they are so bored or in dreadful pain, and this lady just thrills!
