I signed up for the 14 day course and I love it so far. Would like to see a bit more on the hohom m6 gimbal and a section on growing on TikTok as I’m interested in growing dog gear and training channel
Great video. Would have liked to see discussion around gymbals like the DJI OM-5 and DJ OM-6 though as these try and force you down the DJI MImo app path, which you haven't covered. I've been using Filmic Pro Legacy (refuesd to pay for the switch to the monthly subscription model) and it supports the OM-5 although it took them a year to cover it and it looked like the OM-6 was going to take even longer. I like the look of BlackMagic but I have an iPhone Pro 13 not the 15 and I'm guessing it won't support th OM-5 gymbal either so guess I just have to stick with the older apps I have?
Cool, thanks for this! What if one wants to adjust the input volume? I may be buying some (inexpensive) wireless lav mics. But if the talent is yelling, for instance, the audio would distort.
You may not have tried the Iphone 16 pro max yet as I know it is not officially released, but I was wondering what your thoughts are on a Gimbal for it. I have heard you say that filming in the middle of the day is terrible light and most of my projects take place outside, or in my workshop which is at least undercover, but outside …so I may be committing a UA-cam crime (us Australians like sunset and sundown…similar to the kangaroos you can accidentally hit on country roads at those exact times of day). So I won’t be having a studio, except for sometimes feeling in my converted garage out the back. I am a complete novice and did get the DJI Osmo Mobile 6, but it really does not love my Iphone 15 Pro Max and it took about 45 minutes to seat the Magnetic Mobile Phone Clamp on first try, with and without the cover. Admittedly, I had never even owned a selfie stick before and only learnt what a GImbal was, but I'm really good with tools, putting things together (yes, even Ikea furniture) so it was really annoying. Would love your thoughts. Not sure if you might cover it in your course. I'm yet to start!!! regards Victoria
Thank you for this updated video, Anthony. I think I'd like to try the BlackMagic app, but I admit it looks a bit intimidating. Then again, so did DaVinci Resolve until I tried it out. :)
For me the big advantage of Final Cut Camera is the ability to use an iPad as a monitor and control the camera. Does Blackmagic Camera have anything similar?
Hi, anyone has any clue on how to resolve this issue: recording video in different formats in blackmagic app on my iphone 15 pro max, during recording timeline is running and all, but when checking the video in media or importing it on computer, it cannot play, it's on 00:00, as a still image?
Great overview of the camera apps with details about their differences. It's been difficult to distill with a comparison like this. I'd love to know a bit more about the photo features of the Moment app. For example, does it allow bracketing that people might use when doing Real Estate photos? Regarding Final Cut Camera is there any app on the iPad Pro that will allow you to just use it as a camera monitor? I don't want to subscribe to FCP iPad just for that as I don't anticipate the need for Multicam and don't edit on my iPad (circa 2018 no less so FCP isn't viable)?
Great questions! I will definitely look more into the photo modes. You should be able to screencast the iphone screen to an ipad without needing an app if all you want to do is monitor the screen
A quick suggestion for a new video >Make a review on the Black magic camera app for android 😅 By the way, I love your videos Educational and learned a lot A lot about filmmaking
Also, who in the world uses a green or magenta filter over their videos? That is not common at all. Most people who use these apps don’t use filters at all. They shoot in apple pro-res log
No one uses a filter that purposely does that, low quality filters like ND or Polarizers cast green or magenta tints due to the low quality glass. It’s not desired so the tint control helps.
@@MrPaulXavier that’s why you buy quality glass. No way you can expect great results out of a 20 dollar filter. Phones especially need good glass for their filters or not only will they have color casts but they will have bad flaring and it will make the image very soft
@@MrPaulXavier but I agree, most people will buy cheap filters if they buy them at all for their phones. I shoot on an a7iv so I already know the need for quality glass on your filters
Haha I know it’s important to buy good filters. This is for the people who didn’t and now need help fixing it. Shooting in log also doesn’t solve the exposure issue that comes from filming outdoors. An ND filter would still be necessary no matter what picture profile.
@@MrPaulXavier agreed. Heard the word filter and color casts didn’t even register when I commented. I was thinking like built in preset filters. It was late. My brain wasn’t working properly lol That’s my mistake
Pro camera by Moment until now (9/1/2024) has no feature to save Proreslog format to an external SSD.. I only learned this after I bought the full dmn package.. wanted to refund this blasted app.
@@MrPaulXavier awesomeness, yeah it has a lot of the same features Blackmagic has. I’m still trying it out! I love Blackmagic but I had the problem with the exclamation point kept coming on while recording. Do you anything to solve it?
Maybe you have a different phone? Sometimes it changes from phone to phone. Also they just came out with an update not sure if you've checked on that yet
Yeah I realize some people value that but I HIGHLY recommend instead if starting and stopping recording and then editing your clips together rather than pausing and playing. It will make your videos much higher quality through trimming and only using the best parts of the clips. Very few pro content creators use a pause feature while recording
@@MrPaulXavier lol I use it all the time and so does everyone I personally know that creates content for YT with a phone :D It saves so much time in post. I would switch to Iphone but the workflow is absolute garbage on Iphone
You really need zoom more than anything else. So a phone with a 5x lens or a third party zoom lens would be best. But you’ll also want a tripod to keep it steady. The app really won’t make a difference
You don't actually tell us that the Final Cut isn't actually free, to link to iPad you need to subscribe, you can't do anything at all without paying £50 a year... yes the iPhone app is pretty good, but you can't link without iPad 😳
@@MrPaulXavier yes you did, but i didn't realise that you couldn't use any function on the iPad without paying, I thought it was just paying for the editing, my mistake obviously
For me Black Magic is the most professional version for IPhone.
Agreed

Moment Procam for me, having a log profile.

Perfect video, helpful and informative and just what I needed Q. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
What font you use for auto caption please? Which ones are good
What about Filmic Pro? I’ve been using that but open to switching.

You got it! Yeah things definitely look intimidating at the start but in my eyes if you figured out DaVinci you will crush blackmagic camera.
Thank you. Just downloaded Blackmagic!
Hooked in every possible way. I guess you know by now. You are a legend!
For me the big advantage of Final Cut Camera is the ability to use an iPad as a monitor and control the camera. Does Blackmagic Camera have anything similar?
You can mirror the screen for monitoring purposes but unfortunately there is no ability to actually change the controls from what I can tell

Does beast cam support a log profile on iphone 12

I’m not a pro, but Cinema P3 Pro Camera seems awesome to me.
I was looking last night for a good video comparison for FCC and BM, and then this shows up this morning

I'll use the Final Cut Camera app once they add cinematic mode.

Knowing there probably isn’t a perfect answer - What would be the “best” video app to film a high school soccer game from 20 or 30 yards away?
You really need zoom more than anything else. So a phone with a 5x lens or a third party zoom lens would be best. But you’ll also want a tripod to keep it steady. The app really won’t make a difference
Ok great! And thank you so much for the reply.
So I am new to most of this - what other settings for an hour plus long video? 4K, HEVC, and all that other stuff. 😂
We’ve got videos for that on our channel! Or even better in our online course.
lets goooooooo
it was an iphone xs, not an iphone 11📲
Cool
Thank you :)
I hope apple could do more in this app😅
I think KINO from the Halide folks deserves to be in this conversation.
I'm guessing you didn't watch the video, we have a whole section on kino!
@@MrPaulXavier LOL... Apologies, the headline misled me into thinking it was a 2 app shootout. Will take a look. Thx.
All good! I couldn’t fit all of the app names in the headline haha
Always try to watch a video before commenting. That goes for any video. 🫡
nice veidschjo
So we don’t need a camera, we can just use black magic app on our phones?
So none of these apps pause? 😢
Rather than pausing you want to start and stop recording and then edit the clips together. It will make your videos much more professional!
