I remember back in the early 80's going to Redskins games walking thru the pedestrian tunnels hearing the young kids putting down Go Go beats on whatever they had.
5 gallon bucket, pots, pans etc. I play the drums and truly got it. I never passed by without dropping a few bucks.
To those kids I say " Thank You ", I hope your still kicking it out with real instruments today.
I've been a fan of Godfather Brown and Go Go Music and I'm as white as they come.

Coming from Baltimore, I'm just beginning to realize how much music came out of DC and the surrounding areas even before Go-go. To name a few, I didn't know that Marvin Gaye, Van McCoy, Billy Stewart, Duke Ellington and The Moments were all from DC. When we consider all of the acts that come from the surrounding areas in Maryland and Virginia, and then all of the acts that took up residence in DC like Toni Braxton and Roberta Flack respectively, we're talking an incredibly rich music environment. Please keep in mind, for the sake of space and proper forum, I haven't given a full list here. There's much, much, more and I still haven't gotten to Go-go yet!
In 2000, I was in high school and listening to 93.9 or 97.5 Kiss FM, listening to Go-Go, listening to Wale, and those go-go remix of early 2000s-mid 2010s RnB top songs...that remix of the song Beautiful by Pharell ft Snoop Dogg, so good!
Junk is my favorite after Chuck, can't believe they weren't mentioned. But nonetheless EU RE, NE BYB and others represented. They're right GoGo to DC is like reggae to JA. I love them both and can switch from one to the other and still hold a vibe... Why.... It's the drum and base, it speaks to the inner man ❤️💛💚
I agree Junkyard Band should have gotten some love
Sugar Bear should revisit that rock band. If we have trafunGo there is no reason we can not have Go-Rock or Rock-Go. The world is ready.
