I love go,go CHUCK BROWN for ever ! new Orleans in here YES YES YES !
The people who hit the thumbs down have NO soul. I'm from NJ but I have alot of family from DC and all over the DMV. Alot of us also went to HBCUs in the DMV. I attended Hampton University. Go go music is everything. I learned to beat my feet and all from my band mates out of DC. Anything with funk, house, club, or go go beats is a vibe for me. RIP Chuck 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣🗣
I AM, FROM A NEIGHBORHOODING CITY of HAMPTON...I ATTEND COLLEGE an HBCU IN GREENSBORO, NC...

Hello all you Go-Go lovers I'm currently taking a trip down memory lane and loving it. Born in London to Jamaican parents, landed in DC 1982 went to all the local go-go's ( The Black Hole on Georgia Avenue NW, The Armoury on Friday nights, Anacostia Park SE, oh the memories make me feel like I wanna weep, keep listening my global friends!
What a great Testimony! Thank you for reminiscing.
This is the morning of the July The 4Th about to get in, Be as safe as you can and enjoy. 2021. Halla
Got a little chuck playing to start this 4th off, be safe and enjoy your day.
NC birthed him and DC raised a legend! Thank you DMV from 919 RALEIGH!!! #GOGO4LIFE
Half of DC's lineage come from North Carolina. The Great Migration brought our families here.
Still a hit in June 2024!!!
This was mine and my husband's first dance at our wedding reception 10 years ago. He was born and raised in DC and I was born and raised in PG County so we thought it was only right. :)
🙌🏿💪🏿
Me too (SE Washington DC … Then, PG County … DMV kid)
Chuck Brown & others go-go artists is on my play list when I am traveling from New York into the DMV
I am from NYC and the very first time I ever heard "go-go" was in 1977 while away at Johnson C.Smith University in Charlotte, NC. The woman who I eventually married and began a family with is from SE Washington, D.C. She was a class behind me when she landed on the yard and I scooped RIGHT AWAY! But it was HER who turned me on to "go-go". Completely blew my mind; I had never heard anything like those beats in my life! I was like, "WTF? What is THIS?" I couldn't stop my body from rocking! Mad props to the indigenous musicians of D.C who truly came with an original style ALL THEIR OWN! Chuck wasn't the only band, either --- there were others. At points during the song, Chuck would turn them drummers loose solo and they would have the crowd in a FRENZY!
This genre is woefully unknown outside of the USA, and it boggles the mind. I don't understand

It had a small moment of nationwide and world exposure in the early to mid-80's (Spike Lee having E.U. perform in his film School Daze for example) but guess what also did, Hip-Hop. That's my explanation.
Came to Howard Univ. in DC from Kansas City in '75 and go-go was takin off strong, the streets rockin whereever you went...
EU, TROBLE FUNK,RARE ESSENCE, JUNKYARD,we know go go. Started in the DMV.
I'm a white guy that discovered Go Go when I was stationed in the DC area in 1985. Got hooked immediately. Chuck Brown is buried in Trinity Memorial Gardens in Waldorf, MD, where I used to live when stationed there.

One time I picked my mom up to take her to a Sade concert and tried to turn her on to this. Of course she loved it, but I was surprised when she said "it's nothing but old cabaret music". I was shocked. Anyway, always loved Chuck in Philly.
Love me some Chuck Brown. Rest In Heaven my man.....Rest In Heaven.
A lot of people can give themselves nicknames and titles but you can't give yourself The Godfather. That has to be earned and be respected and accepted by all. No disputes. The very thought of you or the sound of your voice has to invoke that in peoples' minds. Chuck Brown has checked all of those boxes. When it comes to Go-Go he truly is the GOAT!
Chuck Brown was a Culture. This song bring back so many great memories from back in the day and tell the story of the old school Washingtonian RIP Chuck
My old man used to listen to Chuck Brown. I was shocked to hear that they were school buddies. My old man and Chuck Brown were school buddies? I couldn't believe it. Rest in peace Dad and Mr. Chuck Brown. God bless. 🙏
Just my opinion, but, I believe this is the G. O. A. T. Go go song. So incredibly outstanding!

R.I.P. to the Godfather of Go Go!! Youngstown, OH in the house!! Not many Ohio cities rocked Go Go like Youngstown!! Takes me back to the '80's when life was good!!
Y-Town .... man I had a friend W. Laclede who with his friends played this style LIVE in his basement about every night. MAN I miss the times. Mid 70s though. Bet you knew him. I often wonder to this day if Chuck may have been one of them. Best music I ever had the experience to be turned on to. I am from Boardman no less hahaha
Born in Hyattsville, Md. in 1967. Left PG county, Md. in 1987. Saw so many shows with Chuck, Rare Essence, EU, and the whole go-go vibe. I took this sound with me everywhere I lived. Tried to turn on as many people as possible to this groove. Saw a lot of smiles for my efforts.
I was born in d.c but I moved away when I was about 4, we still visit the city every year. But I still miss the cities vibes and I miss the city so much so I play this to be reminded of that amazing city.
This song takes me back to growing up in DC in the 80s. Summertime, cookouts, driving through Haines Point. So many memories.
OMG … Me too … Haines Point in the 80s When I first was able to dive off high dive to Life Guard passed me to swim alone in deep end as a young teen & my twin 🎉

This was definitely the good ole days Chuck Brown & Chocolate City
YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT.......................
Always a big fan of Chuck Brown
This is the single best live performance ever. I can't think of another song where the band sounds like they're having this good of a time. Where the audience is READY for participation. The bass player is just knocking this shit out of the park every groove and the brass section is partying. I hear this sober, I feel happy. I hear this drunk on wine, I feel good. I never hear this come on and think "I'm feeling something different today." Thank you, Chuck Brown.
I would have to totally agree with you! I got into go-go in the 80's and every time I come back to this joint, its like the first time I heard it and it makes me feel the exact same way every time Timeless!
We miss him so much I wish I was old enough to party with him when he was in his prime lol I love the flow of gogo but I’m from bmore house music club music I love it alllllll I can dance too 🎉
OMG! This reminds me so much of college & the Quiet Storm days!! 💘

I'm a southern woman and I love Chuck Brown and Go Go music!❤
This cut is my weekly staple listening. DC girl from way back! Go-Go and Hip-Hop forever!
Nobody like Chuck Brown. My mother told me he never forgot anyone's name.
Iam from NY and I am a original HIP HOP HEAD from day one in the mid 70s
DJ COOL HERC use to to rock this joint called Busting lose we in NY didn't really know about GO GO but we knew that joint n loved it,
but because HERC used to be so damn secretive about his music
he would put tape over the title and artists names on the Lps so you wouldn't know who, then in 2001 my employer transferred me to D.C and I seen CHUCK for the first time that night he performed Bustin Lose and I damn near S#$T my pants yes HIP HOP HEADS all bow down CHUCK from D.C was rocking in NY with that GO GO swing from the beginnings of
HIP HOP, " NUFF RESPECT "
Well if that siced you then got another for you. Remember who sampled this?

I know this, we was swinging to Bustin' Loose by Chuck Brown. Go-go music has that fun aspect of it.

Couln't sit still; didn't even try. Takes me back to DC times. This is forever music.
Go Go was big in hiphop in the 80s, precussions are so powerful, I did not know about Go go unitl 1992 when I was across the street in a high school field that was located in front of Howard U by a McDonalds and I was hit in the soul with the funk grooves from GoGo, growing up in my community in JamaicaQueens precussions were every where in my home and Djs surrounded our blocks with so much different sounds .. Go Go was there but when I actually saw it was amazed.. love our culture .. HipHop brings it all together but we must know all the roots.. peace love and light .. thank you for posting
Did he really do:
-Moody's Mood for Love -Woody Woodpecker song -Undecided -
In the same medley? Gifted!!!
I went to Howard U in the late 80s/early 90s! If you weren't from the DMV, you'd try to hate on Go-Go but Chuck would win you over. Too FUNKY!
there's nothing like Go-Go. This is getting me through a busy Friday work day.
Washington D.C. GoGo is FIRE!!!
Was down in VA and seen it live. Chuck Brown, Atlantic Star, Levert. Crazy. Got in trouble with my partner Edwards's from South East for seeking off the base at FT LEE, to see that at Virginia State University in 1989. Feels good. listening to the real.
Just wanna cry thinking about all my fun college days when we partied & were carefree without a ton of responsibilities!! 💘 🎶 😍 💃 🎸 😊

I landed in DC at Howard University in 1975 just when go go was takin off nationwide...there was a welcome party in a parking lot on Georgia Avenue across from campus and they played a lot of go go, people from the neighborhood and Howard students jammin the night away, one of the best parties I can remember...

Cabala Condor u're the reason gullable people on social media are misled. I REALLY knew Chuck & his fam. His daughter used to babysit me, we all lived on *THE SAME STREET* , and me & my homies *truly* talked to his limo drivers.
And the *nearest* schools were John Bayne & Walker Mill. But since u *claim* he lived in *ur* hood, let me ask you something. What was his son's name & what did he like to do in *ur* hood? 🤔
performing with another artist, I once found myself randomly next to chuck brown on a cruise ship... and he was, in that context, such a quiet guy, just not interested in bothering anyone, and I looked over and realized it was him and I couldn't believe it. No security detail, no handlers, just him. a legend who created an entire genre of music. And there he was. He passed away shortly after that but I was always glad I had a brief physical proximity to him.
