Been there. Done that. Now on my rim, the TL tire was such a tight fit that it was impossible to seat it with a mini pump. So I had to ride home with an annoyingly wobbly tire. Other than on gravel, on road bikes, I'm back on clinchers with latex tubes. Too much hassle for a problem I never had in the first place.
Nightmare... Glad you got back ok. Non related, having used butyl tubes, then tubeless and now TPU tubes I find TPU tubes is the way forward for me on a road bike.
The problem with patching in this way is that a puncture patch is designed to be stretchy and as such will bulge out thru the hole and probably burst. I carry a patch made from overlaying 3 layers of duct tape, which is linen reinforced. I stick this on a piece of polythene so that I can peel it off when needed. Works a treat and can actually work as a permanent fix, though I usually make the repair permanent later using a rubber dinghy patch. I have also heard of folks using one of the new plastic 5 pound notes folded with some success.
Yeah, no. That is a patch for an inner tube. You should use a tire boot, piece of tyvek, duct tape, or a dollar bill to prevent the tube from blowing out through the sidewall.
Lezyme has a plastic insert for sidewall damage like this though - even stronger than just a patch Why tubeless you think you need a co2 and tube anyway 😅
You need a boot, though I’m not sure it will stick if the inside is covered in sealant. For that matter, how did the patch work? You can fold up a dollar bill to line the tire around the patch. Though I run tubes, I also carry some glasses wipes and duck tape. You never know…..
I had something similar happen and the tire deflated in 2 or 3 seconds. Thankfully i was on a flat! Can you imagine what would happen going downhill? I've stopped riding tubeless after that.
No. Fixing a tyre needs a plug rather than a patch. It’s like a sticky rubber slug you push into a whole in the tyre using a tool that looks a bit like a needle.
So that sharp piece gets caught between the rim and the tyre sidewall? Is it hookless? You say a tiny little bit of sharp rock but you show what looks like a pebble. It’s actually huge to be honest 😅
A bit of old inner tube or tyre is better. Leave sealant in. Bung tube in. No need to take tyre off. Happened to me last week. 3 inch nail straight through the tyre. In one side out the other. Y
@@Mapdec in my case I actually had a sharp knife for my tubeless repair kit and cut a 2 inch section off a club mates inner tube as I wasn't happy with the repair patch bulging. Now I carry a 2 inch section of inner tube in my lightweight kit bag. Less than 1 gram.
Not a fan of Tubeless at all . Purchased the last set of Roval Rapide CLX 32 disk brakes wheelset in the country on Thursday. Instead of the Tubeless Price of $4400 aud I picked these up 4 $3300 brand new . And the week b4 l picked up a brand new set of Roval CLX 40 disk brakes Tubular Wheelset in Australia 🇦🇺. Also brand new 4 $2400 aud . So now l own 2 sets of each .

Specialized/ Roval have stuffed up big time ⏲️ No more than 110 psi in a Tubeless
But he’s probably had a bunch of other punctures prior to this one and not known about it as the sealant did it’s job. Meanwhile you’ll be chucking your 5th tube in it
@@R8JimBob88 lol professional cyclists dont do that much riding as i do ,rarely getting punctures, good tyres, maximum psi and dont ride hugging the curb thats where all the glass is sitting
Happens to us all at least sunny and not chucking it down + hurricane level winds. Loved the gratuitous laughter ……..video gold 🤣

I always carry some toothpaste tube (empty of course) has helped get people home in the past. Use it as a tyre boot and it is free 😊
That's a good idea
Had that once, nothing to patch so used a green gum leaf....this is Australia
I've used an energy gel wrapper as an emergency tyre boot in the past.
Great hack 👍

Mtb tyres stop this problem 💀💀

Aye. It works, it’s light.

Why tubeless you think you need a co2 and tube anyway 😅
You need a tire boot. Park tool sells them. You can also use a part of a gel wrapper
Tyre boots are great for MTB
those tyre boots don't stick ive tried them

Got me home just fine. A boot works really well on MTB.
I had something similar happen and the tire deflated in 2 or 3 seconds. Thankfully i was on a flat! Can you imagine what would happen going downhill? I've stopped riding tubeless after that.
I think it’s actulley safe. You blow out 60psi rather than 100psi. This was a shock but totally manageable
Are tyre and tube patch kits the same?
No. Fixing a tyre needs a plug rather than a patch. It’s like a sticky rubber slug you push into a whole in the tyre using a tool that looks a bit like a needle.

Funny. In my light weight kit I don’t pack a bit of old tyre. Bad luck about the tyre

This is why I don’t ride tubules. Race level tires don’t hold up. And why is she laughing? It was a successful fix.
Probably at me getting spurted in the face for a change 😂

Depends what you want I guess. Tubeless works well for me. Tubs would be too much of a pain. I don’t have a team car following me around
